I never would have lost my level in Chinese if I had this app years ago. A+++
It's a great app for learning Chinese. The articles are current, varied and interesting. Keep up the good work and ...thank you.
Thanks! Very useful app for any level. Help me a lot to read news etc
Great articles and great value for money. All I need to improve my Chinese!
The free version still gives plenty of opportunity to learn.
I love it
I used this app for months with a paid subscription. A few days ago it no longer recognized me as a paid subscriber. I sent a report in the app explaining the problem and asking for help. Today it says my account no longer exists. Very disappointing as I used this app every day. This is the first time I have ever felt the need to write a review for an app. EDIT: I tried decipher again today. Still unable to log in. Uninstalled. I wish I hadn't wasted money on it.
for some reason it blocks of the window and wont let me get to the artical. the window that blocks of the artical asks me "do you want to read more we write 365.... " but no I want to read the artical I chose. I have only just got the app, but perhaps this brag screen can stop telling me of this and stopping my learning. other than that major problem the concept is great. please I want to read more but I wish that window would stop.
It's a great app. The articles are interesting and very well laid out. Wish I could give this 4.5/5 as my only complaint is that the flashcards seem to get taken off the review list after only a short time. For me, this app is so useful that I'm considering a subscription and I pretty much never do that.
I know that you guys need to get paid for what you've done so far, but imo you have to review your business plan. Never EVER update an app and ask money for features that were previously free. I'm sorry but users feel betrayed. You can add ads, you can add new premium features requesting the user to pay for them but this is just bad.
Only thing that could make this app better would be the addition of a Cantonese Jyutping option instead of only Mandarin. (But I understand that Cantonese is less commonly learned) This app has helped me learn more characters in a much more entertaining way than flashcards!:)
Once I thought $5 a month is too expensive since I currently live in S.E. Asia. But then I thought it over again, seems that it is just too cheap compared with conventional courses but also gives a better result.
good for reviewing newly learned words, for learning new vocabulary, for understanding the meaning of difficult words, for practicing pronunciation, and so on. this is one of the best and effective app here in google play.... and yeah, im satisfied with the free articles, but if there's a chance for us to have more free articles... that'd be great. 1 free article a day is great enough. lol
I would've given it 5 stars if not for the fact that it no longer allows me to sign into my account. I have a monthly subscription and yet it tells me there's no account by that email, nor can I log in using my google account (which is how I subscribed to begin with). I emailed the app team and have gotten no response after a week. What is the point of paying for the app if I can't actually utilize the services? It's a shame because the app itself is very useful for someone studying Chinese. Unfortunately I can't give a high rating when the app doesn't even function as it should.
The very well thought out interface and interactive articles are exactly what learning chinese can look like in modern ages of mobile devices. On the go reading of short news with ability to tap to see pronunciation and translation of hanzi you don't know. The app is very reliable and well built. For occasional reading there are daily free articles.
Fun way to keep up on and learn more Chinese! It's very nice that the system groups characters into phrases and marks the HSK level so you can see how your knowledge base is progressing. Wish the free version didn't have such a restrictive vocabulary bank, but otherwise it's a great app.
This is by far one of the most helpful apps I've ever came across in my journey of learning Chinese. It shows you the characters as well as the Pin Yin and the meanings to them; all while reading it to you so you learn the pronunciation of the words at the same time. It's brilliant!
For a free apps this is marvelous. Not only I learn new vocabularies, idioms and lessons are taken from real time events, I can learn to speak by listening to the pronunciation, by clicking any word in the text. I salute the developers of this App and the dedicated instructors of Decipher. I highly recommend it.
I actually LOVE this app. I'm currently reviewing for HSK3 in December and in about one week it already helped me improve my reading enormously. I'd be delighted to throw all my money at them for more articles and more vocab - I actually don't have a problem paying the authors for their content, on the contrary, I'd love to. Except I can't. I keep getting an error message when I try to subscribe. I've been trying to get in touch with Decipher for about a week now and I've had no reply. I've tried several channels: their "Contact us" form, email, even a desperate facebook message. No reply. I've subscribed to other apps and even got in touch with Google who confirmed that the problem is not my end. If and when they get back to me and I can finally get more content I'd be happy to change this review accordingly. But my guess is that I'll just end up subscribing to another, very similar app instead (although I prefer this one)...
I previously found it difficult to find the time to read and check for word meaning at the same time. But then, I came across this Decipher and I do feel that learning reading Chinese has never been more effective. I'd highly endorse this to anyone learning Chinese. Keep updating! 😉
Love the App for myself!! I'm currently practising my reading speed. Finished HSK 5 Characters in Memrise and I think this is a tool I was missing to bring my Chinese to the next level. However is not so simple for beginners...but must be efficient for those who have real goals and wanna be quick..
Best way to read and learn chinese ..there is something for everyone no matter the proficiency level. The translation tool is amazing. Thanks to all who created and participate in this app
It's OK. Not a lot of HSK level 1 reading. About four available for free. Looks like it just hopes to push you to make a purchase which I prefer not to. I feel at my level, I can do with another app instead.
Provides interesting articles graded for HSK levels. You need to know the characters already, this just provides a good way to practice.
I'm extremely happy I've stumbled upon this app. It really helps me with keeping my Chinese in shape. So far one new article per day has been enough for me.
I am baffled that is free. Being able to choose articles by difficulty is a plus. Every word can be selected for pronunciation and meaning, even more plus. There is also audio included for pronunciation, I am sold! That is just the tip of the ice berg. Lovely app
New articles daily. Graded by HSK difficulty. Translates vocabulary with one touch. Ability to save words for review. Very well developed free app.
Interesting articles with different subjects and difficulty ratings. But like some people pointed out, you need to already have a basic Mandarin Chinese proficiency, because there are no grammar points explanations, just vocab.
It's a great app. I learn pricing might be expensive but using it once everyday day for new article is like waiting for 1900s news. It's small but worth the wait. I might consider the membership later when I have more time. :)
