My only problem with this app was that it was taking so long to play the audio but since the last update it apparently has been fixed. Thank you.
Recently the app starts very slow, or not at all,and lets me stare at the green background stupidly. Any bug?
I have only two problems with it. Firstly, It does't have pronunciation for the vocab separately (at the header). Secondly, there is no option in the setting to select only one audio to be played for exampled sentences, every time I have to choose among those 3 options appeared with pop-up. I think if the first one be fixed, the second one would not be a bother.
poor usability. have you ever looked over the shoulder of users using this app? just plain simple obvious things: it often happens that I enter a search term, get translations, then I want to see the word in another language. the obvious way of doing this would be to tap on the currently selected languages and then choose a different one. but one cannot tap the languages. one has to go back. Or: I often want to see again previous translations. in Google Translate this is easy to find!
Generally a good app with reasonable translations. HOWEVER, the superimposed full-screen ads make using it a pain, better is to say unusable. I don't mind the ad banners on the results page, which are clearly noticeable and spread out through the page but not hiding the content. But the full-screen ads make it unusable for me.
An excellent dictionary showing the possible uses of words. I use this for individual words, but I still use Google Translate for sentences and phrases I don't know. One downside is that PONS has to restart every time you switch to another app, which is annoying when I'm adding a bunch of flashcards on my phone. But otherwise, really useful.
Good example of how to turn very good experience to embarrassingly bad. Was a good app before. Multiple languages support is its main strength, although some other apps show more detailed information. Now it is plagued with full screen video (lengthy, cheap, clickbait type) ads, which makes it pretty much useless for a serious user. Once the video starts you cannot close the app. Video ads put a strain on the mobile data plan, app response is getting slower.
The words and the content in context that you can find in this is great, very many given examples. I would like it to be a bit easier to use though, since it won't allow double way search in the following sense: if i want to translate a word it must be from the specified language to the other and not vice versa..
Bewn using pons for ovee 35 years. Hardcopy then. Still does a ood job for me.
The functionality of this app is great as for many languages included, good translations are given. However I suffer from the crashing issue and I have seen many other people in the comments do, so a fix to this would certainly complete the great user experience - it is good enough to keep me as a user even though I always have to open it twice, so that says quite a bit about it's usefulness...
Nice app with good examples of how to use the words in different sentences or contexts. Adds make it a bit slow, and it would be good to have the return to home screen with a more direct button instead of having to press back several times.
Good app. However, sometimes I can't find some words and I have to look in a different app.
Doesn't load instantly and some of the German pronunciations are inaccurate.
As a dictionary it's brilliant: plenty direct translations and synonyms as well as situational translations. However, the in app ads are ridiculously annoying. They randomly start playing with loud music rendering this app useless when used in the classroom. Additionally, it keeps crashing before even getting into the app.
Very helpful! With sentences as examples, and the conjugations, I like the app a lot
Great app to use in conjunction with the trainer if you want to make your own flashcards. They synchronise... across a number of devices. I upgraded to get rid of adverts and it is well worth it. The upgrade is device specific.
The app is really good! It does not fully support every language in it. There is only automatical translation for the smaller languages, but it is so good for the major languages that I still give it a 5 star rating. Still, my recomendation is: please, do your best to fully support ALL the languages that are present in the app!
Too many ads soo bad for working on the translator
*Excellent* dictionary, terrible app. Just use the website. The app is slow and many times non-functional. The only way to pay for an ad-free version is to opt for one of the expensive subscriptions. When I buy a dictionary I should own it, it's not a service that needs to be continually renewed.
Great translator, it met my expectations and I use it to translate between a vast array of languages. It has a personalised display and the app holds distinct translations regarding a particular word or phrase. It's specifically quite useful for German. Overall, it's handy in its function.
I've been using PONS books and website to study German for several years already. They have an awesome dictionary and this app is a very convenient way to access it. The ads in the free version are not very intrusive, which is a huge plus.
Some expressions are, unfortunately, missing and the text translation is not always able to make up for it but I overall really love the App and have been using it for years.
Wayyyy better than google translate, was recommended to me by a friend who came to the U.S. to study, for both when she was learning german as a second language in her home country, and for learning English here in the states. 10/10 would recommend for practicing and for experimenting with sentence structure.
It's very nice app with an intuitive and cool design. It finds always the correct translation for each the searched word. The weak point is that not all words are included. I wish to use the app consistently without the need to browse on the internet to find the right translation.
I can't use effectively because of adds.
I am learning German as a third language and this has helped me a lot! I also know French and I use it to translate some very specific words. Other than that, I mostly use it for the German novels that I read on the daily! Very resourceful and helpful when you blank out or simply don't know a word! I use it daily for more than a year and i don't have any complaints so far!
You can not see the plural from of the nouns. And this is big disadvantage. Also I don't like how the pronunciations sound. Besides that it's a good app. But its useless for me because of the plural forms. Edit:can see the plural forms now and also the Konjugation , very helpful!
Okay search/translation dictionary, but suddenly started asking me to confirm cookie settings - which are all set by default at "always active" and which I can't figure out how to turn off, there are no buttons in the cookie settings page that work/actually change any of the settings. There are better translation dictionaries anyway.
I love this dictionary. I prefer the web app, because here I feel like there are some bugs, and when I search for a word it shows a different word, or when I select it, then it goes to a different word.
