Update: thank you! I followed your directions as I have a note 10+ and it works as well as it ever did! Thank you for leading me to your help section. BTW it was the last reccomendation that fixed the problem. I used to love it but now my listening experience stops when my phone screen turns off. I've tried fixing this in the phone settings and what-not but it's incredibly aggravating to have to constantly touch the screen to keep it on.
I've loved using this app and have had it for a few years! Startung today a podcast will stop playing unless I have my phone open. I like to click play and lock the screen, but within a minute it'll stop playing and then I'll pick up the phone and it'll play again. I checked my phone's settings and permissions but I can't imagine what's causing this error. It is incredibly annoying and not usable like this.
Had nothing but good experiences with this app until recently. I hit play on a podcast and put my phone in my pocket and 20 seconds later the podcast stops playing. I have to take my phone back out, open my lock screen and the podcast starts playing again. Rinse and repeat. Its not a buffering issue too as it shows the next 10-30 minutes are already loaded. Does this with podcasts Ive downloaded as well as ones im streaming over data. Extremely frustrating.
It seems like it never actually downloads podcasts. It needs a data connection to play any podcast. No way (apparently) to download and play when you are out of range. So, you pay for a podcatcher, and they are mining your data, too? Sometimes plays in the background ignoring all controls... No way to stop it. Gonna check out podcast 2.0 apps.
I don't normally do reviews, this is my first. I have to say that I love this app! I recently tried a few different podcast player apps because I tired of the ads in the one I had been using. The main thing I love about this one is the seamless transition between the Windows player - when I'm at home, and the android app - when I'm driving. It knows where to continue playing which is fantastic. The ability to make playlists is great too for listening to podcasts that are of short duration - then can be combined. I have no problem paying what they charge for this app.
Great for playing & managing podcasts once I've found them. But search feaure could use a lot of improvement. There are so many podcasts out there we need ability to specify exact phrases, exclude terms, & sort results. Example: when I'm looking for a podcast titled "chain reaction" I want exactly that phrase. I don't want anything about supply chains. There are a lot of both out there, & when I can't sort those mixed results it's even harder to find what I'm looking for.
Been using this app for years and loved it until I got my Galaxy S22. 20 seconds after the screen turns off the audio stops. Upon picking up my phone it starts back up. It doesn't do this with my music app or any other app. Customer support was less thank helpful, stating that it is a battery optimization problem that they can't work around. Now I have to find a new app.
OK guys I don't understand all the hate. I love this app! They have all my favorite podcasts, it doesn't freeze or pause, and I don't have to download anything! People are complaining about the search bar but literally I searced up my favorite podcast, Dream Breachers, and when I typed it that was the first thing that came up! No bugs in the system and absolutely WONDERFUL! The audio played wonderfully, not buzzed out or hard to hear, unlike other apps I have used. 10 out of 10 would recommend!!
This is the best podcast app. Lots of good functions. I'll definitely get the plus subscription to help out. I also like that it's not a limited app on a free version, which is a big reason for me to want to contribute to the devs! Additional comment: I sent them an email with some suggestions and they are amazingly receptive to contact and feedback.
If it had playlists would be 5. Filters aren't enough, I need a way os customizing a playlist, adding individual episodes. If pocket casts had this feature it would be perfect. I've been using for a long time, always trying other players to replace since I want this feature, but I stay with pocket casts because of other features like being able to upload my own files.
I have used this app for probably 10+ years at this point I believe. This app is worse in almost every single way today than it was 2-3 years ago. This archive system is horrible. I cannot globally tell the app to only keep at most 1 episode of every podcast. The podcast search is inexplicably slow. The changes that were made in the past make the app worse in almost every way.
Why is it so difficult to get to the next episode of a podcast. Seems like that should be extremely easy to do but it requires stopping the playback of whatever podcast I was listening to last week with 1 minute left in them, then clicking into a menu to find the podcast, opening the link and then finding the next episode. This is basic UX.
Great app that I think has the best layout but lately it has started pausing whenever the screen goes dark. It does not happen all the time and I've tried turning off battery optimization and adjusting the power modes. Nothing has worked. Pixel 5
This app is super well-well designed, and I've spent 255 full days listening to podcasts on the app. Which is why it is so frustrating that there are *still* so many bugs after the redesign. You'll hit roadblocks of episodes that have not been properly downloaded, and which give you no option to download them. So it just stops your whole stream. You have to go look for the specific episode in your feed of 100s to redownload. And the search function is a joke, among other things.
Paid for this and now it's free. Podcasts marked as listened keep showing up as unlistened. I mark them as listened/archived. Next morning they're back. Also, tile order is not persisted in the cloud. If you reinstall the app, chance devices, or access from the desktop/windows 10 app, podcast subscription tile order must be reconfigured. Listened podcasts are resolved, but feed is slow to update. Tile order is still not resolved.
I used to really like this app but lately it's had more and more problems playing audio. I click play, nothing happens, after a second it switches itself back to the pause symbol. I'll find something different. Edit: Playing with battery optimization didn't help
PLEASE make an Android TV version of the app. I now stream most of my media through the Google TV. For now, I can still chromecast the app from my mobile devices, but having support for Google TV would allow a user to play podcasts right from the Google TV. No phone or tablet required and subscribers to the service would still pay for their account/content management, etc.
The search function is painfully slow at times, but that's really my only complaint. With Acast shutting down I needed a new app. This one frankly has even more features. Being able to manually sort my subscriptions is very nice.
Best Podcast app out of many that I have tried. Ive used it on Android, iOS, Chromebook, Windows, phones, tablets, laptops. It is faultless, responsive and simple to use. The usage instructions could do with a clearer rewrite, but it is overall an excellent app.
For God's sake when will you give us an option to group podcasts???? I have over 120+ podcasts and they are all in the same place. It feels cluttered and frustrating. Please give us an option to group podcasts into Movies, Music, Sports, Science, Politics etc. 🙏🙏🙏
Love it! This has been my go-to app for podcasts for a few years now. Lots of customizations. Easy to understand interface. Support via email is very good even for the free version. I use it on all of my android devices.
Edit: reduction to two stars for search function being so bad. I'm searching "American Indian movement" and it gives me This American Life ffs. Original review: Pocketcast searches miss half of what I look for. Added a star to account for the tip in dev comment below, but it's weird that podcasts that have been live for quite a while are unfindable on Pocket Casts. Would be great if adding a RSS manually also submitted it to the /submit link in comment instead of adding a second extra hoop.
I'm feeling stupid. I registered. I have imported all my podcast from podcast addict. I then had to go on each to get the one I want to download. Then I'm stuck. No play button. Is there a way to set a playlist or something like ? What are filters ? Normally a podcast app has 2 major features subscribe and play. If the second is hard to find, it's no worth using it. No ?
