Plex for Android

This app has an annoying tendency to suddenly stop working. I often need to empty my cache or, even worse, uninstall and reinstall it entirely. I have no idea why this happens and it's very frustrating considering that it's a paid app. The cast feature (which is the only reason I downloaded the app) often displays a "Sorry something went wrong" error even though it worked the last day. And, finally, the worse is that the Plex team doesn't seem to care about these issues at all.

I don't know who is the intern who wrote the sync feature, but he somehow managed to make one of the worst download manager I know. Progress bar gets freezed at 50% despite the download going on and taking place. Files are sometime shown as synced, while the download is still going on. The storage usage is badly tracked, going from 0.7GB to 2.8GB in half a second, then back at 0.7GB when paused, while I can see the app taking 2.8GB in reality. You really need to rewrite that feature...

Good and Bad. The great thing,is,that you can watch alot on the app,and menu is offering the best selection of movies and series you do not see on other app. The worst thing,is the repeated publicities. The same one all over and over... It is frustrating to see the load ,slowing the server and so much ,that the app disconnect. It use to be my first app to open. But now,it is my second choice.

The latest version (can't name it because I can't find it) is awful. My primary use case, streaming music from my computer, now requires digging down through multiple levels ... and it never remembers it or provides a shortcut. Also, most thumbnails are blank.This is so awful that I have to look for an alternative. Unacceptable.

Love Plex and this app! Easy access to all my media from one place on any device be it my TV or mobile phone. Works like a charm and does wonders with metadata taking out the headache of having to present everything nicely yourself! My only gripe is that sometimes after a server upgrade, there can be a chance that the plex apps (TV or mobile) will not establish a connection again until I reboot. Aside from that, it's given a new lease of life to downloaded content from my hard drives!

I enjoy Plex Very Much. Love the new Free Live TV options and movie options that they provide in addition to my own video library. I do wish there was a way to add movies to genres. I may have missed this feature but my home screen has way too many options with the way I went about doing this.

Plex is a great service in concept, but they refuse to improve on the myriad of bugs you experience while using the app to stream music over a private server. The app crashes daily while streaming music. If I turn the screen off on my phone, music stops playing. Music lags when streaming and there is lag when pressing player buttons. Plex cares too much about expanding the movies and TV shows you can stream, and making the app look pretty, won't fix actual problems with server streaming.

The mobile app Ux is frustrating. If you swipe/hit back at any point it closes so you must always use the menus. Want to delete locally downloaded media? Hah. Good luck. It's easier to uninstall & reinstall. It drives me nuts. Just let me delete something easily when I'm looking at locally downloaded media, is it so hard??

Since the change to allow streaming platforms to be viewed from this app the app no longer works for longer then a day without crashing. Now they have updated the Logo and I have only been able to use the app for an hour out of 24 and now it will not play at all. The system will either error out or reload to the home screen. I have removed cache lost downloads unistalled and reinstalled the app with each supposed fix making the app worse. Best part is the only support you can get is a FAQ.

This is just embarrassingly bad. Since they've updated the app, they've made it as hard and pointlessly confusing as possible to try and hunt down your TV shows and Movies from your server. The UI is horrible, it used to work fine, now I can't find a single thing I'm looking for anywhere.

1- 45 min show and so far 3 140second ads. Not even half way through the show. Capital one. Bounty and mountain dew. I refuse to use or purchase these products. Because they run these same 3 ads constantly and often ruining any attempt to watch a decent movie. × I was in middle of ad when I left this comment. I returned to my movie for 2 minutes and it was interrupted again right away with the same boring ads. Remove the ads and or put a skip button immediately or will uninstall your app. Waste

Needs improvement in the player on Android especially where the Display Mode should have more better and refined options to support the video scaling, resizing or cropping options like in VLC or on MX Player. Also the audio seems to be little on the lower side when playing a video. When playing it normally without Plex the audio is normal and fine.

For user friendliness and reliability, I give Plex 10/10. I really enjoy the flexibility of Plex. We have a mix of devices and Plex is the only app that works on everything reliably. I have used other apps but they are not as user friendly and all the entertainment in the world is useless if your significant other can't figure out how to work it.

Plex has become junk. While the media server is working fine, the issue is with the Plex client for Android (specifically Android TV). It was working okay until around two week ago (occasional crashes have been the norm the past 6 month), but in the past two week I have issues with starting it (shows the Plex screen and then reverts back to Android TV default screen) and only a reboot of the TV will help (no update on Android TV for the past 4 month). Even after restarting, I need to uninstall the Apps and reinstall it to get it working. Currently doing this every day. I have the PlexPass since they introduced (and used Plex for the past 10 year), but in the past 12 month it has become painful to use the client (including the new download/syn feature on phone/tablets that doesn't work half the time). I understand that they want to monetise the platform, but if you App doesn't do it's basic thing (work without crashing) there is no point on continuing trying to monetize this because nobody will adopt it.

Great app but PIP stopped working after OS update. 5/18/22 Update Changing review from 4 to 2 stars Plex is going the way of iTunes. Since streaming has been added stability and accessibility of files on my server are erratic. Extremely frustrating. Ability to upload/sync pictures from phone to server has been eliminated. They're adding bells & whistles at the expense of the foundation.

I don't know what they did with the recent update but Plex never works anymore. It's a miracle if I can get it to play on the first try. It struggles to connect, loads the video forever, and then eventually I just have to unplug every device I have and hope that that'll fix it.

I use this on nvidia shield to play content from Synology and it gets worse with every update. I go to moves, folders, click on a folder, and there's nothing in it. Try again. Go to movies, folder, click on a folder, (after several attempts) display the titles, click on a title, then get booted back to the start. (dinner getting cold) Go to movies, folder, have all the content available, then play the movie. yea. But, wait. There's more. Randomly it would rename a movie, change all the metadata to some vintage old movie, forcing me to manually re-enter the poster and background several times to get it to "stick." If I do manage to watch all the movies in a folder, there is no "select all" button. It's infuriating. I want to "select all" then mark as "unwatched." Nope. I can mark them all as watched but not the other way around. I found a way to cheat it - by hiding the folder, re-scanning the library, then re-adding it. That marks everything as unwatched but risks it changing all the names, metadata, poster, and background again. THIS is the most annoying app I own.

It seems the developers have abandoned the music server aspect of the app. It is terribly, incorrigibly buggy. I always hold out hope for the latest update, but it still constantly drops Chromecast music casts and has lots of trouble streaming music when using cellular data. If it actually worked reliably it would be a fantastic app.

Watching video, there are no problems. Sound is always good, it just has a few bugs. I'd been having trouble with music and audio playback, but have discovered they make a dedicated audio player called Plexamp which fixes most the issues. It's a good app, it shows movies and stuff best if you have the whole package and get the home server software for your computer too.

App is serviceable. But while playing a series, the next up window now cuts off the information for the next episode. It's not designed well in this regard. It's like zoomed in or too far to the right to read and it's just an odd choice that I can't seem to find a way to change. Otherwise app works as intended. I would like it to not force my phone into landscape orientation though, like on iOS if I'm holding my phone upright, the window shrinks like it does for YouTube.

Update 11/12/21. Literally just moving the time in the video causes it to start fast forwarding playback and will only resume normal playback speed if you play video from the beginning and don't skip forward at all. It does this on the galaxy note ultra 20. Update 2/7/22. This has still not been resolved. How can you not have this fixed? The video can't sync if I move the time at all? Come on now. These are early 2010 problems that we can't apparently get right. Update 4/3. Still ongoing........

Can no longer rewind after latest update. Skipping back just results in infinite buffering. Going to revert, argh. Glad to see you're working on a watchlist. Hopefully it will sync across devices. (All in one sounds interesting too.) The development direction has for a long time been in the direction of new features that can be monetized, like Plex content. Fine, but please put some development effort toward improving general stability and squashing old bugs before introducing new ones!

I've been using Plex for several years now, long before they had all the new upgrades because even back then I thought it was a great program!! Now they finally have a Roku App!! I didn't mind too much back then before the Roku app, yet still I always had to mirror cast or use the HDMI to play programs & movies from PC to TV. Now, I'm even much more impressed with how much more they've done to improve Plex & how much more the Plex app can do!! Keep up the Good work Plex!! Thanks!!

I installed this app because it had a movie I wanted to watch to see if I should buy it. It continued playing related movies, which I was ok with. But the longer it ran, the LONGER the commercials became and the less movie time between ads. Bottom line -- some decent movies, WAY TOO MANY ADS. This will never be my first choice for a movie I can find ANYWHERE ELSE. Crackle and Pluto are just as bad. I recommend TubiTV, Youtube Movies if you don't want to be tortured by long ad breaks.

Sometimes mistakes songs as videos. When syncing using a paid subscription, audio quality is significantly reduced. Playlists have been wiped! Sometimes won't play simple MP3 files, sometimes will play that same file. Podcasts will download again after deletion, no way of stopping it. Randomly crashes. Can't play movies with DRM, which is all purchased movies. Plays episodes out of order.
