Wherever you are, you can easily connect from your pocket phone to Phototrap for site live video-surveillance. It works via WiFi or any mobile network, no special settings are required. You can manually capture pictures and record video while monitoring the site.
Phototrap can independently protect your property by sending Photos or Video from the site
· at motion detection,
· automatically, in defined period of time from 1s to 24hours (time-lapse feature),
· by your request.
Motion in the protected area is being detected by an External Sensor or/and Embedded Motion Videodetector.
External Sensor can be a standard PIR motion detector or any other sensor: door sensor, smoke detector, etc. Advantage of using External Sensor is lower false alarms quantity and very long (up to several weeks) Phototrap on-battery operation time, without external power. Refer to our Facebook group to learn how to connect standard detector to the Phototrap.
Embedded Motion Videodetector of Phototrap has adjustable sensitivity and 2 working modes: Indoor and Outdoor. In outdoor mode you select triggering areas, excluding areas causing false alarms, e.g. a swinging tree. The Motion Videodetector in outdoor mode provides detection range up to 30 meters and longer at day time.
When motion is detected, Phototrap takes High-Quality pictures or video, saves to the phone memory, and sends them to your private Email box. Your pocket phone instantly notifies you about new messages in the Email box and downloads pictures and videos to show you on-site events. Downloaded images are being placed to the Photo-gallery which has excellent toolkit allowing to zoom images, tune images brightness/contrast, easily delete blank images, etc.
Phototrap doesn't use an untrusted cloud for sending/receiving/saving pictures and videos, you use trusted public Email provider or Email-server of your organization. Phototrap doesn't request your private account credentials, it's recommended to create a dedicated Email box for using in the application.
Any time you can request picture or video from the site, or send a command to Phototrap for changing any parameter, e.g. change motion detector sensitivity, time-lapse interval, etc.

I had high hopes for this app. I had it set to 24-hour mode (at max resolution and video archive max size not limited). I changed the settings so that it would save videos in 15-minutes segments to my Google drive. My phone was on a tripod facing the window, while charging. It ran for about 11 hours, and saved none of it. It's not in the app's video archive, not in my gallery, and not in my google drive.
it is a great app. It does what it says, it is not hard on my battery, I love it. I shopped for a trail cam but they all use SD cards, this doesn't. I need this, to feel secure, I didn't think a phone could do it, but this works, it's excellent. Small download size, which I like, and I would not be upset if they added a mb or two, for instructions, on the next version. Great product!
Wow! This is a great app! Exactly what I need! Thank you! I use it to take pictures of birds coming to the waterer. My only suggestion is to add setting for the focus. With the current infinite focus setting if I put the camera too close then the birds are blurry. But the birds are small so if I could adjust the focus and put the camera closer then the app would take much better pictures :)
lags real bad on two different phones when app is running it doesn't show real time it takes it a few seconds to catch up, in motion detect mode it misses the first part of the video by the time it start what ever set it off is probably gone . It's like it's using to much RAM and fighting to process all the information
Really impressed with this app! Turns an old phone into something useful. Motion detect works well as you can select which regions in the immage to watch. It would be nice if you can zoom the camera to view only the area that interest you. App sometimes exit without known reason.
Functional app, found that what we thought was a hedgehog, was just a brave cat. Only 4 stars as it drains the battery at a tremendous rate and is not easy to stop, so had to uninstall to get my battery to last again.
Very nice app, I am amazed by your hard work and response to every comment and review here and on Facebook page. You deserve more appreciation. People need to understand making camera apps is a tough job (especially the quality, as every phone has a different camera model and different combinations of hardware and software). Good luck 😃
This is a great app not only for trail cam but also home security. Thanks it works well.
Set up to catch foxes. Log shows loads of pictures and video, yet app only shows a few of them, and cant find rest in phone memory. Very disappointed.
Camera works great once you've got your settings where you need but it keeps crashing hard, repeatedly, telling me it can't connect to the camera.
Does not close the app when you turn the app off... kept taking photos when I didn't want it too.. also kept turning on my screen even if power saving mode is on and that drains your battery quickly... damn shame
Just don't record birds. Movements of my hands fire testing it records.
Works well. but I can't get the app to close. Really don't want to delete it but maybe I've no option. Would have given it a 5 star bar this.
The app has intelligible user interface, very needed outdoor mode and some other features, works stably even without charger connected
Why is there no way to close the app?? Why did you design this to keep running in the background even after trying to close it??
One Star....because i cant see how to get the "Full" version of this Phototrap app so that you can enable the SMS/MMS texting features and recieve instant messaged photos from your phototrap cell phone????
Best motion detection app ever. Only thing better is a game camera that costs an arm n a leg. Super impressed!! GREAT JOB!!
This worked brilliantly for me, set up a photo trap for nocturnal animals and it got results!
Useless. Doesn't keep phone active even when plugged in. Freezes all the time.
Version 5, is a great improvement. Love the zoom feature. Deserve 5 stars.
Decent app but crashes and locks on android 11 Samsung s21 ultra. Sad. Reported to Google.
this app is a piece of garbage. even after I went to settings it would still jack up my phone and glitch out.
Said my new phone with 100gb free storage was short of memory and crashed.
Requires giving up your email password and also an SMTP set up which I don't understand. Security risk as you've given this company your email account password

This app has good potential, but some of the ways it works are still quite primitive, for example when sitting durations, we have no idea what unit is used, is it seconds or minutes? Deleting recorded clips can only be done 1 by 1, which is really not very clever for an app that can end up creating dozens of clips... And the motion sensor, why can it only detect if movement is still occuring if using an external sensor, which nobody has, can't it just keep analysing the image for movement ? 😬
