ridiculous. when you spend $500+ on a camera specifically for the handiness of being able to transfer the photos wirelessly, but it cannot be used for the sole purpose of just that...no thanks. Not a fan of jumping through hoops. As of now, the app is useless as it never leaves the home screen. signing in isn't even an option. (also worth noting that I used this same app on an iPhone with no issue, and they get continuous updates as well - no Google update since 2017!?)

This used to be the best app. One of the main purposes of the app was to allow me to share my photos. This option suddenly is no longer available at through the three dots on the top right-hand corner. It is available through imaging edge, however the photos are not organized through that app. Further, it's only the pictures that you have recently loaded that allow you to share.

Absolute garbage. The previous version was easy to use, to the point AND actually connected to the Sony camera. This release is a joke. I can't see where to connect the camera. Given only the option to take a photo (with my phone, not the camera) or upload a photo (from my phone). I used to be able to TRANSFER photos via my Sony's WIFI to my phone using this app. But that is no longer available in this version. If you want to transfer photos from camera to phone, you need a USB cable. FIX THIS.

This app hasn't been updated in over two years. When I attempted to sign in, I got a spinning circle. It didn't stop. I went into the app settings and cleared the data storage and nothing changed. I uninstalled the app and reinstalled the app. Still, nothing changed. Sony makes great televisions, great cameras, and great gaming consoles. This software, however, is a disappointing, frustrating, and massive failure.

The app used to be great with direct photo transfer between camera and phone, part of the reason why I chose my Sony camera. Now it is not even an option with this app and the purpose has completely changed into a "photo sharing" or album type app. Completely useless, and frustrating. The 2nd transfer app that was created by Sony doesn't even connect to your camera... Where is the wireless transfer feature for my camera?? Can we have the old app back? Uninstalling.

I've used this a lot to view pictures from my mobile on my Sony Bravia. Even though for some reason I'd have to re-take photos as a screenshot it was worth it to use my TV screen as a photo frame. Now an error message appears on my set about being unable to connect to the server. I think this is as a result of discontinuing the service on Android TV but it's a crummy way of doing it especially for people who've bought into this way of doing things as a facility provided by Sony.

Terrible cloud! It affects the resolution of your photos. I've lost a heap load of photos because of uploading on here and then deleted original photos! Having a sony camera, they make you have to use this to upload photos to your computer. You'll be better to take out the sd card and use the card reader on your computer. And now I can't even download photos off the cloud, where you used to be able too. Absolutely rubbish and a waste of time! I am completely unhappy, thanks Sony for nothing!!

This app is a security risk. It requires you create a login, and asks for your DOB. Don't enter a valid DOB, there is NO POSSIBLE reason Sony needs this. Also,, if you expect this app to be something you can start and use quickly, you'll be seriously disappointed. You'll have to scan a QR code, create a login and then login to use it. It's just way too many steps. You have to set up well in advance. If you change phones/tablets, you're starting over. A cable remote is an easier option.

Changed for the worse. The original app was perfect for what I needed I could use it to remote control my a7riii could make in camera adjustments from my phone, iso, time release everything. This absolutely useless. The removed all of the functionality completely and made something that has literally zero function.

Sony, why did you rename the old version of this app to the inscrutable "Imaging Edge Mobile" and replace it with a useless app? That too without telling us. I had to search hard to figure out how to transfer images from my Sony camera, which has been working fine for so many years and suddenly vanished. You must have lost lots of customers as a result of your stupidity.

The app and service have promise. It is fine for small numbers if photos but after you get large numbers of photos on the service it starts to become very hard to find the photo you are looking for. The app really needs some way to search by file name and filters for the date taken. Currently if you know the photo you are looking for was taken in the mid 90s you have to spend a long time scrolling through other newer photos.

Horrible experience. Have been unable to log in for two days straight. Hate that users of the camera are forced to use this app/program. It was a bummer to discover after the purchase. I want access to the files without having to go through a proprietary program. Camera is great. Software stinks.

Lau. T. May 18, 2020

Disappointed, really badly actually. The old app was so much easier to use, I have a camera from about 6 years ago and wanted to upload photos on my phone. I'm not able to, because its just not to connecting to the app the way it used, I have no idea how fo actually connect the camera to the app now and its beyond ridiculous. Please sort it out!

My Google Pixel and A7iii will not tether, tried QR code, NFC, and password and they've all failed. Both devices seem to think they're connected, but nothing works. I tried reinstalling everything, clearing caches, restarting, and refreshing the wifi. Even the pointless troubleshooting page won't load because my phone still thinks it's connected to the camera WiFi which overrides the 4G.

1 star because this is trying to be a photo sharing/storage app. but it's a bit controlling and really rather rubbish. What you are probably looking for is the app to download photos from your camera which used to be Playmemories Mobile. That functionality is now in the "Imaging Edge Mobile" app - go download that one and you'll be back up and running.

I don't know why Sony decided to change the app. Used to be: I'd download onto a new device with no login information, then since the app is using the wifi, it would connect via wifi to the nearest device. Never had any problems. Now fast forward a year or two: I cannot log in and they say that I do have a connected email account. However I tried to enter my birth date as well as my security question, and both are wrong. Used to have amazing functionality. It's a shame.

i have had this app for 4 years and it was amazing and i could access my photos on all my devices. This most recent update was the worst. i can no longer even get into the app to see my pictures and it keeps saying too many people are accessing it. i really miss the versatility of this app. developers please change it back! edit 6/22/19: I'm glad they fixed the sign in issue. but now i can't download my pictures from the app. This is so sad. 2 stars down to 1...

Sig. S. Jun 2, 2021

Autofill resets the menu process to first step, interface to my camera is not intuitive (or simply manageable), the majority of the screen space is to sell games, sign in does not sign me in durably, and the camera itself requires the app to connect to my device. In short, it is an unnecessary proprietary software between me and creating content.

And. M. Feb 11, 2020

One of the most frustrating app experiences I've had. It is designed to transfer photos taken by your camera directly to your phone. I have tried countless times even with watching some YouTube tutorials and the app just doesn't work. Sony should spend more money on their app development if they think they sell their Sony a7iii for over $2,000. Very dissatisfied and disappointed.

Gre. B. Jun 10, 2019

Why the cloud thingy? I just want to transfer photos from the camera to my phone, via WiFi. I already store my photos in Google drive and won't be forced to send them elsewhere. Really want to keep it simple. Uninstalled. Now reverting to cables. Another nail in the coffin for this technology.

Gar. P. Mar 20, 2019

For what seems like months now i've been unable to log in, like so many have encountered, message saying too many people using the service or the loading wheel. I thought Sony dropped support of the service & that I lost my pics. till just a few mins ago when I went into my app settings & cleared data/cleared cache on the PlayMemories app. started the app up again and got to the sign in and what do you know, it worked! I finally was able to log back in after not being able to for a long while.

Joh. G. May 22, 2019

i have a Sony digital camera and used to use this app to transfer photos to my phone to share before getting prints. app won't even load up after signing in just a loading wheel that never competes. From other reviews it sounds like even if i could get it to finish signing in i still wouldn't be able to get photos off my camera. extremely disappointed.

Mac. J. Nov 10, 2019

I've never been able to use this app, as it always stop at connection stage. Once you connect you phone to camera's WiFi, it's run the circle, run and run and run... Useless. Looks like Sony, can't be bother with customers who's spend hundreds and thousands of £££ on their products just to find out most of futures that required WiFi connections doesn't work. My next camera won't be Sony.

Dan. H. Jul 22, 2019

If I could give this app 0 stars I would. I used to be able to connect my Sony CyberShot camera to my phone via wifi. It was quite straight-forward and worked. This new version does not offer this option. You can only share images from your phone and NOT YOUR CAMERA. THIS APP IS A WASTE OF TIME IF YOU WANT TO SHARE PHOTOS FROM YOUR SONY CAMERA TO YOUR PHONE.

Tif. Mar 24, 2020

I used to use this app to transfer pics from my dslr to my phone. Used to be very easy, then the new version came out. I had to give out a bunch of private info to make an account, and when the verify email link finally worked, the app did not. It can't find my camera, can't connect to the wifi, nothing. Terrible

JSK. M. Jul 19, 2021

This app is completely useless. Just like the desktop version. I spent 4000€ on an A7S3 and I can't even import my videos. It says I need to sign in and register my camera for full support, when I try to sign in, the app crashes and everything starts from zero. Thanks for nothing.
