Worst investment ever. Never have I paid hundreds of dollars for the privilege of using such a broken trash app. $5 smart lights from China connect with greater reliability to their higher rated apps. I shouldn't have to mess with the sync box to make it work. I'm done troubleshooting. Gets a big thumbs down from me and anyone who asks for my smart lighting recommendation. This whole time it's been "connecting". Hasn't been updated in almost a year, so it shows that Signify doesn't give a f***.
Does not connect woth Hue Bridge. Worked for over a year, randomly stopped connecting to my bridge. All other Hue products work fine. The sync box says it needs to connect to the bridge, I go through the process and it connects successfully but after a few seconds it drops again. Extremely frustrating for something that cost hundreds of dollars.
Of all the functional everyday apps out there, this has got to be the most frustrating app I have ever used. When it works, it's great, but when you need it the most, it stays stuck on "Connecting" and most times you have to sacrifice 3 chickens at the peak of a cold winter mountain to get this to work. It is unnecessary effort. I have had this for years now and still no fix from such a big corpo. Take my 1 star and my fury.
My sync box connects to my bridge fine but the app has very basic functionality. So if you want to change how lights behave to music you have very basic control of brightness and intensity but that is it. Anything more you need to use pc version! I don't have a pc in my lounge so very disappointed. 3rd party hue apps allow such configuration but not to a sync box. Come on Philips...for the premium prices you charge you should provide better software!
Get your act together Phillips...like everyone else, I'm having issues with connecting the app to the sync box. I've had this box for about 8 months now and am constantly troubleshooting connectivity issues. With absolutely no help from Phillips technical support. Unless you have lots of patience, technical abilities and money, I don't recommend this product to anyone. Waiting over 8 months for app improvements but nothing from Phillips.
This app along with the sync box have been a massive waste of my time and money. The app won't connect to the sync box anymore, and the box itself has trouble displaying a hdr video signal on initial startup of my ps5. I have to unplug and replug the HDMI cable from the sync box in order to get the picture to display again. This has been an ongoing issue since I've started using this product.
It used to work but now all the sudden I need sync box to connect the app to bridge?? I can't control my lights even with the bridge connected to same network as my wifi on cellphone. I am sure something can be done as ut worked before(I already reinstalled). If they are pushing the buy, I would really be shattered and no more support hue in general.
I have had the sync box since day one and it does it's job. It will sync music, movies, and gaming. It's easy to configure with the app and is a much better experience then using your computer in order to use the sync app and lights. With that being said it does have it's cons. At times it takes a while for inputs to show it's video. At times you have to power off the box in order for the video to work. Other then that I like it just fix the bugs.
Day one sync box user here. After months of struggling to get this sync box to work correctly, it finally works the way it was intended to. The app has seen it's fair share of improvements as well. With the added voice control feature, you no longer have to fumble your phone to start and stop syncing. So far that feature has been flawless. High quality cables are a must. Don't go cheap. Loose cables can cause signal breaks. Try cable clips.
This is quite honestly one of the most frustrating apps to use. When it works, its great. I reiterate, "when it works." However, a 50-60% success rate in my personal experience for a product that's quite expensive is a bit disappointing. I bought it when it was first released and hoped by now I wouldn't have to struggle just to get the app to detect the box. I sometimes just use Hue Labs which is a let down considering that's free and doesn't even require a sync box. App makes product a let down
The box works great as an HDMI switch but the app is total garbage. It loops trying to connect to the box, so I don't get the full experience of light control. It worked for a while when I first setup the HDMI box, but hasn't in the past few months. I also tried to setup a second box in another room without any success, even as a passthrough. There shouldn't need to be a separate app for this. There are so many problems for something set at such a premium price that it's clear this was rushed.
A delight when it works, but hours spent removing and re-installing when connection is lost. Extremely frustrating. The app does not provide enough help to get up and running again. 25 April - many thanks for the response. Up and running again after multiple attempts. Removing and re-installing app etc. Took much, much longer than original install to get working in the first place. Very frustrating. When it is working - it's a delight!
When this thing works, it is amazing! The only problem is it can not handle the transition from hdr to any other signal. I have been getting up 2 or 3 times a day to unplug and replug my hdmi cord. The screen starts flashing black and white and no sound comes out. At this point I wouldn't recommend this until they can improve this more since it was over 200.
When it works it works great. App and system are very temperamental. Sometimes when activating the sync all it immediately finds the sync box and everything is great. Other times you'll find yourself doing a power cycle on the box and reloading the app over and over to only find the no sync box found. When it works, it works great, when it doesn't for no reason makes you want to throw it out the window. As much as I wish it was different for now if you want light sync stick with a pc.
I'm a huge fan of all things Hue... Or at least I was. This app and the device are just, terrible. I have ~25 lights (+ outside, etc.), motion sensors (+ outside, etc), the original Go, floorstand lights...I dig all of them. This product, both device and app are beyond sub-par for the brand. I've been holding off taking it back in the hope that the multivarious issues with it can be fixed software-side, but I'm not convinced it's worth the trouble.
Lights/hardware are amazing and actual syncing itself works awesome. App is beyond garbage. Only connects to the device 1/10 times you open it. Always just says searching for sync box. Google Home app works for control 100% of the time, but the only options I have there are on and off, so it's perfect if I never want to change any settings. Otherwise I have to close and reopen the Philips app 30 times before it finally connects. Usually takes 5 minutes or more EVERY single time I want to use it
Excellent one you get it working. I had real trouble getting the sync box communicating with the bridge (V2). In the end I moved the bridge into the same room as the sync box. This solved the issue with constant "connecting", and dropping out of lighting. Save yourself a lot of hassle with connections. Move the bridge into the room with the sync box. Instructions provided with the item are farcical, as is the troubleshooting info on philips' website.
When I originally set up the Sync Box, everything worked amazing, really made me satisfed with the money I put out, however a week goes by and the app will not connect to my sync box. I tried to reset the unit, get through all the steps until I get to 'Confirm the Connect' by pressing the button for 3 seconds until it turns green, no go. It flashes green for a split second and then the app is stuck on the screen, the support page doesn't have no information regarding this issue.
I love phillips hue lights. I want to love hue sync but its still fairly buggy. Lights sometimes lock on one colour for a fair amount of time and occasionally the whole system locks up and stops working altogether. All in all the system works well and is very impressive. But I'd really like to see the bugs ironed out more so it runs seamlessly at all times. Its a lot of money to pay for something that glitches out as much as it does.
Pretty annoying. I can start syncing, but then the app just says "connecting" to indicate that it is searching for the sync box This means that once I start syncing, I'm unable to change any settings or even turn it off from the app. I have to manually put the sync box on standby in order to reconnect the app to the box. I've had a house full of these lights for several years now and bad software continues to ruin the user experience. Also, this app should be integrated into the main Hue app.
Abysmal for a £230 device, the after-sales service is lacklustre at best. I do not use social media, so don't refer me to twitter or facebook. You cannot manually select an HDMI input to toggle between devices, it's done automatically when powering devices on and off. The colour accuracy is hit and miss, quite often it doesn't reflect what's actually on screen. It doesn't like the Apple TV box either, it struggles with 4K HDR and Dolby Vision isn't catered for. All in all, it needs more updates.
the Hue Sync Box is 100% a beta product. I do NOT recommend the sync box or app until it exits beta. at its best lights stay synced to media for 15-20 min intervals. then the picture cuts out and light syncing stops. you then need to turn the sync box off and back on to reconnect media. I have numerous TVs, media playback devices, and HDMI cables. use of all of them results in the same experience. a quick search of the internet shows this is not an isolated problem. do not support this product.
Edit: after a long call with support and several days of troubleshooting I had resolved to return the device. Then, with no real explanation. It connected. I did nothing differently. It just finally worked. While I don't think many people will monkey with it for a week rather than return. The device is actually very cool. Not impressed with overall quality out of box, but content that my money wasn't wasted.
Got the HUE Sync Box up and running, but I wonder why it is a separate app and not part of the HUE app. Trying to set up Google Assistent fails when I try to link my account; (because the app uses a browser that doesn't support JavaScript). I also set up two entertainment area's, one for movies that includes all my lights in the living room and one for normal TV shows, where I want some lights to work normal. But I'm only able to change the entertainment area with the app. As switching area's isn't supported as an action by the HUE dimmer.
Still needs some improvements. It works when it works. It takes a bit to turn it on and set the sync to sync with the videos. Probably better if this app was combined with the other hue app and provide more options on the sync. The set up portion of the entertainment area needs to show a 3d area as my lights are on top of each other.
For something so expensive you'd think that it would work. So many times this app has failed, if only they would allow professional people to create things that connect with philips stuff like zigbee is supposed to do. The gradient light and sync box are great but don't think you'll be able to use an app to make changes 5 seconds after you managed to get it working. If there's an update you'll need to reset everything and start again. Philips don't have a great app development team!!!!
The app is basically ok and does what it's supposed to but with very little control. Once you've set up your TV lights that's it, no more control besides one overall brightness level. I can't be alone in wanting to be able to adjust my rear lights within the confines of the main brightness can I? I can adjust my individual speakers in my Sonos app for sound, why not in this app for my lights?
