Quick Remote for Google Home/Assistant & Roku

Stop looking for the remote when your phone rings! Just say "hey Google, ask Quick Remote to pause the TV".

Quick Remote helps you control your Roku with voice commands! Play or pause the movie. Rewind or fast forward your favorite shows. Start Netflix or CBS News channel. Navigate Roku's menu by saying go left, right or select!

It can follow multiple commands at once and also control multiple Rokus! You can even ask for it to wait for your next command.

Use Shortcuts in Google Home app to create shortcuts for your favorite commands! Just say "hey Google, pause the TV" instead of "hey Google, ask Quick Remote to pause the TV and wait". Look for Shortcuts in Google Home app > Left Menu > More Settings > Shortcuts

This app works with all Google Home devices and with Google Assistant in any phone.

Quick Remote app in Google Assistant: https://goo.gl/sUkDGM

You will never touch the Roku remote again! No hub or additional hardware required!!

Quick Start:

At Google Home or Google Assistant:

• Say "Ok Google, let me talk to Quick Remote" to your Google Home or Google Assistant
• It will ask you to link your Google Home/Assistant to Quick Remote account:
-- When using Google Home or Google Home Mini, look for the Quick Remote link card to popup in the Google Home app
-- You can find Quick Remote in the Google Home app's left menu > Explore > Search for 'Quick Remote' > Link
-- You can also open this link: https://goo.gl/sUkDGM in Google Assistant app to link Quick Remote
• Follow the link to sign into Quick Remote using your Google account -- you will only be sharing your email for linking
• If you're having trouble linking from Google Home or Google Assistant app in your phone, please open this link using a non-Chrome browser in a PC/Mac and link using the same Google account: https://goo.gl/lGt1uO

In your phone:

• Install Quick Remote for Google Home app in your phone
• Connect your phone to the same Wi-Fi network as your Roku device
• In your phone's Wi-Fi settings set it to keep Wi-Fi ALWAYS on during sleep
• Select the Roku device you want to control in the devices menu
• Sign-in using the same Google account as your Google Home device or Google Assistant app -- your email will only be used for linking the two

IMPORTANT: Your phone's Wi-Fi needs to ALWAYS stay on during sleep for it to receive commands from Google Home and send it to your Roku. Also, if your phone has trouble connecting with your Roku then turn off battery optimization for this app in Android Settings > Battery Optimization

Back at Google Home or Google Assistant:

• Say "Ok Google, ask Quick Remote to pause the TV" -- Voila! your Roku will do as you say!
• Say "Ok Google, ask Quick Remote to go home, right, down and select" -- it will follow multiple commands at once!
• Say "Ok Google, ask Quick Remote to start Netflix and wait" -- it will start a channel and wait for your next command!
• Say "Ok Google, ask Quick Remote to switch to Family Room Roku" -- it will even control multiple Rokus!

Great idea, but trying to control a Roku TV with your Google home via quick remote is more of a hassle than it is worth. Every time you want to press any button via voice prompts, it is a two step process then times out. If you want to then hit another button, you have to go through the two step voice commands process again. I could not get my Google home to play specific channels or videos on YouTube.

It would be great if it actually worked consistently, if your phone goes to sleep or gets disconnected from Wi-Fi it is completely useless. I can appreciate the fact that obviously the software needs to be able to control the Roku on the local network but I think we need a Windows piece of software or winix piece of software to do the job and Android Device just isn't going to do it unless you have something dedicated for this purpose alone unfortunately was a waste of my time.

This app has very long google assistant commands and only works if your phone is connected to the same network as your roku device. Also, they charge you money to use it more than a little. Most importantly, now you can add your roku device in the google home app directly, so it isn't a third party service and doesn't require your phone to be there.

This app is garbage. Ads pop up constantly (about every 10 seconds), crippling the user experience and trying to direct the user to buy a *subscription* to use a TV remote. Absurd. I would be willing to pay decent money for an app that does what this one purports to do. But I cannot even evaluate how well this one works without extreme agitation. The business model is ridiculous. They effectively want you to rent your TV remote. Hard pass.

I installed it for my Roku TV and Google Home. The remote works when I tap the buttons on my phone, but it will not work with Google home voice commands. I signed in on the app to my google account, but when I try to use it on Google home it asks me to link my account to google. I then click the google email account and I get a message "Unable to link your Google account to quick remote! Please try again. I tried many times on my phone and then on my computer with the help link they gave me, but I get the same message. I wanted this so I can give voice commands, but it won't let me. I only gave it 3 stars because the onscreen remote works. I do not need this because Roku has it's own onscreen app.

DO NOT FALL FOR THIS FRAUD!!! Google Assistant/Home can already control Roku devices without sketchy third party apps, and Roku has its own remote app. I downloaded this specifically so I can warn people.

This solved all my problems with syncing roku tv to Google assistant. Roku TV is not truly voice activated, requires the push of a button on the upgraded remote control or using the app. Now I'm able to walk into my room and just tell my Google home nest what I want on my TV! Functions on TV are controlled with my voice.

the app used to work great but now it only works maybe 50% of the time. the rest of the it just asks "what is your command you can say....." and just repeats that no matter what I say. even when it does work I usually get a message saying that quick remote was unable to reach my roku ( even though it did reach my roku).

Every few button clicks gets a popup to connect Facebook, give feedback, etc. I turned off notifications and don't want to do those connections, so it just keeps popping up. Unusable if trying to scroll or use multiple clicks...

So far so good! Very basic functions but totally does what I need. Also, it lets me control my TVs with Google home assistant. Love the ability to choose between 2 Roku TVs in the same room.

it works when it wants to... but for some reason. it always disconnects and cannot find my roku. I have to manually put it in every other time. so.... DELETE. THANK YOU, NEXT.

Downloaded it to work with my Google home hub, I would tell it to open Netflix and it would go to the who's watching screen and not do anything else. Seems like a bigger hassle then it's worth. Gave it 3 stars because the remote on my phone actually worked as expected.

Jef. B. Jan 1, 2019

i expected ads. just not an ad literally every 3 seconds. Ad takes over the entire screen. small ads on the bottom are normal, not a complete take over every 3 seconds making the app useless. Uninstalled this useless app

Ads can be kinda annoying when trying to navigate but not too bad. Nice resource to have when I lose my remote. I think you'll need to buy the app if you want to control the volume.

I was really enjoying this app...until it started asking me every single time I used it to rate my experience with it. I have this app as part of programmed sequences, and now those sequences are interrupted. Here. I've rated your stupid app. Now stop asking.

Wouldn't work with Google routines, I would add the command "ask quick remote to press OK" and doesn't do it after adding to a routine but works separately just fine.

Bra. S. Mar 16, 2020

Voice controls hardly ever work wouldn't bother me so much if i had all the regular remote functions on the app itself. Why would yhere not he power or volume buttons on the app? They're the two most common buttons you'd be pressing anyways

Ali. M. Dec 2, 2018

Works great so far to link my Google home to Roku and not have to deal with the annoying Roku remote which takes over your TV everytime you go near the thing.

Mat. Mar 19, 2019

ADS GALORE! Every few clicks AD. few more clicks AD few more AD! the worst part is either you have to click X every few seconds or wait 5-10 seconds to skip ad.

Dan. J. Sep 5, 2020

Awful. Force closes immediately after setting up Roku (automatically and manually). It sees the device, then the convulsions ensue.

Cul. S. Oct 16, 2019

I just got the app and I log in to my Google account but I can't find my Roku tv. I try entering the IP address didn't work.

Does not work with TCL Roku TV, while acknowledging the commands and pretending to execute. Nothing happens to TV.

Dev. R. Jan 10, 2019

wouldnt mind seeing some updates really cool idea just needs support for assitant go, and also some general bug fixes.

Bra. H. Oct 25, 2019

I think it will be pretty cool once the help team responds to me regarding the "unable to link" message that comes right after I tell assistant to ask remote to launch Netflix or any other subsequent command

Jer. M. Nov 6, 2019

It was great for a year but suddenly today my Google assistant says "sorry, quick remote is no longer available."

Jay. W. Apr 7, 2019

Absolutely brilliant. Makes controlling TV easier with Google Home Voice Command setup. Recommended.

Kay. T. Oct 2, 2019

Serves it's purpose for the most part. No volume option that I saw yet there's a setting for volume increments.
