Pixel Soldiers: The Great War

Pixel Soldiers: The Great War is a simple to play, but difficult to master turn based strategy game set during the First World War. You will choose to command the armies of either the Entente (France, Britain and Russia) or the Central Powers (Germany, Austria and the Ottoman Empire).

You will fight from 1914 to 1918 on the Western Front and Eastern Front. You will land on the beaches at Gallipoli, desperately hold or seize the important city of Verdun and try to achieve a breakthrough on the Somme.

This game is the fourth entry in the Pixel Soldiers series. Previous games: Pixel Soldiers: Waterloo, Pixel Soldiers: Bull Run and Pixel Soldiers: Gettysburg.

Great game, similar to a lot of other games of this type but it definitely stands out as the best. I would like it if you added two types of campaigns, one 'large' and one 'small' for how many soldiers you control. I guess the battles you have are historic but maybe they can be the large, and the small campaign can be mini battles that *could* have happened in the great war, because I don't like having to control such large numbers all the time. I'd Also Love See An online mode and map creator:)

It's what it says it is, it's a simple pixel WW1 turn based game. Good for all ages and is not difficult to grasp by any means. While nothing particularly stands out in this game, it has good diversity of units and mechanics. I hope to see some changes and additions like weather or maps maybe some new units. I think a pixel game like this based in WW2 would be well received.

I never buy phone games, but I'm glad I made an exception. The graphics may not be the most extraordinary, but still have a very endearing style. In addition, the user interface has pretty much all of the quality-of-life features you could want. The game really fun to learn and rarely gets tedious. If I had any criticism, it would be that there is no "stay held" option for a unit, so units in stationary roles have to be manually told to hold every turn Edit: (LOS is fine on second inspection)

Game is a lot of fun. I played through each campaign at every difficulty level and it didn't lose it's novelty. I like how you can deviate from the historical battle possibilities (think trench warfare) and fight a manuever war. I think the AI could use a little improvement at the highest difficulty, sometimes it doesn't feel like I'm fighting a seasoned tactician. Will probably buy the others in the series. Great job!

This game is amazing in all respects. It doesn't lag like other mobile games and it is a one time flat fee with no in app purchases. The campaign is fun and sandbox even more so. I only have 4 criticisims. 1: The sandbox does not let you make your own maps and the few that you do get can get boring after awhile. 2: You cannot chose where to deploy your troops. 3: There are only a few different units. 4: The army sizes are somewhat small and you can get a max of 60 land units and maybe ships.

Truly an excellent strategy game, and a fairly accurate depiction of the great war. I love almost everything about it. I hope that content is added later on to keep it fresh. Maybe more unit types like flamethrowers or submarines. Also, I love the casualty statistics but I wish more stats would be shown, like total men involved, or maybe a list of the top units with the most kills. This game deserves an A+

Simple turn based wargame with a few units, generals that level up throughout campaigns, and an interesting flanking and entrenchment system. I have spent hours this week playing and solving challenging tactical puzzles. There are some areas where I think this game could be even better. The AI is about what I expected from an Android wargame which is to say that it isn't very good. It predictably camps around and masses troops in a few linear ways. Could have beaten me at Verdun. Recommended A-

Now this is a great, ww1 themed strategy game. It's not only realistic in terms of morale, soldier types, difficulty, an abundance of in depth playstyles and more, but also has clean, simple 8-bit graphics. Nice music too. Ps: It could use the functionality of combining of units to make bigger units, with the downside of the chance of disorienting units. Just an idea.

Great game, glad they made it free so I could get a taste of their games, it's worth 3 bucks, for sure- the game's only real drawback is a mild lack of variety, it sits at "just enough." Units essentially consist of 11 types, but you have 30~40 options (depending on whether you are the entente or the Germans+allies). That said, there are a decent number of maps, and gameplay is good, and the air support system is fantastic. I have a few suggestions, but I won't talk about that here. 4.5 Stars!

So good. So easy to play but so well made and balanced. You can even quit part way through a turn and continue right from that moment (provided you quit through the purse menu). Loving the campaign, only suggestion would be a conquest mode, similar to the Total War games, in which the war will unfold in new ways based on you and the AI grand war moves then fighting the battles out in the current combat system. Otherwise, one of my favorite phone games ever! Great work!

Amazing game, one of my favourites ever. I think it could maybe use an online multiplayer mode as it would really add to the re-playability of the game. I would also say a map editor but I know that is being worked on. Also, I love how interactive the developer is with their audience and is open to criticisms. I personally think it is an important trait of any developer, do good job.

Excellent simple turn based game, No Ads, or if there are, they were so unobtrusive I've forgotten about them entirely. The campaign is very well done, and I LOVE the ability for commanders that survive battles to persistently move from battle to battle and gain experience, potentially surviving the entire war. Highly recommend if you're looking for a simple yet challenging, easy to pick up and put down game with a deceptively simple charm.

Really, really good. This really nails the sweet spot between simplicity and intuitiveness of interface with really engaging tactical gameplay. I really like the art style which succesfully communicates a lot of information about what is going on and the status of units in a very unfussy way. I will definitely be trying the other ones in this style.

I would say this is probably the best RTS game I've played in a while with more of a retro style. Nice pixel artwork, many units at disposal, and realistic battles. A very good game to play if you want to pass time or even just enjoy the nostalgia of a pixel based game. Overall I can say that I really enjoy it and even plan to get other games like this. Also cheers to the dev for making games like this and bringing a game that us strategic players want to play.

Literally THE BEST turn based strategy on mobile. Hours of play in the campaign, more hours of day in sandbox, and against friends! Maybe add an online mode? My friends and I have played this game against each other for 2 years! I went ahead and bought the new campaign just to support the game. Good game! Maybe upgrade the sound? Specifically ambient music is super repetitive, I had to turn it off. Well done! P.S. I would pay for online mode!!

I love the expansion. Played french side at lieutenant level, the final battle was grinding and tough, and strategic challenge. One flaw on that final map, sometimes french reinforcements get stuck on entry. ......I'm stunned that each Pixel Soldiers game doesn't have 100,000 purchases each yet. Very smart strategic game system and every battle is different. I think the game just needs new dynamic cover art to attract potential buyers. Really a fantastic game series.

Great game, super addictive. I enjoyed playing the game. Well worth the price. I experienced no issues at all playing as the Allies, the game is a little harder as the Axis. I quit frustrated on the 3rd level (Dardanelles campaign) as my pixel soldiers mysteriously kept vanishing here and there. Reloaded amd the error never reappeared. Enjoyed the game.

Excellent game. A light strategic challenge. The pixel graphics make it easily intelligible what is going on when viewed on a phone, but at the same time have a nice look. Large buttons and clear text are good for those of us with fat fingers! Great variation in mission types built on a simple set of rules.

Great game, only complaint is when there is a lot of troops you cant move multiple amounts of troops. Maybe you could add a highlighting system where you can tap the top of the screen so the highlighted troops go up as most as they can. It's just a bit inconvenient when it takes 7 minutes a single turn.

This game was very fun, but a bit short. The concept of the game is perfect for a mobile platform, and I really liked the simple graphics. The battles were not too challenging and we're always intriguing enough to keep me playing. The game ended up being pretty short though, for me it took about 5-7 hours to finish. If you can find this game on sale for $0.99 then get it, for it is worth that, but I am not sure it is fully worth it's full asking price. I am excited to see where this series goes.

great game! only complaint is that i wish there was some kind of collateral damage in the game. for example when you are shooting at a unit with a battleship or artillery, and there are other units bunched up next them, i wish the other units would take small ammounts of damage from the artillery shooting so close to them. even if its friendly units it would be cool if you could accidentally friendly fire from the artillery-battleships/tanks.
