Pocket RxTx Free
This is an Android application used to remotely control several HAM radio
- any CAT enabled transceiver over Bluetooth, USB/Serial or with secure authentication over Network (with a PC component;
- multiple WebSDR servers around the globe.
Current features:
- fully control your home transceiver over Internet, including audio.
- get user customizable feedback from the radio
- Works on any Android device, including smartphones, tablets and Google TV, with a minimum resolution of 320x240 and Android version 2.1 or higher (3.1 or higher for USB support);
- Works in both portrait and landscape modes;
- tuning through the rotary knob or by directly entering the frequency from a numeric keypad (in MHz);
- Up/Down buttons to tune with a preset step which depends on the selected band;
- 16 presets (including frequency, mode, info. For each of the 16 memories all parameters are saved (freq, alias, description, band, mode, etc);
- ON/OFF button. When off, the application is disconnected from the server/transceiver;
- select band from the pool of available ones;
- select operation mode (AM/ LSB/USB/CW);
- display: SWR in both graphical and text mode;
- possibility to change application font size to match any device or taste. Font size is then stored in the config file and displayed on the startup screen at next run;
- a FN key to extend the number of memories to 16 and add future functionality to some buttons;
- 16 Memories to store frequency, mode and text info;
- work in both portrait and landscape modes;
- UTC clock included in the interface;
The application is still under development, may hang or crash without a specific reason, so please be patient and send me your feedback and, why not, rate it if you like it (or even not).

What a great app. This app saves booting up the laptop and connecting an external ariel. The audio crashes sometimes but a quick restart and it's running again. People who complain about the interface don't know much about SDR dxing.....all thanks to the developer..great job
Looking through the reviews of V3.0 of Pocket RxTx here, the outstanding problem in many of the posts is a lack of understanding of how the app works. I know we are all Radio Hams but please in this case R.T.F.M. (read the manual) before posting! Dan has developed a great product and in this (PRxTx) version you get it for free. Even the "pro" (PRxTx+) version is only 5 Euros! If your rig is not listed, RTFM, you can create your own control files with the PRO version. Dan is always willing to help. This App makes rig remote control available to "everyman" (or woman) without the high price tag of other (commercial) hardware solutions. A key point to understand is that there are two halves of this program, one is a remote control App that can control via USB, BT or Network and the other half is a client to access any of a long list of WebSDRs around the world. UPDATE: The dev sent instructions a while back on how to use the app and we're rolling! Has most all the controls you need to control your rig. Lots of fun. Lots of features. Still dont understand everything it can do yet, but it works!! (Old review): Excellent feature rich app. The one thing that I'd like to see included (or at least linked to) would be some written support for the various radios that the app supports. cant find any info on how to properly connect my Xiegu G90 to this app...
Sort of sometimes works but it messes up the settings when it connects to the IC-705. Turns display brightness to 0, audio gain to 0 and other settings like rf gain are set to 0. The app should be reading the rigs settings on connection and matching them on its display. The app should only change settings when the user changes them. It should especially not be changing things without input/confirmation from user. Just plain poor design. Would give zero stars after developer response.
Followed instructions verbatim. Im using a FT857, via Bluetooth. Although I've selected the appropriate radio, and Bluetooth shows as connected. The app still cannot control the radio. I've given up on this app, after paying for the Pro-version. And I have read through the instructions step-by-step. I can't get this app to communicate with the Yaesu. Help!
Flipping screen orientation resets bandwidth and waterfall zoom. Cant see frequency when in waterfall mode. Cant fine tune rx bandwidth, wide setting is not wide enough on bass freqs. Overall GUI is a bit cumbersome, not very intuitive. Phone back button does not work when app is active. Needs these issues fixed for 5 stars rating.
Very difficult to use. I just can't get my head round the interface it's simply not intuitive. The key bits don't make sense e.g. How to change to another station. I can rarely achieve this. So am stuck now at a picture of a radio after hours of messing unable to now get to a websdr station. Would have bought this if it had worked well. Read the manual but still no joy. Uninstalling
All i was able to do with This was to change frequency and and. Could not hear audio,which really not important to me anyway, but it will key the radio and automatically turn the radio to split mode. Oh and i was able to set power. Using a galaxy note 9. Not able to control volume rf gain/squelch. I may keep the free version so i can see what frequency my ft857d is on when i am mobile. Seems like it won't touch and other button than vfo or band switch. Paid for the pro it didnt do any more than
Great App. Love being able to tune the HF bands. There is a bit of a lag when tuning so you have to tune slowly and allow the remote site to catch up. Other then that, it woeks perfectly.
Appalling interface. Sorry. I find the amount of buttons on the screen very cluttered and the colours, while I see their intent, just make the display 'messy'. A number of less busy screens would be better IMHO. App works fine though.
This is one of coolest apps I have ever found on play. Every HAM and short wave enthusiast should give this a try. You must play with every screen option to realize its full potential, and when you do will be simply amazed!
I've always loved this app! It works 99% of the time. It makes me feel I am using a real radio. I personally have a few public live stations accesible over the Internet. Among them, the SDR Console, RC Forb, Airspy and others. The Pocket RxTx is one of my favorites. Thank you! Kb5avy
Found this too cumbersome to use and no instructions to be found. Trial and error is not my thing. Also, your APP description needs a lot of work. You spent a lot of time writing up something that tells a potential user absolutely nothing of value to know what this app is about or what it will do. No wonder they call it Amateur radio.
Glitchy, when it works it's fine, but more often than not the sound goes and everything locks up. Frustrating to use, but when it does work, it works well. Bit of a love hate relationship going on here.
Manual tuning is only thing that works with my radio. Vfo doesn't work, memories or mode selection always put radio into LSB, no matter the setting. Ptt doesn't work, filter doesn't work. Only good for manual tuning. FT100
I am so incredibly impressed with this application but I do have a knowledge of ham radios and without that knowledge I think someone would have no clue what they're doing... I wanted to update my review I was wondering is it possible if I could get my IC 7300 connected to your app and repeat I have an SDR . You did such a fantastic job on this though
Love this SDR interface . I would love to see it as a stand alone straight SDR interface for use with your plain ordinary USB dongle. All the other Android SDR apps like sdrplay are miserable to work with this one's easy No Frills no BS it just works
Hey Dan are you ever going to make it to where this works on Data because my phone has reset for the month so I know for a fact I have a lot of data, you claim it works but it still doesn't and I'm trying to be respectful but you're out of line and don't know what you're talking about when you claim it works on Data when it doesn't all I'm doing is telling you how it's working on my phone you don't know so please stop pretending you do thanks.
This is the best WebSDR reciver. I feel like I am using a real radio running on my favorite WebSDR (K3FEF). I belive its worth-it for buying the PocketTxRx pro too! 73 de ironboy36
This app does not work on my Samsung Note 10+. It worked fine on my LG-V30. It keeps saying that the web server isn't available. Can this be updated? I really enjoyed this app on my V-30
Great when used as a web receiver but after several uses it tries to run as a rig controller and does not let you reconfig it as a websdr receiver. Only option is to reload software.
Great piece of software. There's a few wrinkles e.g. audio cutting out requiring a restart, but all in all very useful.
This is nice. I am listening to a contest on 40 meters now. I dont have my 40 meter set up yet. Someone is calling Cq contest. recommended. I have a General license. I really miss contests like CQ Worldwide. With my Yaesu FT 891 and this app, I wont miss any more contests. this app is also great to see if a band is open.
In a word, remarkable. I'm a '42 yr' 'ham' veteran, with a old £20 smart phone and they run beautifully together. Thank you, Dan Toma. From an old retiree.
full of bugs. full page ads. ads cover up parts of the controls. ads everywhere and on every key press. programmer is ad crazy. won't let me set controls but will show me ads, lots of ads. useless.
Great little SDR app, which works quite well. Is the Pro version no longer available on Google Play? I can't find it.
Really enjoyable to use and the waterfall is a nice way to get a feel for how the bands are used.
Super listening device on Websdr. To anyone new to shortwave radio: You need to get familiarized with how the bands work. Some only work properly at night, some only in daylight hours. Be aware of what time it is in the country of the server you are using. Also, make sure you are using the correct band setting for the frequency you are using (USB,LSB,FM,AM,etc.) Have fun listening, and as always, read the instructions before operating!
