Pixel Pulse

Pixel Pulse can give you a pulsing Ambient Display that activates when you have notifications available.

The free option uses a branded icon and repeats the title and content of your actual notifications. The paid version adds the ability to use the default apps icon and colors, override colors, and have swipe and tap actions.

You can also replace the double tap to wake with the scrolling pulse, which is my favorite feature. Just be sure to turn off Google's double tap to wake.

For it to work you need the following settings:
Notification content shown on the lock screen
Always on display off
Wake on new notifications on

*If you previously purchased Ambi-Turner - there is a mechanism to convert your purchase to this app.

Downgrading to 3 stars for now, sometimes the app just doesn't seem to want to show notifications and not sure why. Just picked up a Pixel 3 as they are now dropping in price with the Pixel 4 on the horizon, but completely and utterly baffled how Google didn't include a notification LED on their flagship phone!?!? This app worked fine for me once I figured out the various features. I'm guessing those having problems are not completely following necessary steps. I also found that I had to reboot my phone to get changes to take place (or maybe I was just impatient). I think the app could use some improvements in usability, some of the features are not intuitively clear. But in general the app was worth the few extra dollars to get some of the other features.

Doesn't work on the Pixel 3 XL. I've triple checked all my settings to make sure they were as they are supposed to be. But no pulsing. The only notifications I get are the same ones that the phone already sends. Please fix this as I really miss being able to get real notifications without having to touch the phone. I was really hoping this would resolve the not having the blinking light for notifications. If this would actually work, I'd pay for the upgrade.

Does what it says - I'm using this to replace Light Flow, even though this is far less detailed. I would like to see further customization, for instance, allow for settings that can be applied to not just the messages app, but also to contacts associated with the notification. If there was a feature to add a notification sound and vibration that would be fantastic. Last on my wish list would be more options for wearables. All that said, I really enjoy what's been done so far.

I'm using a OnePlus 6T on Android 9 and it's working fine. If you follow all the directions it will work. I've read many 1 star ratings where they are clearly not following directions. I love the customization on this app and would only ask if it would be possible to center the notifications on the screen instead of defaulting to the left. Thank you!

Followed the instruction, just doesn't work at all. Using OnePlus 6T. Notifications are displayed by the phone's basic feature but nothing from pulse. it's too bad because it would have been an alternative. in any case the removal of the led light was a huge mistake by oneplus. I have uninstalled and reinstalled. Followed all the steps. Perhaps it was broken with the recent update I received. In any case, I appreciate your efforts but I have decided to return the OnePlus 6T. This product SHOULD COME with some kind of notification system built-in. Thanks.

After much trial and error I am at the conclusion this doesnt work properly on my pixel 3 XL. I have followed all setup instructions, notifications on, notification access to the app, battery optimization off, etc. The problem is when my phone gets a notification when the screen is off it shows up once, like it would without the app, but doesn't pulse after that. However, if I have a notification then turn off the screen it will pulse, defeating the purpose. Hope the dev can figure it out.

I love this alternative on my Pixel 3 XL. I had to go in a few times before I realized that the battery optimization needed to be for the Pixel Pulse app. For some reason when I clicked the battery optimization link it was not taking me to the right place, which could be a part of the issue with the reviews about it stopping. works like a charm for me. Thank you for this app!

I updated to latest version , but it is the same , Pulse Interval can not be changed. Otherwise great app, if this could be solved at least for 10- 15 second interval. After update , now the Pixel pulse show notification that I do have a new message, even, if I don't have any and I paid for apps, but after upgrade I can not change the color or notification icons anymore ???

Only app I can find on this space that works right out of the box. A few improvements would be nice, but there are no deal breakers. I would suggest an alternative mode where the screen stays constantly on until dismissed, but it's not really necessary to fully utilize the app.

Basically a mandatory app for everyone owning a Pixel (or LED free) phone, who's not willing to keep the Ambient Display activated permanently. Purchased or free, it doesn't work on Pixel 3 (I have purchased, too). This has been reported in reviews (here) as well as on XDA forum, and I haven't found someone with a Pixel 3 who's able to confirm it's working. (Of course, I've triple check all required settings with respect to notification and battery optimzation, reinstalled, ... nope) Once it's running (what I'm waiting for!), it's going get it's deserved rating ...

Works well on Pixel 3 if you follow the instructions. Only 2 bugs I've noticed is that the schedule doesn't work - i wonder if it doesn't adjust for different time zones? The other is that the pulse interval feature doesn't seem to do as it's told. But the main functionality works just fine.

Works great! on OnePlus6T. A great added feature would be if the "nothing to report" option could have its own separate time for how often it displays(pulses). Or more important alerts like text, phone or email time pulsing could be adjusted for different pulse times as to importance. Just a thought.😀 Great work! Thanks!

Must have app if you dont have a pulse notification LED. The indisplay fingerprint sensor on my OP6t turns off in pocket mode... because i cannot check my phone if it's in the pocket. Is is possible to turn off the notifications too ? also I can change the pulse timer. but i want to turn it off also quicker. like it stays on like 5 seconds before going through timer. possible way to adjust that ? I love your app.. I am not complaining. Just suggestions. Thankyou.

Basic stock Pixel 3 XL here. Everyone was recommending this sadly it does not function consistently or even at all. Notification pulses just don't appear unless set them to never expire, in testing when I've got them to appear none of the 'pro' features function correctly, color replacements only affect Pulse icon, creates double icons, etc. Unfortunately can't get my money back since pro is gated behind 'donations'. Will update pending favorable Beta review, otherwise rating stays.

This app works for about 20 min after rebooting phone, after that it simply does not work. I wasted too much time checking and rechecking settings. I even paid to see if that helps, and it doesn't. Very disappointed with app and pixel 3 overall. Don't waste your time.

For me it didn't work straight away... After few times installing and re-installing it still wasn't working on my OnePlus 6T. Tried all the steps mentioned like activating ambient display (on/off) few times, and allow notification on ambient display (on/off) few times. Only after re-booting the phone it started working. I guess some app register for the notification factor (Would be nice to add this to the activating TODO list). Anyway now it works.

It simply doesn't work. I have the paid version running on Pixel 3. Tried all possible settings. Waiting for an update, that's why I gave it 3 stars instead of one... - Actually, I'm giving it 1 star now (wish had zero stars option), for it simply doesn't work on Google Pixel 3; is frustrating and hopeless: any reasonable app developer stands by its code, and this code doesn't work, period. Is a work of rookies who want to make an underserved buck. Try it, but don't buy it!!!

Please help me. Maybe I've missed a setting. What is the point of Ninja mode if you need 'wake screen on notification' set to 'show all content'? This means that android shows the entire message that Ninja mode hides. I also found that I needed to disable/enable the 'allow app to run' for app settings to change. I wish there was a comprehensive help file as I think I've missed something with the 50+ tests I've done. At least the app (sort of) works unlike the others I've tired.

Could not get it to work. Tried enabling and disabling anything related to ambient display from the phone's settings, enabled pulse for all the apps, changing the pulse interval. It did not work. I can't give it more than 3 stars when it's not even working for me.

How does one disable battery optimization for this app on a Pixel 3XL? It doesn't show up in the list of apps. Will change reviewed rating once it works for me. Edit: while I was unable to find the setting above, a reboot solved the issue and the app works as described. With some aesthetic adjustments, it would get 5 stars.

A. G. u. Nov 16, 2018

Edit: the notifications stopped continuously popping up as of yesterday's update, which does mention a fix for that problem. So that's cool. Now I just hope the OP6T is capable of sliding notifications away but idk how to see if a phone is compatible with such feature. This app is a awesome addition to the Oneplus 6T

Works good on Pixel 3xl. I wish it would replicate a small flashing LED on the top corner of the screen. (Why did google not include this on the Pixel3?!) I would also like the option to show a pulse notification without vibrating. Great otherwise. I'm happy someone made this necessary app.

Love this app, it's a great alternative for this if us without a notification led. My only complaint currently is that I can't find a way to remove the "pixel pulse is running" notification and still keep the apps functionality (though I believe this is an Android issue not a PP issue).

A. G. u. Jan 7, 2019

I really want to like this app bc I miss my LED notifications so much...but, the notification colors and actions aren't working! I think I have all the recommended settings correct but it's not letting me swipe off the notifications. If this would work (and the colors as an added bonus), I think it would be a great app. Any advice??

A. G. u. Dec 18, 2018

Good app. Hope to keep going to update. I found a problem. Every is OK. But if I reboot Pixel 3, Pixel Pulse will not function. And also there will be no function after a while. I also disable battery optimization and follow the requirement of this app. I will wait a new update. Thank you for all your effort.

A. G. u. Feb 20, 2019

Works great on Pixel 3, does exactly what I expected. Only issue I have is the constant blank notification when you swipe down your notification bar. Other than that, no issues. Edit: With knowing how to get rid of that, 5 stars!

A. G. u. Aug 30, 2019

People have not rated this app properly. If not because of their own lack of ability to configure it or using it on a non pixel device. This works perfect and as billed for Pixel owners without a notification light. I wish I had more money to purchase the Pro version and buy you a beer. Thank you.

Pixel 3 XL works great. Im not sure if the people experiencing problems are actually disabling battery optimization as instructed. Go to battery optimization, select all apps, and disable it for this app. Keep in mind the app is just a purple phone symbol and is unnamed in the list but should be at the top.
