I've only been learning a new language for 5 days and I feel like a can hold a decent conversation. 30 minute daily course and flashcards to review afterwards! The only downside is the app itself. It pauses by it self or sometimes not even play audio at all unless I close and reopen the app. I probably won't be able to use it while multitasking something else as I would have to come back and restart the audio after it stops by itself. The courses are great though!
I'm leaving this review as feedback to the developers. A recent update made to the app added in extra buttons to change chapters when in driving mode. The position of the buttons is disastrous. Now every when I try to seek back 10 seconds to re-listen I very often accidentally hit the previous chapter button. This causes me to lose my spot, and is overall a huge annoyance. It's fine if you want to chapter buttons to be there but put them on a different plane than the seek buttons. Please fix.
Amazing! After I do each lesson twice or thrice, I remember it. I rarely have to go over it more than that. I have the Duolingo app as well, but this app has helped me even more. And unlike other language-learning apps, I actually remember what I learn here. It is expensive, but compared to in-person lessons, it's much cheaper, and you learn faster. So if you want to learn a language quicker then the usual time it takes, I suggest uploading this app. Couldn't be happier!
I don't know what these skips and drops in audio are that people are having, but mine keeps chugging along even when not the priority app. I think people are asking for the app to have optional permission to keep their phone on or something... but again, no issues here. I've learned and RETAINED more useful content in 4 days than I did in other apps that are free with more time investment. This thing gets in your head. It's great.
The lesson quality is outstanding, but the app continues to be terrible. The audio stops every 2-3 minutes if the screen is off, so it requires constant baby sitting. The audio will not resume after any interruption from Google Maps, etc. I am unable to use the app when doing yard work, exercising, washing dishes, driving, showering... basically any time I would use the app. Other apps work as expected. Pimsleur, stop asking your customers to troubleshoot basic functionality.
+ One of the best apps there is, really helps you perfect your pronunciation and repetition is enough but not too much. After a lesson you understand a whole conversation in your language so its nice a nice achievement - However it does not teach you the alphabets for symbol languages so reading and writing youll need other resources. Expensive with few discounts opportunities. Being a visual learner i really wish it showed you the words on the screen when you first here them! Has no soul
I've tried a lot of different language learning apps but I am in love with Pimsleur! It teaches you the language in a way that you can start speaking conversationally right away. The free trial is great but the amount of the language that you learn as soon as you do from these lessons is totally worth the cost of the subscription too. Much cheaper than formal classes but it's the same content!
Lessons are great, but ap crashes constantly. A year ago it worked great, but now crashes and closes every few minutes. And when you open it back up it doesn't save your place. They really need to get this figured out, as right now they are taking my money, but not providing a usable service
Well it's good audio exercise, I can't deny that. But for either $119 dollars for one course, or $240 dollars yearly for full access....well I can't in good consciousness reccomend this. If you can afford that, you're better off just hiring a tutor. If you can't. You can find videos on youtube and can do basically the same thing for free. Good idea, but definitely not worth the cash, lmao
Good content and learning experience, but log in is clunky and getting to lesson material results in error screen with additional back-click to open daily lesson. Reading exercise pages don't work, but can hear audio. Lesson material is good, but look and feel of website needs updating. Lesson images are dated and non-sensical.
As someone who got an F in highschool Spanish class and struggled with DuoLingo, Pimsleur has been a real game changer. Been learning Russian at an easy pace and I'm really impressed with how natural the process is. It's challenging, but not as mentally draining as other language courses I've tried before. My only nitpick are a few glitchy UI/data syncing issues I've noticed on the app side - the course content itself is A+.
If youre a beginner I'd highly recommend. If you really wanna learn a language i think its a great way to start off its cheap so you dont have to break the bank before you know if learning a language is for you. Its really fun and when you come back every day for your lesson its really effective (at least for me!). Definately give it a shot! (I should note that i am taking the lessons seriously and im taking notes not just using the app)
I used the app one day and wasn't impressed. I thought I might try it a 2nd day but I never felt interested then unfortunately I forgot to cancel so I got billed the $20.80 at the end of the trial. My bad. I cancelled immediately and requested a refund. I was on the app 30 minutes on the first day only but they feel justified keeping my money. Stick to your no refund policy. That's fine by me, take your one star review in return you greedy jerks. 😉
Very suitable, efficient method, great interface. I'm a long term user, and i cant describe how much this app helped me with my study. Also, i experienced very good treatment from the customer service. App keeps updating, and its even more comfortable to use, than last time, when i was doing another course. Wide range of languages, the user is greatly lead through course, and from all the language learning apps i tried, this one is surely the very best one. The price is amazing,highly reccomend.
This app is a fantastic addition to Ling (tagalog) and Duolingo (Spanish)!!! I feel immersed. My speaking, comprehension and recall have accelerated exponentially! I play the audio lessons while driving to/from work and do a lesson on the other apps at home. Absolutely perfect combination!!!
I started out with Live Mocha when it first came out, used Duolingo when it first came out, and finally started researching what software actual fluent speakers recommended, and Pimsleur kept coming up. I can see why now. This app focuses more on audio, and learning like a baby. No gamification, no guilt, just great content. My only ask would be an export of the phrases into Anki (which fluent speakers also recommend), or at least pulling the Anki "spaced repetition"algorithm into the app.
Very happy with pimsleur learning. It's very efficient and after 9 lessons of Turkish I can actually express certain things and have a small conversation (not just passive knowledge!). I wish there was more than 1 level of Turkish language though
I moved to a new state almost a year ago with more Spanish speaking people than there were back home. I decided it would be a great opportunity to learn a new language and make more friends. I have tried SOOO many other language learning subscriptions. So far this is the most natural and easy to remember. I'm able to have small conversations with my Spanish speaking friends after only two weeks! I suggested this app to them so we can learn languages together! So much fun!
Great experience! There are a few small bugs with the app, but overall WAY worth the investment. I feel like I'm learning both quickly and sustainably. I also feel really confident with my accent and my reading . Would definitely recommend 🤩
The method is based in listening and repeating, the same way we learned our mother tongue. I have the impression at some point you might have to complement it with a grammar course, but for speaking is great!!
This is honestly one of the best apps for language learning. There's now a £18.49 per month subscription for all 51+ languages and I promise you if you're skeptical, don't be. You will not regret paying it. It'll get you speaking your target language conversationally and more quicker than anywhere else and it's not boring either. Worth every single penny.
Although the application is very glitchy, the actual program is really quite good. I have thoroughly enjoyed using pimsleur and will continue to do so. One thing I would like to see is a vocabulary list for every single lesson instead of many little lists (survival skills, shopping etc) which are slowly added to throughout each unit.
