Used to be my favorite app, and I still use the website (though it's so hard to read anymore, I'll probably ditch that too). I've been using the website for about 8 years. The app has slowly become unstable. It never (and I do mean never) loads the first time. I have to start it, close it, then restart it, EVERY TIME. It also has problems syncing. I have a recipe I entered on the website, it synced to the app, but only brought over the first and last ingredient (plus all header lines), and the first and last instruction lines. So 90% of the recipe is missing. This has been happening more and more, but isn't consistently an issue. I always use the same two devices (laptop and mobile phone). Twice now I have edited a recipe on the app to tweak it (as you do when you've been making the same recipe over and over) and had it wipe out the entire recipe upon save. I need this app to do one thing well: reliably sync recipes with the website in a searchable format. I don't use any other features, this is the sole thing I need it to do. It can't do that any more, so I'm looking elsewhere.

I really want to love this app as much as I love your site... It is really easy to use to plan my week food wise, even if I have never been able to import automatically a recipe from any of the "supported" sites. I really like the fact it synchronizes with my pc and so I can write my recipes there and have them on my phone all the time. The problem with the mobile app is that it launches perfectly the first time, I can write/read recipes, plan a week, etc., if I want to do something else I should use the "home" button to leave as the back button never works. That is a minor issue. BUT! ok, I'm out, so how to go back in? To go back into the app after it has been launched previously, I have to go to the little "Square" that shows me all the apps in memory and select pepperplate from there, because if I try to relaunch it from its icon (on the app list), it will show the "pepperplate" black screen and will never move from there. I've leave it for up to one hour and nothing happens! After that, every attempt to get into the app (whatever method I use) is the same, so the app won't work until I uninstall and re install again. That's so tiring and frustrating. After several times in this loop I'm honestly thinking to move to another app, unless you could provide with a solution because as I said, I really want to love this app!

Used to be my favorite recipe/cooking app after doing a lot of searching around. It was the best digital recipe app that gave you all the control of adding your own (without pushing outside sources). All the same reasons to use the app are still there, but it has become more and more buggy, crashing and hanging, and it has started to fall behind in useful features to new, more frequently updated apps. I've since switched to a different paid one.

Excellent Meal planning App This app has most of the features of paid apps for free and it doesn't bombard you with adds. You can add your own recipes, and separate them into categories, add the ingredients to a shopping list, and add the recipes to a planner in calendar format. It's cut my grocery bill in half. It does take some time to set up your own recipes. Cons: sometimes crashes when pressing the categories button in the recipes section and the shopping list isn't super intuitive.

This app is great, but finding out that it was going from completely free to a subscription model for $33 a year... nope. I would have gladly paid for a straight up purchase, but not a recurring fee that is significantly above what other similar apps charge. Fortunately, this price inspired me to look for alternatives and I found a great one called The Cookbook App. It has everything Pepperplate has, and more (OCR, step by step cooking mode, text to speech), and its a single, upfront cost of $6.49.

I'm disappointed at the lack of info moving from a free model to subscription. Been a user for many years; app + site have always 'worked', but can't say it's anything special worth paying for. It's basic & hasn't had any visible updates in years. I've been using it for easy search & categorisation, and scale recipes up and down - but now that it's paid for, I'll be moving my content to a notepad tool that can do 80% of that, for free! Treat users with care, or you lose users you had!

this app used to work really well but for the last 12-18 month's there has been a consistent problem with importing recipes. First is the message that the site isn't supported (they are), then the message that an error has occurred and a report logged. I've messaged the help desk and been assured that they are aware of the problem and working on it. Well many month's later it is the same old issues. Advertisers, partners beware the app is not looking after your interests!

Like many reviewers on this page, I've used this app for years and have it on a tablet in my kitchen. I really don't mind paying once for an app, but a subscription of this much money is way out of line. I paid for one year but if there are no big changes I won't be renewing. This used to be a good go to app, but for the subscription price, the only thing you get is the ability to keep using the same app. You guys better reevaluate this whole business model if you don't want to lose your entire fan base. The thing that's really upsetting is that it is a good solid app, but if you want to charge this high of a subscription, then you better have some mind blowing updates in the wings to keep people coming back. There are a lot of different recipe app options out there now and people will not hesitate to switch apps for this price.

This is the best. I have tried many recipe, meal planning apps and this one does everything I need. I can import recipes or enter my own. I can plan meals and add recipes to shopping lists. I can sync between phone, tablet or my laptop. The only thing missing is the ability to share recipes with others. That's not a big deal though because I can always send a screenshot. Thank you for a wonderful application!!!

App works as expected most times. Was a good thing when it was free. Like others said, I wouldn't mind paying a one time fee to have the app but not another subscription. Not everything needs to be a subscription, especially when we are storing just text and some images possibly. No, not for this app that, to me, hasn't seen an update since I started using it years ago.

Been using and loving this app for years. I've spent countless time adding and updating recipes to streamline menu planning and shopping, and to find out after over 6 years that you are going paid, and I will be losing all access to my recipes in 2 weeks was a slap in the face. So much work adding and inputting info all lost, and with basically no notification just made it that much worse. It's a great app, but after that? No thanks.

Without the bugs it would be PERFECT! It does not allow you to import recipies. When I contacted them they said they were aware of the problem and try to enter the ULR differently. I did and it worked twice, but not after that. All recipies have to be entered manually which takes a lot of time, so I haven't used it as much as I hoped. Once the recipies are entered it is great to be able to plan and add to a shopping list. I'd like to be able to increase or decrease the servings too though

txe. Mar 19, 2020

They tell you that it isn't free when you've already created an account and started using it, so they get your email. Also, I only had the time to introduce three recipes before I learnt that I had to pay to use it, but i noticed that after synchronizing it, the images on the recipes disappeared. Very disappointed. Difficult to trust on these guys again.

Ber. Jan 26, 2020

Worked alright a few years ago, copied a few recipes over. The import functionality started to work less and less over time. Now (2020) the company decided that they're switching to a subscription model. This would be understandable if it was a better product and inexpensive, but it is neither. This is it for me, copied my recipes over to OneNote and I'd advise the same for anyone considering this app. Why pay for a crappy service when you can get a much better experience from Microsoft.

Tif. G. Feb 20, 2020

I've used it for years. Mainly when on the go and can't remember what's in a recipe. I'm willing to pay one time, reasonable fee, but not pay a monthly sub for something I can easily just store as files on my cloud storage/onenote. Never been able to receive tech support and little has changed with this app in nearly 10 years, last update was nearly 2 years. There are too many free alternatives with better options, work with Alexa, etc. I printed my recipes and deleted account. Bye, felicia

Jam. H. Feb 25, 2020

Just looked at the app to pull up a recipe, only to find it is switching to a monthly subscription model. As soon as I copy my recipes to Word I am removing the app. The app / website have been stagnant for years, but good enough for what I needed. But now that they want to change a fee, and add nothing of value, it is time to move on. I courtesy email would have gone a long way to improving my opinion about the change, but all I got was a small banner saying my trial was going to expire in 12 days. Since I never signed up for a trial, this put a bad taste in my mouth (unlike my recipes that I love)

Bob. M. Jan 20, 2020

Used to be good, but hasn't updated functionality in forever, and is now charging a subscription to use. The worst part? No way to export recipes, so I can use a better service now that they're charging money. I'll have to do each recipe one by one. For an idea of how little updating is done, and why I don't want a subscription, the developers have been planning an export feature since 2012. There's a help desk post on it.

Ale. R. Jan 26, 2020

This app requires a subscription, which was not clear to me. I would pay a one time fee, but I am not interested in anything that charges ongoing fees. The app is okay in theory but feels like it's in beta - the planet and shopping list and recipe features don't link to each other in an intuitive way. I wasted a lot of time importing recipes only to find out this this is a subscription service. Don't waste your time!

Nat. K. Apr 5, 2020

This was a decent app though the interface was quirky and slightly amateurish but as it was free that was ok. Shocked to receive an email years into having it to say that I was on a free trial and even more shocked to hear it would be expiring and all my recipes lost unless I exported. Paid models are fine but generally you pay for more advanced features, not for the entire app and you dont reverse your policy after a user has signed up. Shame.

I've been a huge fan of Pepperplate for several years. It is easy to add and edit recipes. I love how the shopping list works (even offline). I love how it syncs with other devices ("Honey, can you run by the grocery store, please?"). And it was all free! BUT IT LOOKS LIKE IT IS NO LONGER FREE...apparently you will now be needing a paid subscription. I just received notice that in 13 days I will be charged for my account or my free trial will be over. :(

Ste. Z. Mar 23, 2020

Fee's are OUTRAGEOUS!!! Made me look for something better and FOUND IT. "My Recipes Cookbook: Recette Tek". It's everything Pepperplate was & MORE. The free version is fantastic and if you CHOOSE to pay a one time fee of around $8.00 it gets rid of a small ad plate at the very bottom of your screen, but never really gets in the way anyway. Thanks Pepperplate, I wouldn't have found this without your motivation. I never realized how truly bad your app is until I checked out Recette Tek.

Twi. Jan 24, 2020

Been using this app for 6 years and it's worked well even if some functionality was wonky, like not being able to select which items I want to add to my grocery list. Now the app and the web based version is going subscription based. Like others said, no export feature so I'll be having to screen shot everything

T.. B. Oct 26, 2020

They started charging a subscription fee out of the blue, and to make it worse, they LOCK you out of access to your recipes unless you pay. Been using it for YEARS, no warning, no nothing, just BAM! "Pay up or no more." Was already riddled with ads. Get RecipeSage instead. Even has an import FROM PeppeePlate option, so you lose nothing by switching. Ditch these doublecrossers and don't look back.

Ash. N. Oct 11, 2020

This app was fine when it was free, but they're charging now with no upgrades in features. Need to buy tinned and fresh tomatoes? The app will combine them for confusing shopping trips. The bookmark tool is a joke, ingredients disappear off your list, and tech support only cares about getting sales. Seriously, don't waste your time.

ase. Feb 27, 2019

Do not use this app; it is no longer supported. Functions don't work right and you will be wasting your time as you will lose all of your recipes when it eventually crashes completely. Today I got a warning notification that it may not work with my new version of Android. I highly recommend CookBook. It is awesome and has even better features. I'm in the process of manually transferring all of my recipes. Don't board this sinking ship!

Eri. K. Feb 12, 2020

I've used this app for years and it was decent for a free app, when it worked correctly. For moderate support and updates, I'd consider a one time fee, or ads, but to turn this already lacking service into a subscription model is absolutely ridiculous. Perhaps, they should have created a new "Pro" app with more features worth paying for, and keeping this one free, but they fumbled and there's no recovery. I've copied all of my recipes to Google Docs, and I'll be uninstalling Pepperplate for good. Such a shame!

Mik. B. Jan 24, 2020

Pepperplate was an OK app for free. The basic database worked well. The import feature rarely worked. Synching between the web site and mobile for shopping lists was probably the best feature for me. I logged on today and found out they have pushed me to a 14 day trial and I have to pay $3,99 a month or move all my recipes elsewhere. They also have no way to back up or export my recipes. Basically, this is extortion. Until they get the app far more polished, it is not worth the money as there are better and cheaper options available. GOODBYE Pepperplate! I'm sure you will disappear as an app and company soon.
