The search function is abysmal. Doesnt even find an article with a PMID. This app needs some serious bug fixes. Especially since you have to pay for the readcube service these days. All I want is to be able to add papers I find on twitter etc to readcube to read the following day on my computer when I am at Uni - with the journal access rights.
I am using Read Cube on a Chromebook - both the app and the web version have highlighting and underlining features, but I cannot get them to work. I thought it was because I had not subscribed, so I bought a subscription, and they still don't work(wxcept very briefly last night). Has anyone else had a similar experience? I've used this program on Windows and never had a problem. In fact, I really like Read Cube, except for this problem.
Good app for syncing and reading academic papers. It is extremely promising, but this particular app needs work. There is no download pdf option in case you want to use a better pdf reader. Copying text only copies the first word you selected, not the rest. Search feature uses Google scholar, which does not help in quickly defining words. Integration with S pen would be awesome. Features from the browser app would be nice too, such as supplemental access. Could use a cleaner UI.
Updated: Huge improvements in UI and features over previous versions. Thank you for the continued development and not abandoning your mobile-first users. Old: Importing references via the "share with" button just shows the library instead of importing the reference. This makes the app rather useless and inferior to it's competitors. Update: People have been complaining about this for 1.5 years at least now. Please enable import from url (as in desktop) and not only from pdf.
I've been using Papers since Papers 1. I always loved it and installed Papers2, which was great. Then Papers 3, which was ok. And now I have installed ReadCube and it is absolute garbage. You have completely gutted the functionality of the app... And don't get me started on "SmartCite". It is completely unusable. You shouldn't be charging people for a "Referencing program" if it can't bloody reference, guys!
Offline functionality is bad. I downloaded a bunch of papers, after reading and annotating some offline, I opened the app again and it automatically tries to sync and then says there's no papers in my library. I checked storage and the downloaded papers are still in the app. But my Papers library on the app just says there's nothing there. Outside of that, the app is ok.
Meets the lowest bar for expectations. Bad for annotations and the design layout is truly awful. Feels like a very dated phone app. It's honestly just annoying to look at this app. A terrible disappointment if you are expecting something with polish and ease of use on par with the web interface.
Not sure what to make of this, because the Android version doesn't let me import PDFs from other apps or My Files. I can select "Open PDF with Readcube", then the app opens with no PDF imported. I'm hoping it's just a bug that will be fixed, as I have used the Mac/iOS/PC Papers3 app for years so I am disappointed with this. Using Samsung Galaxy Tab S4.
It seems that I can't find a button to open pdf files downloaded from your server in another app. I use an e-ink pdf reader and find that the reading experience is not well compatible enough for my reader.
Missing the "outline" to switch quickly between chapters or even start at one of your choice to begin with. It's almost impossible to get around in a big pdf.
Impossible to use on Android 10 because to bring up the left side menu you need to drag it from left edge of the screen to the right but that activates the native Android back gesture....Also app looks ugly and ported.
It has been over a month since I submitted my issue to Papers team. I have been promised to be contacted by their support. I never heard back from them, even though I keep writing to support.
Android app not as responsive as the web app (mobile). I like their web app and just subscribed to ReadCube Papers membership. I hope to see a better Android app (response time, layout, UI).
sadly this is a horrible app and i am sad i upgraded from papers 3 to this.. the mac papers 3 app was much more smooth.. i csnt use the stylus on the android app.. overall very hard to navigate and would not recommend it at all
It would be better if dark mode option was provided in the settings for android 9 and lower devices... Cheers on the new UI... It's awesome..👍👍
I paid for an article on Wiley to read on this app. App won't sync anything and I can't access the document that I PAID for. Completely and utterly USELESS. DON'T MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE AS I DID
I am unable to locate the downloaded PDF to be opened in other PDF readers. There is no way to add new entry in the Library from this Android version.
The freehand annotation is horrible. Defeats the whole purpose of using a tablet for reading papers.
I like it so much because it does what it promises well. My worry is the absence of the ability to import pdfs.
The side bar can't be open on Android. Otherwise, it's decent.
I have used this suite of products for three years now and the company has genuinely pushed to improve the bugs and such because they will personally communicate with you about issues and make sure you are enjoying the service.
New UI 3.0 is much improved and better. Thanks to the developers.
No option to login, it always takes me to the create account page even though already have an account
Logged in and research article I had paid for was not in my library, garbage app.
Left sliding exits the program instead of pulling the left panel.
I've thoroughly enjoyed this app; I also use it on my iPad and Mac as well. The syncing and integration is super useful. The only thing I find lacking is the S-pen functionality. I find that the latency is higher than other apps that allow for annotations, though I don't notice this on my iPad. Improving this would remove my only major gripe with the app. For reference, I use a Note 20 Ultra.
