The PlayOn server ran great on my media server and the PlayOn app ran great on 8 different smartphones for years, but recently it started freezing would not run at a functional level, no matter how much I configured, reinstalled, and even after I restored the server back to a March 2019 disc image from an external RAID array. Thankfully the Server Cast app runs extremely well with the media server that is native to Windows 7 Ultimate. I already uninstalled PlayOn for the last time.
Used to love this app, so much so I bought the lifetime license for my PC. My personal computer was the server and would record the shows while I was sleeping, then I would watch them on my phone after work. Now that my personal computer has Windows 11 on it, however, PlayOn wants $5/mo or $40/yr to run, essentially, the same software on my computer to record video to my storage. Since almost all of the services you can record from already have monthly fees, I'll just watch commercials for $40/yr.
While MediaMall keeps the Windows desktop version regularly updated, this Android app sorely needs attention. No notification shade player controls, no way to cast content with AdSkip, and often drops the Chromecast connection. Even when you can connect back with Chromecast, it initiates a brand new stream starting the media file over from the beginning. Come on MediaMall. It's been over two years since this app last updated.
Really bad. I saw great reviews online so decided to give it a try. Didn't realise how much hassle it is. My pc has to be on constantly for this app to work. None of the videos work. Once one looks promising something goes wrong (like telling me I'm in the wrong area or shutting off). To use some things you need to sign in. What's the point of this if I already have an account?
No longer supported. This app was last updated in 2016 though the desktop client has been kept up to current date. When you try to use this app to stream videos to your phone it tells you it needs Adobe Flash Player, a software that no longer exists. Apparently everything is going towards their new Cloud record software. It's a shame as I bought a lifetime license years ago and now its basically useless for me.
it's good and it works but it lacks a key feature.... the ability to RECORD ALL while in a television series folder. it's quite cumbersome to have to back out and select each individual episode, especially when you've been spoiled by the desktop app! add that and I'll give it that final star!
I've not had any issues. not quite sure how it works because I'm not in the same network as the computer I'm connected to and it could use some settings on the app, but overall a great job! I've not had any issues that others have said. Also, is this still being developed? no update for 3 years!
doesn't go full screen and is a little buggy in terms of freezing when scrolling the app. ad skip is great and remembering where you were is good. however you do need to press back for it to remember where you were otherwise it starts from the start.
Seems to work. Had network issues due to split vpn at home. server and mobile not only have to be on same wifi BUT must have same external IP. However after intial discovery it seems to work fine and my mobile could use vpn again or any isp really. i bet when my isp changes dhcp ip of router I'll have to re discover server from app but it isn't so bad if you understand what it is looking for.
I love being able to watch video files from my PC to my phone. However, it loooks like y'all stopped supporting this app... I can't find it on the playstore until I get the prompt on the app that the latest version of Android isn't supported. Please update this app
I like the concept, but the execution is terrible. Slow, buggy, and crashes. Stops working more often than it works. Wishing I hadn't spent the money on lifetime access. That's only good if you can actually have access.
Biggest fan of PlayOn. the app worked great for the longest time. having the ability to record at home PC or cloud, and then view wherever I am is awesome.
Very poorly done DVR. Guide is terrible and it won't record over half the shows I've set up in it. Needs a ton of work to work correctly. Looking elsewhere
I was so excited to hear about this app, but have been so frustrated by it. I had nothing but problems getting the installation on my home PC to work and now the app doesn't work properly. The customer support is horrible. Don't waste your time or money.
Love this app, it makes playback from a remote computer a BREEZE! Wish PlayOn would bring this back or add it's functionality into the cloud app for those of us who don't have a cloud account
Does not work with Android 9. Says I need to have Adobe Flash installed. App hasn't been updated in 3 years. I'm a lifetime Playon Plus subscriber does this mean you no longer are working on the app?
this app worked beautifully up until today . now all of a sudden it tells me i dont have playon on my computer. so i updated playon on my computer but it still wont let me play anything.
Awesome App! There was a slight glitch at first but thanks to an awesome rep named Skip I received my credits. Thanks for the awesome customer service!
love the app, but doesn't work with the newest android update so update on the issue apparently if im at home I can stream video to my android phone but if I'm not on the same wifi I get a message that flash player is required
The app says I need to download a new version. Apparently Android 9 isn't supported. It also says I need Adobe flash.
No longer supported or works for lifetime members using the desktop app. Too bad, used this for more than a decade
One of the best apps out there for a home media server. Easy to use and totally works.
Useless. Says " stopped working" on PC. Cannot get it to work
I've been using PlayOn for quite a while now. It has its quirks, but it gets the job done. Unfortunately, I'm lowering my rating to 1 star until it's updated to work on Android 9 Pie. Evidently, PlayOn requires the now defunct Flash plugin in order to play videos locally. I'll be happy to raise my rating back up to 5 stars once the app is updated. Luckily, I'm still able to cast videos even though I can't watch on my phone, so it's not a total loss.
