I rarely leave reviews, but this app is so good if you have an OLED screen. There are tons of apps that dim every pixel by X%, but this is the only one I've found that just turns off some pixels while leaving others on without dining. The result is that you don't have weird issues with colors like you sometimes do with the other sort of dimming app. Occasionally I use both this and Screen Filter at the same time if I really want the screen to be dark.
I do like the filter itself and the notification with the option to quickly turn off more or less pixels. I kind of wish it had an option to set it to turn on and off when the battery gets down to a certain level or at certain hours. However, the app crashes every time the screen rotates, even when the filter is not active.
I've been using this app for so long, I take it for granted. I think it's an absolute must for oled displays. After my current Pixel 3a XL got updated to Android 12, the pixel filter makes the touch screen useless. For now, the app just doesn't work. Looking forward to an update or a response to fix.
Custom pixel patterns. Notification, widget and Quicktiles to toggle on off. Detect lumen for auto off. Open source, NO ADS. Extremely simple, no frills. Would gladly pay money for this app if they update it. To people complaining they can't press button in some app, this is normal for all apps that require overlay.
Works and customizing your own filter is free compared to the others however it seems to be causing random ghost touches which I sadly have to stop using this in a mere 30 minutes. Not sure if this is a isolated case or not but I'll wait for a fix. Update 2/3/20: Certain custom mesh such as my scanline custom mesh can cause the ghost touching at random times however using the presets remedy the issue.
Works great for me on Nougat 7.1.1 the settings tile was an unexpected bonus! And I still can do everything with it on such as using the OK to verify. Example i had Pixel Filter on and went to settings > apps and chose an app to uninstall and it asked me and I touched the dim OK and it uninstalled the app! Also I can turn off the notification but I like it because when I expand it I can tap Configure and it brings up the Pixel Filter app!! Thank you for a great free app.
Is this app still maintained? It hasn't had an update since 2018, so maybe not. Android 12, as we're finding out, is a peculiar beast. Now this fantastic app is unsuable, completely blocking access to the screen. Five stars for legacy awesomeness, zero for current practicability. It's probably a case of Android deciding once again that it needs to impose "security measures" on us ignorant children, but I hope a workaround can be found.
This app has worked great for me over the years. Recently installed it again and it was pretty clutch today (forgot to charge phone before going to bed and had an 8 hour shift). I don't use it all the time, just when my phone is low.
This is one of my essential apps i have used on multiple divises, however after latest phone software update it stopped working, there is no way to i could find draw over apps setting. Please advise if there are any workarounds, otherwise great app!
App Constantly crashes!!! The "watch light level" does not work, and I'm slways receiving alerts on my phone that this app is using too much battery in the background, (which kind of defeats the whole point of using it!) This app is totally useless and potentially dangerous. Uninstalled!!
Broken on pixel 6 pro. I absolutely loved this app on my previous phones, worked a charm. But i am completely unable to use my phone when the filter is enabled on my pixel, none of the touches will register... Please fix this, I've always loved this app and would pay money for an improved version.
Use to work amazing for me no longer does. I upgraded to the Google pixel 6 and it seems when it's running my home screen doesn't work at all, I have to lock then disable from lock screen.
Carefully this app does not work on android 12. Once you leave the app touchscreen will stop working. Luckily if you use 3 button navbar you can press recent app 2 times to get back to the app and siable it. If it swipe gesture idk what will happen.
Worked great until Android 12, unfortunately like other reviews say the touchscreen is not usable with pixel filter on. Have to uninstall and find something else. Awesome app just unfortunate for now!
No longer working after Android 12 update. Was great before, but after an update on my tab 6 I cannot use my tablet while the filter is active. Hoping for a fix soon
I'm not seeing the point. Turning off half of all pixels versus halving the intensity of all pixels uses the same overall power. The latter is built in. Tried it anyway to see what it looks like on my AMOLED display. Everything looks terrible, and it kills your ability to read very fine text. So I lose out on image quality and break even on power savings? Moreover, the app crashed after 4 minutes. Conclusion: Nope
Can't press buttons or links in apps. When I tap on one an error message keeps popping up non stop that this app is preventing it from doing actions. Turning it on and off every time I want to do something is just annoying.
Overall it does dim your screen so it isn't so bright however it doesn't help the battery life at all. If anything it makes the battery life worse. Overall not impressed for my personal usage but it gets the job done by dimming the screen and alternating the pixels.
I've been using this app for years. I love it. It simply lets you make the screen darker than the stock settings allow by shutting off pixels if you have an oled display. I use it every night to watch movies on my phone when I go to bed
Great idea and it works; however, it claims access to the screen overlay which blocks the ability to activate various system settings for other apps by blocking accessibility to the "OK" butting to confirm a setting's activation. Too bad, the app does what it says but at a huge cost to other device functionality.
Great way to save battery, the custom filter makes it easy to decide how much power i want to save. However, when using the filter, my device suddenly has issues with detecting touch
This app is really great, it helps me save battery, it also helps me at night in dimming the screen, and I dont know if this feature is included in the app but it somehow increases my fps in playing games, although kinda annoying because I constantly need to turn it off just to take a clear screenshot
Unfortunately it crashes every time I turn the screen off. So I need to start the app every time after unlocking the phone. Very annoying. (OP 6, Pie)
Screen input doesn't work anymore after Pixel 3aXL update to Android 12. Before, this app was perfect for saving my eyes at night but it's now been useless for months!!! Developer, when is this app gonna get fixed?!
It is great, but it would have been greater if there was a version for ROOTED users, so that they can filter the whole system UI using ROOT Permission not just overlaying it.
App is broken in Android 12. It is not maintained, last update was in 2018. Looks great but disables all screen inputs.
Simple, effective, free, without ads and in my opinion one of the best ways to save battery on amoled display.
A handy little app for dimming the screen through dithering/half-tones rather than just a transparent black overlay. I love the ability to customise patterns, though I wish there were clear/fill all buttons and/or spaces between the lines as they are very cramped. No ads that I've noticed, and works fine on my old cheap phone even when rotating the screen.
