Love the concept, wish it worked better. I'm unable to use my "sleep timer" in my audio apps to fall asleep, because then PodAlarm won't work in the morning. If I forget to open, play, stop, the audio app before falling asleep PodAlarm won't work. So while I enjoy using podcasts to wake me up, this app could use some improvements. If it's really important that you wake up, I wouldn't trust it to this alarm. Update: the volume no longer works, so it only pays the audio at a very low level.
Good idea, but like others have mentioned it's useless because of the really slow unadjustable fade in time. It takes about five minutes before the podcast is audible. I understand if there's difficulties with getting the auto launch to work, but missing out on the first five minutes of a podcast makes it pointless. But it's so close to the podcast alarm I've always wanted! Why this isn't a feature already in podcast players or how it hasn't been invented yet... well I can only assume it's because of some massive coding difficulty.
I use this and it usually works ok, but I wish it had more options. For instance, starting the audio a minute or two rewinded so I don't miss something when I'm groggy and then nothing makes sense by the time I'm awake enough to listen. Or if that's not possible, then at least start with a standard alarm and then change over the the audiobook/podcast after a few rings. Or not having it fade-in because I can't hear the alarm until I've missed about 20-30seconds of audio.
I was very excited about this app after I found a handful of inspiring "wake up" Podcasts I couldn't wait to wake up to. The alarm never worked for me though because the Podcasts I was queueing were 3-5 min long. I didn't know what was wrong until I read a few other comments about the ridiculous 5 min lead time on the volume. What is the point of missing the first 5 min (or all, in my case) of the podcast I want to wake up to? Disappointing.
This app is essential. It works. I thought it was weird podcast apps didn't have built in alarms. But as long as podalarm exists everything's fine.. edit: shorty after i wrote this review it started malfunctioning. it would come on with the volume at 1 no matter what my phone's volume or the app settings were. Very upset
Basically I set up an alarm to trigger my audible book. To test it I set it to alarm after just a minute. And nothing I did could actually get it to press play and start the book. And I tried literally everything. And I know the bluetooth play works. Since my bluetooth can start and stop it. On top of this though the app mutes my volume when the alarm 'starts' it just sits there, remaining muted. I left it on for hours like that waiting for something to happen. I have a Samsung S9.
This used to be my favorite alarm, however recently it stopped turning up the volume, even when I set the final volume to be the loudest or my set media volume is high. I find myself walking up a full half hour after it goes off because it's so quiet I can hardly hear it. Very disappointed.
Followed all instructions... set up both audible and spotify to start at different times and nothing has happened at all. The notification says that podalarm is playing and slowly increasing volume but absolutely nothing happens. The concept is great but clearly needs some fixes.
I love the concept but I give it one star because the volume is so low even though I set the apps volume... And also my podcast or audible app volume the highest it can be..... So it just doesn't wake me up making it useless as an alarm! If you can update this to work, I think I will love it!
I like the idea and I use it daily, but just a few complaints -the volume isn't very clear when you are setting up the alarm, the only way to test it is to set an alarm and wait for it to go off -sometimes goes off even when I don't have a scheduled alarm
The alarm decreased the volume the phone is set at when the "alarm" goes off. That means that yes, it does play ok.... But you CAN'T HEAR IT. Once you fix this I think it'll be good! But for now- No.
In principle a very useful app, but frequently (despite queuing up my podcast app to begin playing at time of the alarm) the PodAlarm app does not actually trigger my podcasts to start - so it's a gamble whether or not I'll be woken or not, which means I can't rely on the app alone any further.
Great idea but needs work. it plays way too quiet my phone has 2 Dolby speakers and is loud asf but I still can't hear anything when I play a 9min audio reading no matter how I leave my phone, it should at least have an option to turn off the volume progression.
Overnight the app changes from me having set Spotify as the alarm to it replacing Spotify with Google Drive. I have no music on Google Drive so it doesn't work as an alarm. Unreliable. Please fix this bug.
Works flawlessly! Be sure to play 1. Set wake timein app. 2. Pick podcast episode you want to play as alarm in yoyr podcast app. 3 play the episode for 1second, then press pause. Thats it!! Great, great, great APP! THANKS A MILLION👍
Love this App, such a great idea and it's very easy to use. You can fit in a meditation session every morning as your wakeup "alarm".
Very good. Much easier to wake up in the morning when you don't have to turn of the alarm. Just paying attention to it until you're awake. Takes less time than snoozing as well
Didn't work Note 10, fully updated, alarm set to launch podcast addict app and it didn't fire. Tried several times. Uninstalling.
Pay attention to the popup - otherwise you might think it doesn't work, like some of the 1+star reviews here. But as long as the target app is set to play something it works perfectly!
it's great when it works... but been late many times to work because it didn't go off. i made sure it was on and something was ready to be played
Uninstalled it because it doesn't give a selection of podcasts. Only gives a choice of different apps already installed in my phone.
It can crash and not play. Check night before and download podcast to ensure it goes off.
This app doesn't even work. My alarms never go off. The volume never increases. Pointless app.
Works well with Apple Music. If there was only a way it could be made to work with Google Podcast...
I am so happy someone finally invented this, been wanting to wake up to my favorite podcasts for a while now!!! thank you!!
sisdwnly quit working. also, there was never anyway to turn off the fade on from a podcast.
I like the concept but I don't like how it gradually increases the volume when the alarm goes off and there doesn't seem to be a way to change that
Requires another application to be selected to play audio. On my android 10 it did not work.
Works as expected! Even for this phone which is running at the end of it's life.
It's a good idea but it only works half the time... I always set everything up the night before by readying audible to play and testing the alarm, but by morning it often doesn't work, not sure why! It would also be much more helpful to be able to edit the amount of time it takes to fade in volume of the podcast, as at the moment it takes way too long so that by the time the volume is enough to hear you've missed part of your audiobook/podcast.
