Installed update. UI still difficult to use. E.g. trying to filter climbing routes for Joshua Tree by grade is almost impossible, since the slider is very hard to set to a particular grade. Also, if I recall correctly the previous version allowed filtering by both sun and shade. Now i can only filter bu sun. No way to find climbs that are in the shade at a particular time of day. Filtering is what I use the app for, everything else is much easier in either printed book or mountain project
Once you choose a route to climb the App works as advertised. If you are trying to find a route to climb the app is frustrating. Navigation feels clunky and counter intuitive. You need to navigate very far into the climb to find relevant info like the number of pitches. Its especially frustrating when you are used to seeing info for several routes at once, like on a single page of a guide book. While not perfect, Mountain Project's UI is far more friendly.
Awesome tool for any climber. The GPS is invaluable for getting to far-away crags from the trailhead. It isn't always SUPER accurate, but it is close enough to where it will DEF help get you to the crag you're looking for. Occasionally there are issues with the app, but support is VERY fast at responding to get them remedied. Lots of guide books available for major crags both in and outside the US, excellent photos, great reviews, ratings, etc. And it's really nice to NOT have to carry a guide book.
Perhaps their trial version is showing 5% of what I expected????? Zero instruction. "Trail Maps" took me to a Google earth map of our entire planet. That was from inside the guide I was in. I'm not skiing in Africa. Disappointing results to say the least. After numerous attempts I did find lines drawn on the top map for on descent option with a diamond rating on each line. There are perhaps 100 lines on that ridge and this app showed me one.
Performs great with the ski guides! I use the "blue dot" on the satellite map with backcountry runs overlayed to greatly reduce my navigation time and allow for more laps. Would recommend it to anyone looking to easily get familiar with a new zone quickly. Like many cheats, doesn't replace common sense though...
didn't love the interface- it kept going back to higher level menu every time my phone screen turned off. very annoying when trying to figure out which route is which while standing at the base. but the trail map feature is great.
I wanted to love this app but i havent been able to use it, not from lack of trying. I downloaded this app right after I bought a 3 dollar guidebook from the website. i created an account with a username that contained spaces and apostrophes which seemed to register fine. Except, only with this original account, i can never login again. everytime i try the app fails to register my username even though they are saved credentials through google play. cant use and lost 3 bucks.
rakkup has developed a superb app that will allow skiers to take the guidebook offline and into the backcountry. An easy purchase of the ski guidebook enables users to navigate difficult terrain using maps and detailed photos. Customer service is excellent.
The Rakkup guides are much more than a guide book. They are great tools for decision making while backcountry skiing. They have been an amazing addition to the avalanche courses I teach aiding students in choosing appropriate routes.
guys I am in IT and have friends that are amazing in UI/UX ... god damnit I will pay out of my pocket ... just fix the UI. The drawer style is so horrendous especially in a small screen... it is impossible to navigate
Navigation isn't obvious to figure out. Please make it transferable to the phone's SD card instead of using up the phone's memory.
This app is borderline impossible to use now. Change the layout back to how it used to be. I wont be buying any more guides on it until that is done.
Great app, but will the Android app be updated like the iPhone one was. Their new interface is much easier to use. Thanks!
Please fix. I can no longer view my purchases. Just bought a new book and it can't load. It's a 5 star app... When working.
Always have problems updating bookshelf, tried to clear data and then login not working anymore... We pay for guide that we cannot access
Can you make this less userfriendly and more complicate. I dont think its possible.
crashes all the time
The app is good. It functionality is great. Not the most intuitive but great options built in. Just realized I never updated this. BUGS fixed and thugs are good.
Made route finding in Joshua Tree much simpler... Really appreciate the supplementary route photos.
Have to many sample in the bookshelf, tried a lot of time to delete it, and still there. A bug it's ok but after a year... seriously common guys
Still Can't Delete Samples from Bookshelf. March 2017. Now Jan 2018
This is the future for guidebooks.
Really glad to have found this app. It's intuitive to use with gps navigation and clear photo orientation that gets you to the rock with little fuss. I like that it downloads all the data and works offline, so no worries when you're way out there with no service. Nice not to have to carry around a clunky book. More areas please! Thanks!
Disappointing, it seems like it'd be great, such a wonderful idea! But the information is inaccurate, (the WORST) the map doesn't show the difference between roads and trails, the app navigation is a pain, and the app crashes often.
Why does the back button exit the app? This is the most annoying issue with the app and is inconsistent with Android app function. Next are the tiny arrows that are difficult to press to move around the sections. This attempt to reinvent the wheel has not succeeded, in my opinion. The filters are lacking when looking at climb lists. You cannot even filter by number of pitches. Are single pitch and multi pitch routes not differentiated? Given the opportunity, I'd rather lug around a paper copy
