The pro version that allows backups and unlimited skips has no competition from any other music service at any price for hassle free listening. If you like the music varieties, which I do. If you're stuck on top 40, hip hop or nothing but country this is not for you.
Very disappointed with latest app update! I have used the Radio Paradise app for years and always loved the interactive features, but now they're all gone. Now the app just basically redirects you to the website. No more ability to toggle back a song or two to read or write comments, read lyrics, view ratings, etc. If these features return, I'll bump up my rating. Still, the best radio station on the internet. But the interactive aspects of the old app were part of the experience!
Needless to say that this radio station is amazing. But the app is top notch as well. The offline listening for up to 12 hours per cache block is a godsend on longer trips. Passengers often complement me on the music choice, in the worst case you can skip songs just like on the website. Have not had any crashes or issues on older Android phone.
A really great, mellow music mix. Better than every randomly-generated algorithm-based music app out there. Ad free. No pressure to contribute financially. Compatible with Android Auto. Recommended to me by a friend of a friend years ago and it's still my go-to mix when I want to be productive with background music, or I just want good vibes to chill out to.
Great music, love the app, saving playlists on the device while on Wi-Fi to be played later – priceless :D Only thing I'd like to see it so, besides skipping a song, to be able to replay one, too. The fact that they now have four streams of music to chose from is awesome, but I can't figure out why they call them "mixes" when, in fact, they're playlists! :)
The problem with the app is continual fiddling with the UI and how it works - or often, how it doesn't. I've been using the app for years, as I love RP, but with every single android phone I've owned - about 5 over that time - the cache block function is buggy as hell. Sometimes it'll work, other times I have to exit the app and maybe it'll work when I go back in. Sometimes playing the current song will magically make the 'add block' function work - almost like it's priming something. The latest app update, adding a block, gives no indication of the progress of the download, other than how many songs - which is really odd, as it counts down rather than up. I'd expect it to start at 1 song and then increment till it's done. Would be nice to have a visual clue something is happening - like a progress bar or a percentage - like it used to have. Seriously, just stop fiddling with the UI and make a decision on this already! Enhancements to the UX - absolutely - specifically around buffering and caching. You should be able to independently set whether buffer ahead or cacheing blocks uses wifi/cell data. A while back, I ended up using all my data allowance because I thought they were independent. I left a large block download running when on cell data (after leaving the house), which ate all my data. You should be able to set buffering ahead on cell/wifi seperately to caching blocks.
I love Radio Paradise hand curated fantastic music mix, and I keep on finding even more features. You can skip songs, you can have a cache to keep on when you don't have data access, it works great with Android Auto, you can choose channels, eg eclectic, and now I find that there is a thematically good slideshow on my TV. I am so grateful for the creatives at Radio Paradise!
RP is great, and the app was once really good. But with the last few updates, starting in late '19, it has progressively become almost unusable. Matthew Trow sums up the caching and UI problems that I also have. And I too have been bitten in regards to data usage for the same reasons. In addition I keep having to restart music play randomly and keep having to force stop the app. It's not apparent what the author is even trying to accomplish. It's just random incoherent changes.
Did it roll back to an older version? I updated the app recently (Google Pixel XL) and now the widget no longer has its semi-transparency (now opaque black) and I can no longer swipe to see user comments (can see lyrics/wiki page and the main player page, but no way of getting to the comments section). Also, every few minutes, there's a chance that playback randomly pauses. No reason for it. I press play and it's playing again. Very annoying to update and get a far inferior version!!
For me it is for years best station for good mix of music, but as some others I am not very happy with latest app upgrade .... it keeps cutting off stteam as well as offline listening is buggy .... the old interface was probably also more user friendly, but thats maybe just matter of to get to use to it. Anyhow there is no question about saying big thank you to Bill and Rebecca for all their excellent work! ..... so I will make a donation
I love the eclectic mix Radio Paradise provides anyway, and the app is great when I need to quickly download "blocks" of music for trips when I know I won't always be connected to WiFi or data. Minimal interruptions by the DJ, but you can tell this music is intentionally ordered and very few repeated songs. Best streaming service IMHO!
What a thoughtfully designed app! The designer has preempted everything I could want to do, and chosen useful default settings. The app is stable, reliable and easy to use. Well done, this is a much better app than many high profile companies have. Ps Radio Paradise's music can't be beaten, but I assume you know that already.
I had to change my review from 5 stars to 1. It was great selection of music before but for some time now it's just shockingly poor. Techno disco and Pop that's all you get. What a disappointment. What happened to you guys? Your choice of music was so much more ambitious and interesting before. Such a shame. Will have to uninstall it as I can't take it anymore..
Too many visual ads which usually requires a tap to move further otherwise it won't let you play the stations ...rest all seems to be okay with the app. Request the concenerd person to look into this. Thanks
For more than 3 years, I have been looking for this song called Kothbiro by Ayub Ogada. And I could not find it in my collection, where it once was. Nor could I remember its name and who sang it. Thankful now, I have unexpectedly heard it here on Radio Paradise. This radio app has such a wide variety of songs, seldom heard, or known, yet it has rare gems waiting to be discovered and cherished. I do not regret installing this app. Thank you developers for making this and offering it for free.
Wish you'd add Artist name to phone lock screen when Casting. YouTube Music does this, so it's possible. Otherwise, RP is excellent when it doesn't inexplicably pause on the Listener Supported links.
Playing on Bluetooth disables app. So requires reinstalling it to get it to work which is really frustrating. OnePlus 7t Pro. All other apps work fine apart from this. Android 11. March 2021 security patch. It shows as playing but won't fast forward, no sound playing and literally not streaming. Really disappointed.
Love the music, but lately the app crashes on startup constantly. Delete the cache and it works fine again, till next time. Reinstalling didn't help.
The unquestionably best radio station I have ever listened to. If you want to hear music you have always loved or music you will love from all over the world after hearing it for the first time on RP, this station is for you. Never a commercial or break in the music. You can post comments and read comments from other listeners, you can learn a little about the artist or the song, you can skip the song. You can pause a song, you can do everything but go back to hear a song you missed. Awesome.
Just lovely how this radio station has the 'I'm way ahead of you' with every corner you turn. Simply brilliant and complete, which includes this app. One little button I would like to see a shortcut to is the sleep button. Preferably on the main page, one click, done, sleep.
I've been listening to RP for many years. Suddenly the app has started to ask for login, I'm pressing SKIP, it asks again and again - no way to use. Now I'm trying to reinstall, and it says "your device is not supported"!! Great! So, you strike me off my favourite radio, thank you, guys.
I like the older version i'm using (3.25) a lot better (better desing, no white pages, better layout). I tried the up to date version and i don't like iy, it also feels a lot slower. If should rate the v4, i would give you 2 mby 3*, the version i'm using (v3.25) i would rate 5*. Just to give you an idea how it's not always good to "fix stuff" that does not need fixing.
Great, and large selection of varied music, some familiar and some new discoveries for me. Soooo much better than streaming services like Pandora which repeat a relatively small selection of tunes for awhile and then they disappear forever. And no adds!!!! I am happy to support rp with my donations. My only peeve is that I can't seem to turn off the app on my Pixel 3 so I fear it is using up battery even when i am not listening.
