CS no longers lets you see real annual ratings with a standard subscription, even though you contribute to the CS Foundation & complete annual surveys for these ratings. I tried to correct my Digital Subscription Profile for 3 yrs & they still keep sending issues to wrong address inspite of calling & pointing out to live subscription staff that I moved to another City. Even though I have same chg card & bank, I now have different email address. I give up & will not participate in surveys. 🤕
I have a consumer reports subscription to their magazine. I was under the assumption that I can log into this app the same as if I was reading the magazine. Apparently there's another charge for the app and it's just not worth my time. I will not be renewing my subscription to the magazine, but I wanted to see if the digital app worked okay before making that choice, but I can't log in. I was able to log in before but I can't now. Oh well such is life.
First off, the design of the app is poor. I can't make searches between vehicles and different years. Then there's a bigger problem I have with the vehicle's and how they are rated and reviewed. They say nothing about where the statistical data comes from or how many people actually had given reliable input other than, "we sent a questionnaire out". And they don't recognize differences in vehicle trim levels. All of this just is unreliable and unverified... the whole purpose of them to exist.
So after an update I cant seem to see the car reliability details. What I mean by that is they used to show you what exactly was and was not reliable outside of the overall score. I could see things like transmission, electronics, power equipment etc but no more. Consumer Reports I love your work so please bring that back!
Needs improvement. Was looking for a review of TV antennas and got no results. Thought it was odd that cr hadn't done that. Then I checked their website and there it was (Feb 2022). Why is it missing in this app???
I have had consumer reports digital & a subscription to the magazine you can't go wrong with either one. They are very informative!
Works fine but automatic 1-star loss for not being able to move the app to external storage.
I'm using this app for information on appliance purchases. I find the descriptions of how items are tested useful to ensure ratings are unbiased. My biggest complaint is in the limited filter options. Ideally, every feature they list should have a filter. For example, looking at refrigerators, I would like a counter depth model with over 20cu.ft. usable capacity. Since neither of those are filterable features, I have to look through dozens of models to find any that fit the profile.
Eh, it's fair. I find my self leaving the app a lot because there's missing information that's on the webpage. I get they want a "clean" experience but sometimes I want data even if it doesn't look pretty in the app. Needs to be an option to click that link to the website for more data.
First thing I installed CR app for was in looking for used vehicles. Don't expect much. Nothing is here despite paying for electronic access. No ratings, no year comparisons, none of the info that should be here. Very disappointing to say the least. Talk about missing the mark for a mobile app. It could have been great for this.
Garbage, just use their website instead. You'll get more products & details. It's a waste of phones memory and storage. The app only contains a few of the thousands of reviews that they have performed. Some categories aren't even available in the app. Didn't realize it until checking tire reviews. It recommends reading their "Tire Store" reviews, which cannot be found in the app. To me, if the app doesn't provide the same product reviews as the website, then it's worthless.
The app is decent enough. My biggest complaint is that when I press my back arrow sometimes it goes all the way back to the main menu and not the previous screen. It's a pain when I'm looking at products with many subcategories. I have to go through the whole process again to get to where I was. Other times it goes back to the previous screen just fine. It's finicky, so I never know what it's going to do. Other than that, no complaints. I like to browse products. Hope they fix the glitch.
This has been pretty reliable for a long time, but the information just isn't keeping up. It's a shame really. With so many false review sites, CR is desperately needed. I look for digital thermometer and see reviews from 2016 and a top recommendation of a product released in 2004, according to Amazon. I know there are many things to review and rate but yikes. Covid-19 related products might need higher priority.
When signing up (which can't be done in the app) it told me my account could not be created. Then upon trying again it told me I already had an account, but the log in I had just attempted didn't work. Finally, when I attempted to reset my password I clicked the link entered a new password and was met with a 404 error. My new reset password didn't work. I uninstalled the app. I guess the free YouTube reviews were the right choice after all.
Limited Categories. If you're looking for appliances or other high ticket items then I would recommend the app but if you're looking for reviews on basic household items (trash bags, buy sprays, paper towel- that kind of thing) then forget it. The app is very VERY limited in the categories it has reviews for and is disappointing. You can cancel it after you pay for it but you're not getting a refund and they don't provide your initial sign up date so it's guess work as to when to cancel.
Graphics are fine but the search engine is horrible. Fast food is a selection but only shows fast food breakfast? The search engine shows only luxury, small, and sports cars. You have to go to the categories for the complete picture there. Needs a lot of work.
App is not intuitive to use. I had to uninstall and reinstall the app to get the how-to info for the compare feature. To anyone else looking: press and hold the item you want to compare. I still dont know where the chat with an expert feature is.
As of 6/28/21, the app locks up and automatically drops back to the home page. No updates appear to be available for the app. Used on Samsung S8 with Android operating system. Please correct this problem. Thank you.
I looked at smooth top electric ranges yesterday on the CR website, then installed this app to take into the appliance store to help with my shopping. The results on this app were not anywhere near the same as your website, so I agree with other reviewers that this app is not useful. Just take your phone into the store, and go to their website..... The mobile version of their website is decent, and gave the same results as the desktop version.
App previously installed and operational. Today, several attempts to start it resulted in notice that the app had stopped. Restarts had no effect. Uninstalled. Now each attempt to reinstall stops at the first partial completion report ranging from 54% to 92%. Restarts and pausing VPN had no effect.
As of July 9th, I've been unable to use this app. It keep telling me the I've entered the wrong ID and/or password. I've contacted tech support and they were unhelpful. Please escalate this issue. It seems that others are experiencing the same issue.
I've always appreciated the things CR does, and I'm a contributor and subscriber. The detailed info on autos is indispensable, though I usually take the reviews of other products with somewhat more of a grain of salt, especially when they haven't reviewed many products in a category. Still, I always check the app or website whenever I'm shopping for something.
The app is fine, works great..but, 9 times out of 10 the things I need a review on have not been reviewed. So if you need a review of a vacuum cleaner you're in luck..but if you need a review of a vacuum pump, or tolls etc.. you're not. Now I'm trying to figure out how to unsubscribe..it's super easy to get them to take your money but not so easy to get them to stop.
Not terribly easy to navigate. Most recent version only shows Apple cell phones. Update: Reinstalling app cleared up the problem. (Filters were not activated when the glitch occurred.)
Been using them for a long time. We always check out items if they have them posted in their products testing. Sometimes they dont. So we have to try to find out in other places. That's the only thing, they need to test more products. I know they say they don't use ads for money and buying products to tests cost money. Maybe they can ask for samples to tests,to lower their costs.
The app is useful, but lacks lots of information from the site. Also the saved items is broken showing you duplicates rather than the real items when you return from viewing one. Not terribly useful.
Outdated.....the first thing I searched for is dated 2016!!! It's 2021, what the heck is up with that and how is that helpful? I pay for a subscription with you and expected the app to be a more convenient mobile version of your website but does not seem to be that way.
Ok for reading and looking up ratings. Abysmal for videos; irrespective of wifi or wireless signal, videos stop every 15 seconds to download the next part. They should fix this ASAP, youtube does not have these issues.
Quite disappointed, at least in used car info, you get basic reliability, cust cust satisfaction, recalls and mpg, but that's it. Poor vehicle search returns too. I uninstalled it after 10 min, ill just use the website and put the link on my home page and itll act as a better app and save some memory. Btw i did pay for 1 month of access * signed is so it's not like i was not a member.
I've been a Consumer Reports subscriber for decades. When I switched my subscription to digital only, they recommended I download the app. For a while, I thought CR's quality was getting worse. However, yesterday I opened the same article in my desktop browser and discovered far more material than offered through the app. The website also allows filtering information by far more categories than the app does. In summary, don't bother with this app. The website is so much better.
