It works, and fairly well with a good connection and the right settings. You get 50 commands per month, then you have to pay $9.99 per year which isn't terrible. Setting changes are needed to keep it from failing commands which seem to be included in the 50. Should display how many are left on the free version. Uses pop-up ads instead of banners and no power button so the remote UI is unusable. Would pay if the commands were shortened like "Alexa QR turn on TV." Too wordy as is.
UK review. It works once set up, it works quite well when you learn whst you've got to say. You only get 50 trys a month with free version It's quite clunky, "Alexa, tell Quick Remote to start Prime Video" it then says something like, "Sure, starting Prime video", it repeats the command. Whilst insee why this is done id like to be able to turn it off as it does get quite annoying, especially if you tell it to go, down, down, left, right, select, select, pause. Routines eould be a nice addition.
This app is Awesome !! I bought a new TV and was saddened that I had to use multiple remotes with it. Stumbled upon quick remote and it totally revamped my entire setup and I now only need one remote (no remote if I really wanted to) to control my entire setup. It works seemlessly in all aspects. Can't go wrong with this one folks. A big thanks goes out to the quick remote developers ! I also used a tablet I have sitting on my entertainment center to do all of the work instead of using my phone
this app needs a lot of work. it cuts you off mid sentence, it crashed my Alexa app, it doesn't understand the commands and because of that, I went through my 50 monthly commands very quickly, to enter, I said OK because that's what's on the remote, but the real command is SELECT. One time, asking to enter, turned off my TV even though the TV isn't connected. Once the TV is turned off, the remote skill loses connection to the Roku and takes several minutes to reestablish connection when back on
Alexa can control your roku by linking this app but if you are using the app itself as a remote the pop up adds are heavy and inconvenient like when you are hitting the down button changing channels and it just randomly pops up when you hit the down button again now you're going to that ad kind of stupid if you ask me or genius either way inconvenient for the user. I've only started using it for Alexa and there's still a lot I need to figure out but seems to operate in that capacity.
when you use this app you can tell roku to move the cursor up, down, left, right, pause, ect. The problem is the remote on this app doesnt have a Netflix button like on the the actual roku remote. if you say "alexa, use quick remote to open Netflix" it wont. using voice commands with this is annoying but it does what it's designed to
I had this app installed for 20 minutes during which I had to switch off the "please rate us" screen numerous times. And, I applied for the full subscription. So, because of the annoyance, I'm giving 3 stars. I haven't even had time to use it let alone evaluate it. Seriously? Maybe I'll be back to give a review based on performance vs annoyance.
Fantastic app for people with limited mobility! We are so happy the developers created this, there is really nothing better in the market. Also, the monthly subscription price is very reasonable. It still needs some improvements such as adding commands that would improve user experience (i.e. 'increase/decrease volume by 4 points' 'go to channel 33' 'go ahead/back 4 channels' are a few lacking commands), but overall a solid app.
Ads, pop ups, and more ads. So far after some glitches (but no ads) from a free roku app, I downloaded this paid app... and I get nothing but ads and pop ups to rate the app! 5 pop ups to rate and 3 game ads before I can even use the search sucessfully. After every click, theres a pop up of one sort or another. Ridiculous. So here is your rating. So far nothing but ads and rating solicitations. Worse than free with the exception it is connecting to my Roku.
I got my account linked to my alexa but the app cannot find my roku tv, and every time I try to add manually, it tells me app is not working and I need to force close it. Was really hoping this would work since my echo dot will not open, play, or pause Netflix 😕 Edit: I realize now it's because I was running on 5g and almost all wifi connections need to run on a regular 2.4ghz so I swapped connections and it worked. Still not able to rename the device without a force close but im happy now!
App is horrible and using it with Alexa is even worse. With Alexa it doesn't turn on the TV, change the volume or do anything it claims to do. Completely worthless app to have. And this is a Roku TV being used and still the app doesn't do one thing it claims to do. Alexa using this app doesn't follow any commands given. If given the option go with Google Home at least it follows commands
Connection is "quick" but when trying to use the functionality the ads cover the keyboard so that the remote can't be used to complete the action. SURE remote is slower to connect but the ads do not cover the keyboard so the remote functions are still available.
very few functions actually work and require very wordy commands. Also, using the remote is nearly impossible with popup adds every 20 seconds. I cant even select a show or type a search without multiple adds popping up and blocking the remote repetedly. mostly useless.
I was going to try this app, but once I read all the issues of fighting to get a control action done, that the app is in a beta stage, that the free version limits you to only 50 commands when you need all 50 commands to do one or two actions, that if floods your phone with advertisements, and that the cost of the full version is not a One Time payment but a subscription (a disgrace, esspessially since the app is in a beta state) I immediately uminstalled it. Fix Bugs, no subscriptions!
Awful experience overall. Tried connecting to my TCL Roku TV and it shows up in the app but when I click on it it just sends me back to the remote screen and says "connected devices: 0" and when I try to connect it again the app crashes every time 😔
Really horrible app. Doesn't recognize or respond to most commands, doesnt play or pause via Alexa. Doesn't open anything on my netflix account, only pulls up the show I want to watch with a list of services that I havent purchased the show from yet. Loud and obnoxious ads play every 5 or so minutes. For the love of God, just keep your roku remote at hand and youll never have to deal with this app.
you can't use a smart TV with this app. the ads that pop up every few taps makes looking through Netflix and other apps an extremely frustrating effort in futility. This is the worst app I have ever downloaded!
Add a better description of how it works. Basically it proxies the voice request from alexa to the roku. Alexa to internet to phone, phone to local wifi to roku. Turn off sleep functions on phone to have always on. Note that you can just use app on phone to directly control roku over local wifi.
Very complicated and doesn't work very well after you turn the TV on. It also costs money and plays ads on the remote function. Essentially useless
Too many FULL PAGE ADS. Remote is great except you have to be constantly looking at your remote because you're finger is accidentally saying yes to an ad you don't want to say yes to.
seems to work about one out of every 50 attempts. usually only when the app is running in the forefront. all i want is a simple navigation capability for roku through my alexa, if i already have my phone open, then why bother with alexa?
The remote does not receive instructions from Amazon Alexa like it claims. It has no on or off button to even manually turn on the TV. I did get Alexa to turn off the TV but it would not turn it back on. It does not recognize any of the Roku apps such as YouTube, Vudu, Netflix and so on. It also does not recognize any request to scroll through any of the channels, this makes it useless for voice commands. It will however play and pause the movies once you have gotten to them but in my opinion if I've have to go through all that to get to the movie I can push one more button to play and pause.
