Would give it zero stars if I could. Can't even download and open today's edition on a relatively new Galaxy Tab 8 with a high speed data connection and no other devices currently using the network. It's been "downloading" for the last 3 hours. It's ridiculous how unresponsive the app has become. You would think that with P-G becoming practically all-digital, that there would be a better focus on ensuring the apps works. You'd be wrong.

The app stops working and a phone call to The P-G reveals that the geniuses at the Post-gazette changed the software without notifying customers that the app should be uninstalled and reinstalled. Why can't the P-G notify customers via email that a reinstall is required? Also, too many times the bottom line of text at the bottom of a column is missing. A big plus is the feature that allows one to tap an article and see it in its entirety without the need to flip pages to read the continuation.

No option to download on my Kindle. Something about Google apps and Amazon not permitted. Reading on my cell is not easy. They also removed the text enlargement feature, so now I have to move text back and forth to read, PIA. Their ads about readers not going back to print, pure BS, We have no choice. Why is this app not available on my computer? At least then I could print it out. You have some work to do, Post-Gazette, until this app runs smoothly on every device. Given a choice, I would choose print over device any day.

With a little work this app could be so much easier to use. When viewing articles in text mode on my phone, I need to zoom in to make them legible but when I do the text does not wrap. This forces me to rotate my screen but when I do, it reverts back to display mode and I have to find the article again. Very unintuitive and frustrating!

This apps is extremely annoying. It keeps saying images are still downloading and I have to go through and hit okay for about 4 months of newspapers to get it to stop. Also once you click on the article the font is so small you can't even read it. You would think they'd have an option to make it more like book size but no. I hope they try to improve the app since they're getting rid of the print version. I see several reviews that have the same issue so it's not just me.

I don't love this app. 1. can't read full headline. 2. when headline clicked on to open, phone better be in landscape mode, if not, and you turn it, it will revert back to newspaper view. 3. obituary listing chops off many alphabetically listed names. Sometimes you can get the list to go full screen, but not often. 4. Sports page 1 often has only headlines, no columns. 5. Unlike most online periodical apps, there is no text mode. I still read it despite problems and PG leaning further far right.

Although I prefer the paper copy, when the app functions properly, it is an adequate substitute, and, indeed, it is nice to have the "paper" handy on my smartphone when travelling. However, I do not appreciate the frequency at which I am asked to sign in with my email and password before being allowed to access my daily copy. Nor do I enjoy the times, such as this morning, when the issue downloads without pictures or graphics, presenting blank areas scattered amongst the articles. Thank you.

Buggy, Randomly restarts and goes to a different section. Each time you opn a link, to read an article you have to reset the text size unless you want it very small. Why doesn't it stay the same font as selected? Also randomly has eeeeeeeeeees in diferent places. To read an entire article, you must click on a link at the top of the article. The font on the links are much bigger that the body of the article which sometimes leads to parts getting cut off, resulting in some hilarious by-lines.

The processfor getting new editions into the app is pretty bad; not smooth at all. Is certainly not automatic, and usually crashes. It can take lots of trying "things" till the issue comes in. Sometimes doesnt bring in the pictures. Too often needs verify credentials. Once it finally downloads the day`s edition, it is fine for reading the paper. (1 star given for that reason, otherwise it deserves 0 stars). But to get to the reading point, the app is an awful, frustrating, terrible mess.

I detest having to read my newspaper on line, wrestling with the app every morning trying to get to the current days paper, and having to "tap" on every article in order to get the print big enough to read. There are also instances where the last line or 3 is cut off a shorter news item when that section does not have its headline "underlined" so that it can be read separately. I WANT MY NEWSPAPER IN MY HANDS ON PAPER.

I have to uninstall then reinstall this app almost once a week on my tablet to get it to work now. I get a message that the app has stopped. It worked fine for several months, but this problem just started about a month ago. If I don't have the app, I can't read the newspaper on the days it doesn't publish a paper copy. I hope this corrected soon or you will loose me as a customer.

Dislike app. Not user friendly. Lengthy process to download. Not easy to read articles. I haven't had access of PGe for almost 2 weeks. I have called their support several times now, get assured someone will get it fixed but never hear back from anyone. I have reinstalled the app but still am unable to get into it. Can't even change the password. Horrible app.

The best app for reading the Pittsburgh Post Gazette in traditional newspaper format. Pros: see one page at a time in portrait, zoom by reverse pinch, tap to have the article full screen, jump to new section. Cons: video links aren't working, when downloading a new edition asks if you want to read every other edition you already have so keep the old ones deleted

I do enjoy the app, but am frustrated that portions of articles are sometimes missing, and that final sentence or two of articles are cut off...I`m updating my earlier review as of 9/06/2019 because I'm now experiencing what others have reported - the app crashes when I try to open it (android operating system), and the only way to fix it is to uninstall and reinstall the app. The Google Play Store notes that the PGe app may "not be optimized" for my tablet!

I love reading the PG online. However, the latest download has issues related to how the articles appear on the screen. I no longer have the "larger text, smaller text and close tabs at the bottom of the article. As a result, the text is all one size, very small and difficult to read. Tell me how to get back to the original format and you will definitely get my "5 stars".

too frequent requests to sign in. Sept 29 the paper would not finish downloading eve after uninstalling the app, restarting the tablet and reinstalling the pGe app. How am to read the news 4 days a week? Sad Update on Nov 9, 2019 It has improved with some quirks downloading and opening the day you want to read but you will get there. Also some articles are missing the bottom line especially when the article is continued on another page. Oct 19, 2020 update. Again it is stuck on downloading.

A little clunky but i like seeing the pages as if it was in print. Browsing page by page brings stories to my attention that i would not seek out. At one time the headline provided a link to the full story but no longer; i liked that feature a lot and wish it was still am option.

This app has not worked on my Samsung tablet running Android 7 since May 20th. Yesterday it quit working on my wife's tablet running 10.It also quit on my phone and my wife's phone both running more current versions of Android. Called the PG and it appears they are no longer supporting the app. They want you to use the new PGe app that only works in portrait mode. Poor programming and little testing.

Pet. S. Oct 24, 2019

The only way I'm able to download a new edition is to uninstall then reinstall the app. This has been corrected. Now the articles will not expand when tapping the headline. I agree with the other reviewers. If the PG is going digital then you need to give subscribers the right tools!

You need to restore the font size, I have no use for the print button. Also I have not been able to log in on my phone on the last two Tuesday and earlier today. I hate the inconvenience of no printed paper and an App that does not offer a menu for font size, printing or log in to your account every time.

Rut. Y. May 13, 2020

It is virtually impossible to delete Editions that I have already read. This is extremely frustrating as I am running out of storage on my device. Other than that the app is fine. I much prefer print newspapers though.

If it weren't the town's only paper, I wouldn't bother. One of the worst apps ever. Crashes, fails to load properly, hard to read on a phone screen... hey guys, why don't you check out what REAL online news sources are doing? And don't send me to NewsSlide, which can be even worse.

Don. L. Aug 18, 2019

Used to run on Android tablet and Kindle HD10 but no more. Crossword puzzles do not update until later in the day. For a newspaper that wants to migrate readers to digital, it's a dismal failure. I'd give it zero stars if I could.

A. G. u. Aug 24, 2019

I pay for this service and every other day i have to uninstall and reinstall this app. Or it asks me for my log in and password every day after i download it. When it does work i never get page 2 and 3 of section A, its always blank. Now for the inconveniences of this we subscribers all should be compensated for this. This app is terrible, and needs to be fixed or my payments will be cancelled. Bring back the REAL paper, at least i can read that and it has a page 2 and 3.

Deb. M. Dec 3, 2019

Doesn't always load; links don't consistently work; call in support tells us that we don't have the latest technology (even with a new tablet); with one tablet, we can't "share" the paper. We think that you have alienated a lot of your loyal customers.

Ric. R. Oct 6, 2018

Cannot read newspaper unless connected to internet even after you have downloaded it. Also it should remember your preferred font size when you open up an article to read it instead of having to select it every time.

Tim. L. Dec 15, 2020

I really appreciate this type of presentation, which preserves the layout and daily edition of the region's newspaper of record. It's quite well implemented as well, and usable.

Bar. B. Aug 23, 2019

The first time the app is installed it works well, but the next time any attempt to retrieve the paper results in the app closing. This is frustrating and will result in my deletion of the app permanently and cancellation of my newspaper subscription.

Had to change the default font size on my galaxy tab e so that articles didn't get cut off. Sloppy text size estimation. Worse, I have to uninstall and reinstall once per week or the app just crashes .

No longer works since last update on my Pixel 2 XL phone. Had worked perfectly before. I continually get this message, "Please connect to the Internet to download first edition. " I have reported this issue twice to developer, but have not heard back.
