Pocket Plays for Twitch

The app is a really good replacement for the normal twitch app, especially with the ad-free feature. However, I would like the app to give more attention to VODs. Some features should be implemented for the VODs, The chromecast feature doesn't work. I'm not quite sure if it's just me or not, but I'm unable to use this for VODs. It would also be very nice to have the chat history as well, just like in the twitch app. The FFZ add-on is a nice addition as well, would prefer it to the BTTV. I will give this a 5 star-rating with all these points mentioned, looked at and implemented.

Recently the streams have been weird. I can hear the audio of the stream continuing, but the video is frozen. The commercial break at the start is very annoying. Lastly, please make it, so the chat is fully visible. In landscape, the names and messages of the people in chat are cut off when they get too close to the edge between stream and chat.

An overall solid alternative to the official twitch app with some room to grow. Overall happy with my experience but there are big Q.O.L. improvements that would make the experience much better. My biggest issue is menus not working if my phone is tilted at all, screen will go to black trying to open a stream. Once you get a stream running, it works great. I love the sleep timer, ability to log into my account, and no ads!

It used to be a good app, as twitch's was not user friendly; however this app isn't perfect either. It has an unwavering number of bugs, sometimes forcing me to reopen streams or vods several times for them to play, and it too lacks many QoL improvements I was hoping for in a Twitch alternative. Now, especially since twitch has skip-forwarding, I feel that it is no longer an improvement over Twitch.

It worked well for awhile, but as of last month I have been getting "commercial break in progress" at least 3-4 times before the stream begins. So it'll be about 45+ seconds of watching that commercial break in progress screen on top of the stream randomly going into that screen mid stream. Video on the streams pause, but sound is still in sync. So I can hear stuff that's going on, but the video is frozen. It unfreezes after like 30seconds to a minute, but it is infuriating.

As long as you stay inside the app it's okay. (I wanted to use it to watch old streams) But as soon as you back out for a second and go back nothing is loading anymore and you need to restart the app. Which is too much of a hassle for me. I don't know if it's VOD only, but the videos don't load if you have the automatic quality option checked.

Generally pretty great. When casting you can choose the quality (unlike the official twitch app, which appears only capable of casting at low quality), which was why I originally downloaded the app. When on "source" quality though I experience audio issues where every 2 seconds or so audio drops for maybe a quarter second and comes back. Constantly. Still better than the official app though.

Works okay, often claims a stream is offline, but the stream worls fine on other apps. Unlike the Twitch app, using the chat doesn't cover the stream, which is nice. The option to quickly see the chat on horizontal mode is also neat. Oh right, and the stream delay is usually pretty high, and once the stream starts buffering, it'll usually just keep on buffering until you close and reopen the stream. There's also a limit to how long comments you can make, for whatever reason. RIP being ad-free

VODs freeze, live streams freeze, app itself freezes. Tried the playback quality fix, switching from auto to anything else, and it crashed the app. App worked for about a month then all these problems. Seems like it happens about when I would get an ad on the official Twitch app, like every 20 mins or so on a VOD. Can't search anything either because the thumbnails and text don't show.

What a buggy mess. Could have been a decent alternative to the Twitch app. No accounts required, no ads so far and very easy to use. However, the app is hampered with numerous issues and bugs. Chat often stops for no reason. Conversely, the stream will often go black but the chat will still go on. The UI could use some work as well. Texts overlap each other. It feels very cluttered and outdated. The app barely works at all.

Only reason I use this app is to get around the ads. It actually plays better than the official twitch app. Today, all of a sudden, I start seeing ads. A screen pops up and says Twitch commercial break with a countdown timer in the corner. Again, only reason I use it is to remove the ads. No reason to use it now.

Hello. Love the layout of the app and the ad free part is a blessing. There are still a few things missing that I feel truly would make this a complete package. The ability to use pop-out player and an option to delay the chat to match up with the streams or have less delay on the video feed. The chat seems to be very far ahead compared to the video feed. Also, chat replay on VOD's would be amazing! Would prefer this app over Twitch anyday if these features were added.

Like many other people, download because I'm sick of Amazon using twitch as free advertising space and regret not doing it sooner. Didn't take long to update filters recently when there was a 15 second wait to access a stream, presumably after the way adverts are embedded was updated by twitch (still miles better than a 30 second advert). Great app, happy to donate when I have the funds, keep up the important work.

Absolutely riddled with bugs and UI problems on Pixel XL. Past broadcast video buffers even when on perfectly fine connection. Once the video buffers it then freezes the video in place but continues the audio, making you have to reload the video in order to continue watching. Often there will be a buffering wheel on the video that will not go away units you restart the app. "Auto" video quality never works No chat Replay No side tapping on video to skip. Video seek is very hard to use. Will update my review when I've heard a response. Thanks

This app freezes my phone maybe 1 out of every 5 times I try to open a new stream. My screen turns black, and my LED blinks on and off while the device is completely unresponsive. The only thing I can do is force a restart with the power button. Additionally, thumbnails load very inconsistently on the list of streams, as in most of the time none show up at all in the app.

The update doesnt seem to fix the problem: chat is ~10s ahead of the stream, which is annoying. If theres technical problem in syncing the two, maybe allowing users to manually delay chat will be an easier workaround. I love this app as it supports 60fps stream which is super important to me, and I'll gladly pay more ( already donated ~6 usd) to use this app.

Sometimes the Chromecast player loses video but the sound continues playing. The video only displays the bright blue Pocket Plays logo. It doesn't fix itself until I re-cast the app. Edit: issue is still present and happens consistently. Sound no longer plays when this occurs. Also no longer shows stream previews when browsing the app. Edit2: app no longer casts video to the Chromecast. It can connect but fails to show any stream on the TV.

Great app, works nearly perfectly. My only wishlist item for this app would be a 'double-tap screen sides to fast forward or rewind 10 seconds' feature while viewing saved streams -- similar to YouTube. The streamer I watch has a lot of 8+ hour streams that I watch in chunks. Navigation in videos that long usually means accidentally skipping 10+ minutes.

Supports better quality streams than the official app and is the only app that can play 1080p60 on 19 FireHd 10, but doesn't support all non source qualities. The chat takes up too much space at it's thinnest setting. The animations are smooth but they take too long and become annoying. Doesn't support pip as far as I can tell. Can't browse streams with small pip in corner this may be reason video runs better. A bit buggy. Doesn't respect rotation lock when moving through menus and the like.

The app has stopped working since like 2 months. No thumbnails, no stream names. It just shows the twitch username and half the time it's just black screen after selecting a stream. Used to be the best app for twitch now its the worst. I know it's free and all but if you want people to use your app better do something to fix it or what's the point of keeping it on play store free or not.

Good overall, but there are a few bugs on it, but what really bothers me is how bad the video (not stream) viewing experience is. They usually buffer more thann streams for some reason, and tk navigate and or skip ahead or back using the video progress bar is really annoying.

I have used this app for a long time, yet it seems like the developers are always fighting twitch in an endless battle. Twitch will update their player to make you have to watch more ads and it breaks all other platforms. It then seems like other developers have to scramble and compromise the product just to get their app working again. Again, I like this app, but really it's twitch itself that has pushed me away.

It does what it claims to do perfectly. But I fail to see how this app is in any way better than the original Twitch app. The UI is beautiful, but there is no PiP mode, no chat for VODs and even for livestreams it cuts part of the chat off in landscape on my OnePlus 6. If these features were present the app would be a really nice choice.

I would have given this App 5 stars, but it still plays twitch prime ads despite me being a twitch prime member for many years. I guess it's better than the constant 30 second twitch ads anyways... Also the sub badges only show up as one month, it is not accurate to how many months you actually have. Otherwise, great app, it's gonna take some getting used to but I think itll probably be worth it. No regular ads, and bttv is enough to get me off the twitch app tbh.

Meh Still shows commercial breaks, lacks a tap to fast forward/rewind 10/30 seconds feature. It's hard to scroll through 10+ hour long VODs. The app also lacks background play, unlike the official twitch app. Could be improved immensely, yet I've had it for months seen no improvement. 2022 edit. App no longer even works. It says twitch servers are offline or some bs when you can use the official app or go to the website. Just avoid this app all together. Wish I could give 0 stars.

2 stars. Its an amazing app and it could be 5 starts but the thumbnails for streams just don't load like 90% of the time. So it's just black background and white text scattered everywhere. If you could simply fix this, it would be a 5 star app.

This app is amazing!!! Better than the original Twitch app. It's really easy to use and is very comfortable. But I think instead of high, medium or low video quality settings, you should put the actual resolution. But other then that, it's an amazing app
