Known issues and fixes
- It uses the notification stream to read messages and calls by default, so if your phone is on silent you will hear nothing. However if you check the use music stream option it will use the music stream, in which case it will play at the media volume, so if your on silent you can still hear notifications.
- Anyone experiencing the issue where it reads on both speaker and headphones/bluetooth simultaneously use the music stream option.

Please don't leave negative feedback or a bad rating if you find a bug or if it does not work on your device as that won't help me fix it. Please email me with details of your issue and I will see if I can fix it.And free to email me with any queries and feature requests. I'm always open to suggestions :)

I've rebooted my phone I've turned on all the apps notifications I have three profiles set up. The app will not automatically switch from one profile to another, and I can't find any way to manually activate a profile. The only notification it shows is listening for a profile. I created and always on profile because that is the only way this application will work. The application is unable to find when my home Wi-Fi is turned on or when my Bluetooth is turned on. Plus it never switches.

Plays messeges just fine but it does not allow me to answer any of the messages even though I am trying with all the different settings to get it to work and I find this very frustrating. I need an app that can not only read to me my messages but will allow me to respond to those messages and so I'm continuing my look for an app that will provide that feature. I've written twice. Each time I received a one answer saying they would look into a and get back to me and neither have occurred.

It's a good announcing application for s10plus. The answer option is alitttle fritzy but I don't use that feature. But solid app otherwise and is definitely worth it to get the paid version. Easy to navigate in and out of application as well as switching on and off easily. Also it doesn't pry into your information or phone storage.

In principle this is a great app. And in 60% of reality it is too. Sadly that remaining 40% that is missing contains some of the most important features that, for many, would be amongst the reasons for downloading it in the first place. Features such as identifying the sender of a text message. I've heard the message content read out but have no idea who it was from. And I've heard "new SMS message" but again, no ID. And yes, i have looked into the settings and selected the correct icons.

Exactly what I was looking for. I set it up to activate when I connect my Bluetooth shower speaker. Now I can hear my texts even in the shower! Original review was based on initial use. It claims to do exactly what I wanted, but in the past several months it has only worked twice. It generally does not activate when my Bluetooth (Anker) speaker connects.

I have a Nokia 8/Mercedes B class and the basic app works fine. However, I have just cancelled my subscription for the paid version, as the reply function this enables is useless. Most of the time I don't want to reply, but it never recognises the word "no" when I try to tell it I don't want to reply. If I reply "yes", it's virtually impossible to get the voice recognition correct for even a short message, but, if you do, half the time it doesn't send it. My old Windows phone was far better...

This is great, I find it incredibly handy and helpful while driving. I set up a profile to turn on or start working every time my phone connects to my 2011 Ford Explorer. My car is a bit dated, so when a text comes in, ReadItToMe makes a phone call connection to the MyFordTouch system and reads me the text. It then asks if I want to reply, if Yes, I can then speak my response and it will send out the TXT. This works with Google Hangouts and other messaging apps. Once you get it set up and working, it’s just great. All hands free. All voice responses and keep your eyes on the road. There is no user interface when it is reading messages and getting your response, so no interference with your Google Maps or Waze. Waiting on an upgrade so it will work on my Pixel with Android 10.

Works ok with headphones plugged in but will keep repeating the same messages over and over and over. Very frustrating. Does not work in my car with Bluetooth. The profile does not start, I have to mess with it to get it to manually turn on and then it may work once or twice then stops. Messaged their support and got no response and I have the paid version.

My previous Windows phone did this out of the box but Android doesn't seem to do a good job giving it's users a true hand free method for taking a call or text while your busy, driving or otherwise. When you get a message it prompts for simple Yes/No answers. The voice talks a bit fast, but can be slowed, but then the next bump down makes her too slow. Also the wait time for your response it a second or so short. Gotta answer fast. I don't care for the subscription based payment, but it is cheap. Like $3 a year, so I can live with it. All in all seems to work well. I paid for the app within the first day after testing. It will interrupt my fm radio while driving which is what I wanted. I don't want to have to be activily Bluetoothed to get my messages. This does that.

The app takes some time to figure out because the Help section is fairly sparse. However once I had it set up it works well. It would be nice if it gave me a little nore time to respond before asking if I was ready to send the text. Overall I believe that the app is worth the annual subscription because it wilk make driving safer. Texting can be done without touching or looking at your phone.

Liar. No support whatsoever. All you will get is: "I do try to reply to all emails personally but due to the volume of emails received this isn't always possible. If your email is regarding a bug and you don't receive a personal reply from me within 72 hours this will be because your bug has been widely reported and will make it into the next update. If your email is a feature request please note all features are carefully considered and I try to implement as many as I can. If your feature is going to make it into an upcoming build I will let you know nearer the time, if it isn't I will let you know the reason why. If your email is regarding anything else I will be in touch shortly :) Hope to speak to you soon, Rob " Version 1 was a great program. Version 2 is a major downgrade. Now when you turn off your headset or car Bluetooth, the app continues to read your private message over your phone speakers. WHAT A GREAT FEATURE FOR PRIVACY. You have the convenient option of rebooting every time you turn off your headset. This is typical of programmers. They don't know when to leave well enough alone. Frequent "upgrades" bring frequent buggs. This version is USELESS.

It worked brilliantly on my Nokia 8. It connected to the Parrot in the Volvo and the Peugeot Bluetooth. I was so impressed I paid for the app...... huge mistake. Since I paid for it it reads every message twice and no longer understands me when I reply 'No'. After it reads the SMS the second time it won't release the phone so I'm driving in a country where it's illegal to touch the phone with a phone stuck in 'call' mode. Use the app by all means, just don't pay for it.

This app used to be good. I have been paying for it for many years. Recently the app is unusable. After responding to a message over bluetooth in my car, the app doesn't hang up after saying "no" to wanting a message read. Then manually hanging up crashed the profile. I also get a quick message telling me my message was sent after responding. None of these were issues in the past. This app needs a lot of work.

Love this app, a while ago I was looking for an app that would read notifications when I had my bluetooth on. I had tried a LOT of other options and they just did sms messages if they worked at all. My google voice messages was the main point of finding an app for this, but nothing was able to read those messages because they were not sms. I can confirm that this has solved that problem and I have not had any notable issues since installing. This really should be a default feature...

How I wanted this app to work. Could be good but isn't. Major flaw - Doesn’t "turn on and off exactly when you want it to" as the app claims. I have to manually turn on and off. And if you have it on with headphones and forget to turn it off even with your phone on mute it will read you text. So sitting in the middle of a meeting thinking my phone was set to do not disturb I get a text read out load in front of everyone because I forgot to manually turn off profile. Unacceptable! I reached out via email and no reply back - also unacceptable. Would pay for the app if it actually worked.

I had this app for about a year and it worked great, EVERYTHING, so I bought it. NOW the only time it works is if I reboot after every message. The reply no longer works. I'm asked if I want to reply, I say yes, and then silence. My podcasts used to pause while msg was read, now it steps on top of podcast so they are both going at same time. I've uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail. I noticed the app has been updated. My dad used to say "if it's not broke, don't fix it." Disappointed 😞

Not sure what happened. Recently the Bluetooth profile linked to my car stopped working, so it doesn't automatically fire when phone connects to car. If I turn it on manually, it doesn't turn off once the phone is disconnected from the car. Before this happened, the app worked beautifully. No response from developer.

This remains the only app that I've bought the full version of when I was completely satisfied with the free version. I wear earbuds at work in the office and have echo devices in multiple rooms in my house. It's perfect to be able to hear notifications that I need, disable what I don't, and respond to only what's important. I have zero regrets with this app and use it daily. You can't go wrong, especially if you take the time to customize how it acts with each of your other app notifications.

Saved the annoying head unit in my ELR! Bluetooth connectivity was there, but no Android auto. So no text reading and dictation. So dependent on that now that I was trying to figure up a way around the shortcoming. Tried a few different SMS readers. None were consistent and lowered my music to read the messages. With a little tweaking this did, and allowed me to answer vocally! Now, just gotta figure out why it wants to re-read the message after I respond, but that's s small price to pay!

Sco. B. Nov 6, 2020

Has potential, but I never got it to work properly on my Note 8. It would read a text message and then when a new text message would come in it would read the new one and the old one. No, I did not have the messaging app selected in addition to the SMS option. Also I need to be able to shake the phone to make it stop reading a message out loud as something could be read that I don't want anyone around me to hear. I may revisit the app in the future to see if it will work better for me.

Better than Google assistant, but no where close to Cortana on a windows phone, sigh... It the closest thing to the windows phone experience I have found. It doesn't always understand what I said though. Two things would make it perfect. 1) the ability to add more to a message rather than having to compose the entire message in one breath & start over if you mess up. 2) have it read the name of my contact instead of the phone #. I don't memorize phone numbers anymore.

Used to work seamlessly with the android auto in my car. The app reads out notifications from selected apps not currently supported by android auto. Recently though, I noticed that it's not reading out notifications any longer. I deleted the "HandsFreeLink" bluetooth profile and recreated but still it is unable to detect the profile when I try to execute a "Test Reading". I have confirmed that the phone is connected to the car bluetooth. I paid for the app btw.

Pet. L. Jan 27, 2019

very granular controls. pretty intuitive. solid performance. great value at $0.99 for fully unlocked version allowing notifications beyond sms and calls. group text is clunky as every number and contact is read. upgrades are consistently good - none yet that caused any problems. if you don't need bleeding edge or tons of bells & whistles, then this is fantastic app.

Love the app, got the full version for the reply function which is very cool. Would rate 5 stars except I have to restart my phone several times a day because the app stops reading out incoming texts. Any idea why this would happen? Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017), Oreo. Supplemental: because of the app's declining reliability, have had to delete a star. Its repeating failure to keep reading out incoming texts is becoming seriously annoying. I can't be restarting my phone repeatedly all day long, and even that doesn't ensure functionality. Will revisit when and if the problems are fixed, meanwhile I'm looking at options.

With the latest version, when I get a message, the app asks if I want to hear it then I hear a weird beep while I am Trying to say Yes I want to hear the message. The app doesn't hear me and reasks then it gives up. Now a loud environment and yes it's while I am connected via Bluetooth. Please fix as this version is useless. Developer after two attempts does not respond.

Syncs my Android to my Prius. The setup isn't very intuitive and takes a little trial and error to figure it out. It can get glitchy at times (ex: if you hang up before the voice prompt finishes reading a text, it will not read future messages until you reset your phone). Overall, it does the job and keeps me hands free.

love this app. Interface a bit wonky, but VERY helpful. I'm a bike courier, and this helps keep my eyes on the road and my feet moving. Some of the delivery apps i use just changed how they handle notifications - causing this reader app to have issues. but luckily there are advanced per app settings i could use to get things working again!! love it.
