REALLY awesome! I hope the dev eventually decides to port all of his Quest game ports back to cardboard and Gear VR. Would much rather throw the dev a few bucks than buy another VR rig.
Overall, a really fun experience. I had so much fun playing quake in vr with this port. Crisp graphics and 60fps on my device.
I love quake but when I load the files the game would go black and nothing happens, think there's something wrong with it
where do I place the game files? cannot find that information anywhere, while I find it pretty important.
good, but need more options
can see potential but people with montion sickness dont buy got me sick the first level
This works beautifully. Paired galaxy s6 with a cheap Bluetooth game pad off amazon (matricom gpad bx for $15) and set up was a breeze. I played Quake as a kid when it first came out and this really took me back. I made it about 20 minutes before starting to get nauseated. Was just as well since my phone overheated at that time anyway. I'll definitely be back for more. Kudos to the developer.
Does exactly what it says on the tin. Fantastic. More than happy to pay only a quid for the amount of work it would have taken to port the Quake source code into Cardboard! Would cost me more than that in electricity alone... 😀 Great work - the engine runs very smoothly, even on lower spec devices.
I couldn't afford a PC back in the days of Quake. My boss allowed me to install it on his machine. I played often and stayed very late - after hours. Now with QVR I can climb inside my beloved Quake. And truly be at home. But what's a good controller to use? The 'jump' hangs me midair and leaves totally stuck. I'm using a cheap Sunpak SP-VRR Bluetooth controller. Thank you for QVR, I love you!
This port of Quake is actually really cool! The view is very responsive and it quickly pulls you into the character even though the graphics and audio are ancient by todays standards... I played with a cheap VR Box 2 (Cardboard) and a simple bluetooth controller, but it worked perfectly. The only drawback is that the shareware version of Quake doesn't have all the maps. Loved it!
I had Quaker VR running side loaded then it stopped working today. The quality of this seems to much better. Not sure if it uses the high quality texture packs by default. May need to buy the full quake from steam now!
It sorta works, I'll give it that, but it's such a cobbled together hack-job that it's mere novelty. Controller buttons are hard-code mapped to keyboard buttons. The W and S keys on a USB keyboard are hard-mapped to up and down and the left and right arrows are mapped to A and D, meaning I cannot type W and S into the console with the keyboard. There's no deadzone option, so there's constant movement/look drift with an Xbox One controller. If there is a deadzone setting, I couldn't find it without the cvarliSt command. It's a nice proof of concept, but isn't worth a dollar as it is, considering the fine source-ports available for free on PC.
If it worked with my paired ps4 controller on my galaxy 8+ and daydream headset it would be perfect, but I have to plug it in USB. Also downloaded Arcane Dimensions and copied it directly to the I'd folder with the pak files and it opened and I could move. Have not played yet. Wish me luck.
This is terrific. Quake is a game I'll never tire of and this has provided me with an extraordinary way to experience it again. Great work, thank you!
Absolutely terrifying. Quake was always a white-knuckle-ride thanks to the carefully planned suspense, ingenious map design and (nasty) surprises around every corner. In VR, it's - well, a whole new dimension. It feels incredibly immersive - this is due largely to the fact that there is no pretense at reality. This is obviously a virtual environment, blocky and pixellated, but with a real sense of dread. You feel trapped and anxious at fighting your way out; monsters are horrifyingly huge, the drops are vertiginous, and the cold sweat you feel at a door sliding open behind you, all the lights going off and a huge grunt running in at you has to be experienced to be believed. It's a great implementation and runs very smoothly. Full marks for this - it's the VR experience we've been waiting for.
Love this app, quake that still works with new devices, supports controllers nicly and has the option to play without vr mode, but i wish i could host multiplayer games to play locally
Dude it's quake in vr. It's amazing. Great job devs. I turned the field of view down and lowered the graphics. It made the game a lot better for me. s6 edge
Like many other VR things, camera is rotated 90deg ccw, causing menus to act weird. Otherwise awesome
I didn't expect to be quite as emotional playing this. To suddenly be able to gawp up at familiar architecture that's previously only been viewable from a normal perspective is genuinely marvelous. Thank you Dev.
Played on my Note 3. Not as powerful as some newer phones so frame rate dipped at times in VR mode, but still very playable. Excellent app. Do the expansion packs for Quake work on this?
Thank you for this. It was worth 5x the price. The original was one of my favorites back in "the day" and now this gives me something I can actually play and enjoy. My 37th VR app. My #1 favorite. Bravo.
Love this game, however I can't figure out how to play the full game (I have the files)
Fantastic ! The best VR game out there, simply cos its a no compromise game. its the original Quake. Just sit on a rotating chair and its the best experience on VR till now !
Amazing conversion of Quake to VR. A definite must-have for anyone with phone VR, and probably the only mobile VR experience I've tried that compares to a PC VR game. Any bluetooth controllers I've tried worked without a problem, and performance is reasonable on my Moto G6. Performance can be tweaked with quite a few in-game parameters, and most Darkplaces cvars works in an autoexec if necessary. There are many options for controls, including comfort turning or full joystick turning as well. If the game runs slowly or looks distorted, I definitely recommend trying the "side-by-side" mode. For some reason, cardboard mode looks really distorted and runs very slowly for me, but side-by-side mode looks perspective correct and isn't limited to 30fps like the cardboard mode. Flat mode is also available for if you want to play without a VR headset. Soundtrack can be added if you convert to 8-bit wav files in /id1/sound/cdtracks/track02.wav (no ogg support, unfortunately). Overall, it's more than worth the money.
