Raiders of the North Sea

A great port of the cardboard version, especially now notifications have been fixed. Would be five stars but it takes a while to load back into a game as the game doesn't retain your game state when running in the background. This would be quicker if the opening cinematic didn't load every time the app does! Would be great to toggle this off in the options.

A very strong digital adaption of a great boardgame. It's my favorite worker placement game on digital. The animations help bring the game to life. I've played about 20 games without a noticable bug. The game loses a star for its multiplayer experience. The asynchronous times are not adjustable and just too long. This coupled with players who have abandoned their games makes for very slow game progression. I also don't see a way to friend other players if I don't know their email or friend code.

Whilst the game is really good and a great adaptation, we mainly play board games in restaurants and out and about, this means it is for pass and play and does get frequent pauses. The main issue is that if the app closes then we need to be able to continue from where we left off, however for pass and play there is no way of saving a game or continuing from an active game. I'd happyily rate 5* if it did but right now the feature is missing

Great tutorial got me started quickly , and it's a wonderful game with a decently challenging AI. However... I dropped my rating from 5 stars to 3 once I started trying to play online. The online experience is excruciating, with repeated crashes and necessary force-quits. Sometimes it takes 4 or 5 attempts just to play my turn. The friend I play with has an iphone, and has had similar experiences. So: fantastic game for solo play. But VERY buggy and frustrating to try to play online.

Great game. Excellent move from tabletop to digital. Have had no issues at all save for 1 and that was early on and that I'd click on the map button and it would open up but show no map. Would have to open and close it a few times before it would work. 1 of my favorite games and glad I can take it with me where ever I go. Good job guys. Explorers next please!!

Raiders of the North Sea is a tabletop game that has been on my list for sometime. With the advent of the digital release, I opted for that version instead of the physical one, since I already own several "worker placement" games in physical form. Pro's (Four Stars): The game is great all the way around. Not only does it include the fully featured game, but the tutorial in combo with the manual (in settings) is clear, concise and easy to understand. The graphics and animations are top notch but not distracting. Cross platform play is nice (I am on android and my friend is on iOS). I love how you have two online gaming options: live play and timed play, so you can play a friend live and in the moment, or come and go for turns, depending on which option you choose. The AI opponents and campaign play are nice additions that are well thought through. Con's (Minus 1 Star): There are two much needed updates for the Android version. One is that when I login on different devices with my Dire Wolf Digital account, the progress or games with the campaign/AI are not transferred. The second is that notifications for android are not working. Once fixed, I will update to 5.

Update: loading times have improved. Still, 30-40 seconds to connect is a bit long especially when you tab out of the game and have to reload again when you go back. The adaptation is very well done but too much luck involved to even bother to plan an efficient strategy. Pity because the game plays well and it's fun, but only for a few weeks. Buy if you like worker placement with "take that" mechanics, RNGods, leader's getaway and Viking theme (even if it's just graphical)

Good port, well done. It does a good job of showing you when therr are actions you cant take and and why. I wish therr was a way to have a ranked battle system. You can find random people to play with, but you never know their skill level. Thr campaign mode is also fun, does well with teaching you how to play as well as creating different challenges

Great game, great design, great graphics... It's really cool. I have the board game but this is much more fun when I can see the animation. One tip/problem: I would like to sync my progress in campaing within all my devices. Currently I have the game on my phone and my home tablet, logged on both devices with my "account" but the progress within the campaign is not synced. Please add. Thx and one of the best board game transformation into mobile game.

Solo, it's great. Setting up a multiplayer game was a horrible experience. Even more horrible was trying out the live game. It's so finicky and every time I minimize the game, my connection drops. I don't have this issue with other games, and I have plenty of boardgame ports that are so much easier to use.

Valhalla! Really enjoying this game, play it in 4-player asynchronous with friends and haven't lost a game to app bug crashes yet. The app takes a bit to load up however it may well be my phone that needs the upgrade. The board game itself is really fun, never played the game physically before but was very easy to pick up and play and I can see that it will become more and more tactical with crew abilities etc. as we go. Bring me the expansion!

faithful to the physical game with charm and style. Runs really well on a note 8, but does seem to be a bit of a battery eater. cant wait for the expansions to get added! (and maybe architects next?) (only 4 star controls as viewing tooltips for plunder is awkward and unintuitive, and placing workers can feel like threading a needle at times)

So glad I found this game! Great adaptation of the boardgame. The visuals and animations are great. The tutorial steps you through it and from there it is easy to play and master. The game controls work well and it is easy to navigate the cards and board. The challenges/achievements are a nice touch to keep you playing for goals. I never played the physical board game and just watched how-to videos on youtube, but so glad I finally purchased the app! One of my fav boardgames now!

A well-done board game. App has problems which causes it to freeze or blank screen. The result is that I have lost some wins and challenges completed. FYI, another user said you can't see what's on each card in your hand by tapping. You can by holding the tap for a second.

Perfect adaption of the board game. Fun visuals and the control work very well. AI is decent with levels of difficulty. I like the addition of Challenges. I have not tried the campaign yet but will give it a go. Would like to see the board game expansions become available.

This is one of the best digital version of a board game I've come across. Often times a game loses its luster when transformed into a different version but this is not one of those times. You still get the content of the game and the feel of it. The added animations and wonderful sound are just an added bonus. Bravo to the developers and keep up the good work. The only thing missing now is the expansions. Can't wait to play Hall of Heroes and Fields of Fame on my phone. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I love the art work. The gameplay is great and very fun. It doesnt drop me when I play online. The tutorial is helpful but I feel like a rulebook wouldnt be ammis. The controls could use a bit more feedback. I sometimes wanted to take an action but it wouldnt work and I couldnt tell if it was me or the game.

It's simply the worst experience I've ever had with a boardgame app. And it's a shame because the interface is beautiful and adaptation really good. But it's absolutely impossible to play one game online without loosing connection 10 times. They have zero excuses. Some problems could potentially be understood when the app was released but its been a year now and there is no improvement.

This used to be a 5 star app, but since the recent update it takes forever to load, and when you finally get in, you watch the other players turns, then the loading screen comes on again, and you then need to watch the other players turns once more before being able to play yourself. This is happening to me and the others I am currently playing games with. If this is sorted, review will go back up to 5 stars!

Hadn't played in a while, about to get on a plane. Decided to fire it up in case it needed to "phone home" to check a license. It started downloading something and failed. Now it's unplayable. Awesome.

The itself runs really nice. The tutorial could use A LOT of work. 5 run through a and it still is confusing and doesn't answer a lot of questions. As a result, not really enjoying to game, because to many things I'm not understanding.

an absolutely beautiful app version of the game. visual cues and details are wonderful, play is easy, and the tutorial does a good job without being overly long. The only weakness is an AI that isn't at all challenging.

Game is really well made...until it ends. Always, and I do mean ALWAYS, crashes at the end of EVERY GAME!! Just as points are being revealed everything goes dark. Not sure what the problem is but if sediment needs to be addressed. Have never players a game where it doesn't happen. Pity really...everything else about this app is stellar. However, if you can never see how points are allocated, what's the point!?!?

Great implementation of an excellent worker placement board game. The tutorial and challenges provide a very easy to follow way to learn the intricacies of how the game works and also strategies on how to win. A fun app to play and a great way to learn the board game itself.

Wish I could change the screen orientation on my larger tablet. No need to scroll across the map. Also slow in transitions. I keep moving the map when I want to place my worker if it's not quite ready (even though it already said my turn)
