The map view is pretty much unusable. If you zoom in on somewhere like Crewe, it locks up almost immediately. I also don't like the train icons being orientated every which way; I think they'd look better if they were all horizontal, or just have dots or round logos. I'd pay for an ad-free version, but not in this app's current state. It's a nice idea but it definitely needs some work.
When scrolling through the railtrack maps the keyboard pops up every time i touch the screen to scroll before quickly disappearing again. It would be nice if the railtrack map was available through the app. I can't see where it is and have to resort to Googling it. Also the option to overlay the track map with a regular map would be useful to get some perspective especially if new to an area and needing directions.
The website is absolutely fantastic - have been waiting for an app for a while. Even though this app has been in development for probably quite a while I think it's still in the beta testing stages at the moment, as it isn't quite as polished as the website. There is a lot of potential here, and I would happily pay money for the app when it is finished. However it will take time I imagine. Feedback: use the black and white colour scheme not green, include departure boards and signal map
It's a good app in principle, but execution is quite rough. For some reason it's only showing the trains around South Wales. Very jumpy, and difficult to zoom in on trains - need to zoom in very slowly. Other than that, with some (a lot of) polishing, could be a very good app. When it's polished, I'd have no doubts about paying for the app to get the headcodes, but until then, I'll wait.
Just uninstalled. It only really had one job to do... and quite simply failed to do it. Standing beside a railway and looking at the map to see if any trains were coming... the frequency with which it would show a train that clearly wasn't there, or fail to show a train that clearly was, was amazing..... Really, surprisingly poor app.
Issues remain with mapping.Map lags location significantly.Trains on map sometimes 50 miles from where they are. Some odd route anomolies, with trains off the tracks.Nice OS map but does not show route taken or to be followed. Freight mapping very poor.Seems to be better in North West than elsewhere. If Railtracker came back it would be superior but I hope the developer keeps at it because there is no current substitute.
Despite what others have said, I actually think this app is brilliant! Sure it's not 100% smooth but it gives you the information you need on a map and that's all it needs to do. Also, ITS FREE! Calm your compaining and appreciate the hard work the developers have put into it.
The best app for my needs. It shows the most up to date train locations and I like the more detailed journey progress, mostly junctions. I can't find another app that does the job. Better than the web version which locates you initially in the Midlands. I hope it's developed further.
Could be more interesting if the trains were in the right colours. And also East Midlands Trains doesn't exist anymore. It's now East Midlands Railway. Also when a train is not stopping and passing a station, the train has already passed even though it shows it approaching the station. It's only more accurate when a train makes a stop.
Reasonable when it works. Zooming in is a lottery. Could end up in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. The information is good. Tried to contact the developer on email. Doesn't connect, email returned undeliverable. Don't expect any support.
If you try to zoom in on the map it zooms in just a little then disappears and a second different map appears If you try to zoom in with this map it too disappears It also crashes the app and partly crashed the device I have tried repeatedly with the exact same result every time When the app crashes the device goes to the the first home page and shows ONLY the background image then after a few seconds all the app icons reappear I have tried this repeatedly with the same results EVERY TIME
Real-time tracking on the map is a bit erratic - train movement often stops if you scroll/zoom, and only exiting and returning to the app gets things going again. Looking forward to seeing how this app evolves.
Crashes constantly location tracking is all over the place and when you finally get it working you are about 2 seconds off another crash. I respect it is a free app but I would happily pay for something somewhat functional.
So much is missing. Why can't you look up historic arrival times in the app? This is the feature I use most from the website. It's the thing I most want the app for (i.e. to be able to process a delay repay on my phone and not necessarily just for the train that I'm on at the time).
Unreliable. Sometime the display shows trains, sometimes it does not, even after several refreshes. The pinch to zoom is far too sensitive, often sending the map miles away.
Works a treat for me, ok the map may lock up occasionally but just press the recenter button in the top right . I tested it at 3:50 am in the morning and got two sleeper trains passing within 10 mins of each other near my house and it was spot on . Thank you from an insomniac
A bit of a lag to the location of the trains. I've used this app a few times but now it will not open due to application error 'stopped running'. Reported the problem and still no joy, possible uninstall...... 🤔
Constantly crashes on going to the map. All attempts at contact result in mail undeliverable. Hopefully someone else will come along and do it better.
It loads and closes, then I load it again it closes again but only on the map side of the app. It worked on the 11th attempt. Other than that its a good app. It needs to be sorted
Absolutely awful. Crashes more than a drunk driver. Adverts 24/7. You try and zoom out, you're zooming in. If you try and zoom in, you're zooming out. Disgraceful app. I'll stick to RealTime Trains.
Update: 5 Aug 2021. Still brilliant just using it to see when someone I am picking up will get to the station. I was looking for a rail equivalent of Flightradar 24 and found this. Its brilliant. Has details of freight trains and Eurostar.
All I want is to know is what the train is and where its going to or from across the bottom of the field where I live. Its frustratingly close to what I want but all trains get to 3miles north of my village and then stop dead. Then after 5-10 mins they vanish (if they they where ever there in the first place). It may work for some but for me after loading and reloading on various machines its clear its not reliable enough to bother with. So DISSAPOINTING ! Please keep trying to get it working.
Good when you select a train but i couldnt get it to change train by selecting from the map. The train details are shown but not the map icon to track it. Too much hassle havi g to start a new selection from scratch.
It crashes, the train icons are dreadful and there is no ad-free option, but with development it has the potential to be useful.
Absolutely useless. Train sitting at the station ourside my window and one approaching, but nothing on the map. Complete joke.
Finally! A train app that shows actual real time train progress using signal information not just station arrival and departure info - great so far!! Not sure how to get the paid-for version to remove ads though.
Good for info but map terrible for zooming in and out. Trying to zoom into a location results in the map going berserk then the whole app crashing.
Frequently just doesn't work. When it does, info is patchy or sometimes lagged. It's handy for our 3 year old to spot trains but can't imagine it's good enough for the serious trainspotter.
Can't upgrade to Pro, reached out to dev and had no response. 😕 Update** even after latest update still can't upgrade. Constant error message "sorry you cannot upgrade at this time"
This app does exactly what I want, but unfortunately it's poorly executed. The map is terrible, it glitches when zooming in or out and is almost impossible to use. The train icons are horrendous (needs an option to change them to simple blobs instead of giant trains!) and tapping on a train brings up a full screen dialogue box covering the whole map, which is useless and annoying. It's a great concept, and could be a really good app with a bit more work.
