Pendragon Rising

Seize the throne in the age of King Arthur! Lead an army of Britons against the darkest of enemies in this epic interactive medieval fantasy novel.
"Pendragon Rising" is a thrilling 112,000-word interactive novel by Ian Thomas, where your choices control the story. It's entirely text-based--without graphics or sound effects--and fueled by the vast, unstoppable power of your imagination.

As the bastard offspring of the aging ruler Pendragon, you’ll fight to save Britain from a demon-tainted enemy and claim the crown you deserve. Command an army as Arthur, brave son of Uther, or Arta, fearless daughter of Utta.

Charge heroically to the front of battle, or use tricks to defeat your foes. Dally with your childhood companion, or seek romance elsewhere. Hold the line with your closest friends against foreign invaders and their sinister magics. Find friendship, forge alliances, uncover plots, and triumph over creatures of nightmare to win a future for your people and your kingdom.

Will you be mercenary or merciful? Seductive or solitary? Most importantly, can you lead your allies to drive back the darkness, and seize your place as Pendragon of Britain?

Easily one of the best. The stat dynamic is more complex and ever evolving, and dialogue options arent based purely upon a stat check. You have to use actual logic at times instead if just playing to your stats. Story is fantastic, and the setting is great. Also, there are multiple endings based upon your choices. You arent pigeon-holed early.

Fix the damn stats. How do I go from 86 to 52 within two choices for combat.

fun at first but about half way through i just stopped caring about everyone in the story. The ending also wasn't very satisfying, just kinda felt just slapped on.

A great game/novella, well written, with well-rounded characters and meaningful choices. I highly recommend it.

I actually purchased this. The demo is too short to really appreciate this game. You are Arthur, a young man coming back from Rome: which is a nice twist on a very familiar legend. It is difficult to get a perfect ending in this, it will most likely require multiple playthroughs. The stats can be confusing, specifically knowing what choices effect what stats. Aside from it being hard to get the best ending, the story and characters are good. Excellent game with good replayability.

Finished it, and kinda liked it. Except the end where there is this A Beginning in Bold letter. I just hate cliffhangers, there should be a second book but since this is somewhat tied in the legend of Arthur I guess it is but a suggestion, and only that. But I liked it though which is why it has 5 stars. But I kinda feel that in certain chances I was not given any choice, and there are also some that I notice doesn't do much aside from the change happening in the next chapter, but as for the rest what is bound to happen will happen.

Good story and narrative. Characters are believable if a little too predictable. Not a true CYOA as the story progresses along regardless of your decision, so you're carried by the story and not the other way. Length between decision points is well placed. A little better resolution about romance or options with NPCs would improve things. Good research about Celtic lore overshadowed the misplaced characters from more traditional King Arthur tales.

Being based on Arthurian mythology, steeped in the atmosphere of medieval England with an encroaching hoard, this CoG had all the ingredients for a fine dish of a game. Until the chef sneezed in the plot and blew away half the plate. This CoG is stunted, shallow and has infuriating hints at greater depths that never surface. The game has no conclusion and hobbles across the minimum line required to charge money on the play store. The competent writing is squandered on a title that feels limp and gutted.

Story leans heavily on Arthurian legend which can be had at Half Price Books for a few dollars. If this story had to stand on its own, it would fail miserably. It has plenty of past legend, books, and movies to lean on though as it spins around the legend offering a scant amount of choices. Not the best storytelling by Choice of Games.

This game was amazing and I found myself playing through it again and again just to see what would happen rather than playing it once as I normally do, it intrigued me to know what other outcomes could have been. I don't regret paying for this at all, totally worth it.

Was in the app for not even a minute. I refuse to play a game that I need to pay for halfway through. I hate to be so destructive and I'm sorry. I'm sure your story was great and worth the price but couldn't you get money through ads? Couldn't you have an ad pop up after every page because I would rather have that than needing to pay a ridiculous price partway into the book. Again, I'm sorry and I'm sure you deserve the money but I personally believe you should get it through other means.

If you had made the whole story free of charge. You'd make more money from ads, because these could give the big names like Mobile Strike a run for their money

It's pretty frustrating to see people complaining about having to pay, saying that they could get the money by inserting ads after every page or something. You guys have no concept of what it means not just to develop an app, but to actually write an entire novella, do you? Not to mention, do you understand what it means to have an ad play after EVERY page? It would take like 3x as much time to read the story, and that would be the case for EVERY read through. I'd rather pay the $4, which keeps the company running and pays the authors what they're due for their time and hard work. If you want something free, go read WattPad or something.

I absolutely LOVE it! One of the stories I've gotten the most attached with. Although I'd have preferred a more elaborate resolution. I never wanted the story to end. And if it must, I'd wanted a more thought-out, satisfying end to the storyline. Despite this, I'd be super psyched for a book 2! An ending like this desperately calls for a sequel.

I love it! I thought it was great! It had me thinking, it really did! I just wished I could have gotten with Marc! 😔 Emrys, was actually a considerate candidate. Though because of relations, sadly it couldn't be. I wouldn't mind Cai, either. They don't have an actual relation to each other. PLEASE add an option to date other characters! I loved Marc's character please bring him back or add more dialogue and scenes for him! ❤❤❤ Also, I beg of you, write a sequel to this story. It is amazing, really!

The choices feel like they all lead to the same conclusion. There's no way to know what the game wants from you at any given time. Very frustrating and not worth your time or money when there are better games of this genre

Well I think it's a great game but there's to much dialogue I do like that it helps the story but it's just that it gets old fast
