UPDATE:On newest tablet, since sept update, stays on PD screen at start.Have to clear cache,settings, re-login,clear DB each use on newest tablet. This app crashes about once or twice each day of use. Also the screen redraw of each page is extremely slow all the time even on the newest and fastest tablet or phone. None of my other apps do this on my devices. Have used app since it came out with multiple devices and app updates with no improvement. Would appreciate an update to fix these issues.
Major Bummer Considering this is a major metropolitan newspaper as well as the major news paper for the state of Ohio, it is very disappointing that they can't or won't invest the time and effort to making a decent app in order to bolster subscription rates. Considering it is a digital age, this would kind of be a good idea. Hire an app developer who knows what they are doing please.
Takes a long time to focus if you resize the page, and will lock up sometimes. Frustrating that it never gets fixed. Latest issue: It will not load current paper. It will load yesterday's paper. (Does anyone at the paper ever read these?)
I subscribe to 2 national papers (WSJ & National Catholic Register) and 5 local papers (Washington Times, Greensburg Tribune Review, Columbus Dispatch, Mansfield News Journal, and Plain Dealer) this app for the Dealer is aweful. It's hard to read, subscribing was a challenge, navigating is very cumbersome, app quit several times, menu structure lacks a lot (still cannot find my account info). I really wanted this paper digitally but the app very frustrating - may not be worth renewing.
I am so frustrated with how this app navigates, literally too complicated for it being a newspaper and news app, so many loops holes i have to navigate just to get to my account and restart service because it just wants me to log out and back in to find my account to make a payment, so many things that are just dumb to mention with this navigation system 😒
I would like to see at least a little bit more articles on Lake County which is where I live. If possible this could be a Dan which you do print the articles or the online app. Great clarity and coverage on my tablet I appreciate it getting it on the non-print days. Still like the print version.
Seventy percent of the time that I try to view that days PD, I can only view one from days earlier. Usually one from the previous week. And, only 10 percent from the icon. I always have to go through all of the screens that open the app.
Doesn't work on s8. Log in with subscription credentials and it only puts up a window with a "close window" button in the middle. Button doesn't work and backing up only goes to the login screen again.
Great paper! Horrible app! Frequent crashes, photos do not properly render, other issues. Paper is worth the hassle, but no excuse for such a poorly performing app.
I find the app easy to use, but I often struggle to be able to read the comics. The print in the dialogue balloons is often too small.
I love the sports page. Now that I've had more experience with digital editions The Plain Dealer app He is much easier and better than the New York Times for example.
I have to uninstall and reinstall this app probably at least once a week. It freezes, pages go blank, totally glitches in other ways.
The app gives you access to the whole paper, but most days, it has a tendency to freeze up part way though the paper. The only way to deal with it is to shut down the app and open it again.
Terrible app. Have not been able to open app for four days. Uninstalling and reinstalling does not help. I think it is time to cancel subscription.
Very disappointing App. App opens and stalls on loading page and does not dependably open to the Paper. Scrap this and hire some one who can make it work.
Terribly buggy, even after improved. Can't keep it from moving vertically as it rolls from top of page to the bottom.
You have a new layout with even less news then before it is pathetic for a city as important as Cleveland.. get your act together or get out of the business. We might be better off with NO news paper instead of this pathetic piece of journalism we now have.
This app often crashes, is often slow to load, forgets login data, and sometimes does not display content without restarting.
E-edition is terrible! I must wait a long time for articles to load as I scroll down. This needs to be fixed on this app and on Windows 10 in tablet mode.
It has gotten better. When it reloads, it keeps me on the same issue where i left off. It loads a little faster than it used to.
I can no longer access the Plain Dealer after this latest app update. The PD is no help. Will be canceling my subscription.
App. works, but can be slow and still has bugs. Well last update ended all funtionality!
I find the app difficult to open. Please fix that. That started 2 weeks ago...Prior to then it was fine...you changed something.
Can just drop in the middle of reading, losses connection then offers me options I haven't asked for. Very spotty.
The app does give you the newspaper but is very flaky , it keep shutting down & constatly needs restarting.
Lately, when I open the app it doesn't open in the newest addition and I have to go through additional, not obvious, steps reach the latest issue.
I prefer a paper newspaper like my Plain Dealer used to be. Since this is how it is nowadays, I have to adjust.
I have not experienced any of the problems others describe. Some of these are from older reviews so probably fixed now, but I've been using the app for as long as the PD has offered it, and don't recall experiencing any of these problems. However, since the last update, none of my devices - a PC and 2 different Samsung Galaxy tablets (S2 & S6) - open the app immediately. Instead I get a message - "You must first logout in order to access this app" (or somesuch). Kinda frustrating...
