Rain Soundscape (Free)
Using the magic of Foley Artistry, mother nature, and a little chaos from a random number generator, Rain Soundscape creates and mixes a complete experience from your selections in real time. Most rain sound apps have a single pre-recorded loop of sound that they play over and over (and over and over) until your ears fall off. Rain Soundscape uses nearly 50 different sounds and a cleverly built sound engine to paint an audio landscape for the mind. Listen to the calls of a mockingbird over the backdrop of rolling thunder, or sit on a wind-swept porch as the rain courses through the roof-top gutters.
Using intuitive sliders, you set which sounds you want to add to the ever changing mix. Set the rain bar on low to hear the ebb and flow with the movement virtual storm cells; move it to high, add a little wind and some distant thunder, and you've created your very own desert storm. Become a sound engineer and create the mix you want to hear!
Use this app to relax, fall asleep, study, or even background filler for a stage production. Perfect for white noise, riki, meditation, and other low-activity settings. The custom sound engine guarantees that no two storms will ever be quite alike, even after hours of playback.
Additional features include a shut-off timer, presets, and a beta version of the alarm. The alarm will be completed next release, and will feature multiple alarms with preset selection. This app will also continue playing your rain soundscape even if you get a text message or browse the web.
The free version is also offered as a testing version. Because of the complexity of the sound engine, not all devices are capable of running this app in a smooth and efficient manner (if at all). Try this version before buying the paid one just in case your device does not support the sound engine.

This was my fav app for years. Just re installed it to my new phone as not used it a wee while. The rain sound only lasts for 3 seconds then stops then starts again. Constantly. I've tried turning everything else down but it makes no difference. The volumes are all wrong, the gusts of wind don't have a quieter setting they are just really sudden and loud... Nothing really works on this any more.
For so long I've been looking for an app that let's me choose the amount of rain and thunder and other comforting sounds mixed together. And it has a timer to set so I can meditate to it and I don't have to keep wondering if my 15 minutes is passed.
Would have given it five stars but it quits working almost every time I use it and locks up my phone, have to push the back button repeatedly to get the phone unlocked. It is the best I have found in how you can arrange the sounds to suit yourself.
...the mono audio really kills a lot of the relaxing effect for me. I mean, I want to feel like I'm listening to a storm that is happening around me, not a storm that is happening on a TV down the hall. The constant dead-center audio is rather fatiguing for the ears. Other than that, really neat idea, and the app runs perfectly on my old LG Ally with minimal tweaking (note to other Ally owners: default settings will cause an unclean reset, changing priority to 3 and simultaneous samples to 20 fixed it, haven't messed with it to see what the best settings are). If it had higher-quality audio, I would have no problem at all with buying the full version...but as it is, the audio drags it down.
The title says it all. The rain on metal is great and I don't notice any pause in the loop at all.
Took an hour to Fine-tune, but now have 1. Gentle New England summer rain, 2. Stormy Costs Rican night , 3. Distant Malaysian Typhoon. Transport me away, restore my serenity, refresh my very being. Take your time, design your bliss, heal your wounds.
I wish I could send you a box of chocolates. Your app is amazing, no more low quality loops, I can sleep deeply with this one because my brain doesn't learn where the looping point is. I got the paid app, just wish that I could transfer my perfect preset from the free to the paid version, developer could you please work on this for the next update? I have the perfect mix saved as a favorite but no way to transfer to the paid version. I'm so happy, I can finally sleep well again! You made a huge difference.
Absolutely love this app. Went nuts trying to find this in a sea of similar apps, but none work for me as great as this one. Beautiful design. Perfectly customizable. Sounds are organized and organically natural. No bells and whistles. Love love love it, deserves more people aware of it.
Small size, works great. It's superior to many other similar apps since it uses a randomizer so there is no distracting, repeating pattern.
I've been looking for a storm sound machine for a while and none of the other apps gave me all these different options.
Love this so much, I've just purchased the full version. There are some things I'd like to change -- I'd like a wider range on the gust slider, it doesn't go as low as I'd like it -- but it does a great job and I find this app very useful.
I wish I could save my storm sound as a ringtone and kind of wish it had a better stereo effect-- but all in all, pretty cool for being free.
Been through all the apps and this is by far the best. You can great your own storm that's perfect for u. Sounds even more realistic with headphones on. Thanks for helping me sleep every night
It says it has no skips on this program but around every 15 seconds it gets a little quiet and quits raining until it lightens again then starts raining again. I might have rated this higher if it didn't say no skips.
Use of random patterns of samples gives this app much better results than others that just loop a sample. Wish this was still being actively developed though.
Love the app. Does kinda sounds as if im listening to it rain on a tv but that's ok. Sometimes it crashes though. Pretty often actually. That's why only 4 stars.
Best that I have found, I always make sure this app is on my device. I can't believe its not a top downloadable ambient sound app.
With the many different options you can calmly, quietly, and casually lul yourself to sleep.... although if they had rain on a tarp that would sound pretty good too
Sounds clip if you try and mix them. Quality is okay but low end is really lacking.
I love the app as it helps me fall asleep, however there is a huge glitch where it freezes often. I am looking for another app in hopes that it has a similar sound, but doesn't create the headache of freezing on my screen. Otherwise, I do like the app!
It would be nice if I could use this in 5.1 surround sound. Other rain apps use all speakers this app just uses the center channel. Dolby pro logic 2
Love this app. It has a timer and you can adjust the storm any way you want. You can control whether you want more or less thunder, crickets, windchimes. Tons of options. I love it when you stop the storm it gradually fades instead of an abrupt stop.
Just try it. Every other app had some small noise or pattern or something that annoyed me. This is so good - such a relief :)

Wish they made more with other nature sounds. You can put in so many preferences and the best part is, you open up other areas like a book and have that nice gentle rain sound as you read, until you close down the app completely. Very easy to use too.
