If you're coming from Canon you'll be SO disappointed! With Canon I used to transfer all my photos to my cellphone after a day shoot so simply, just click "transfer all photos" and all would run smoothly. With this Sony app the transfer NEVER goes all the way through, so I have to select as few photos as I can and stay by the phone to see if it will stop or WHEN will it stop with an error message saying "couldn't obtain image" so I have to start all over again. Incredibly bad and unstable app!
I don't even know were to start. After struggling with the app for a solid 2 hours the only thing I manage to do is sending and compressed jpeg of the current photo to my phone via the NFC tag and it works 50% of the time. The other functions advertised here? It just doesn't work as the wifi connection disconnects before doing anything. It's unreal that a company like Sony has this kind of app for so long (judging by the other comments). What drives me the most crazy it's that it is a feature they are really proud of and show on the camera's box itself... Sony, what exactly are you waiting for ? It's 2019, communication between devices is a thing for like 10 years now. The brand image you are showing here is catastrophic.
Doesn't work at all 😒 I have tried pairing my camera and my phone through NFC, Bluetooth, wi-fi (QR code and password) and nothing works at all. I mean come on Sony, your cameras are great but with the price we pay for them, they should have a decent app to easily transfer photo to a smartphone. It's the worst app for a connection camera/smartphone I have seen and I have tried a few different brand.
I rarely find an app to be that useless. Paired with my a7iii, I can't set focus, can't shoot time lapse, can't do much actually except pressing the shutter. If I switch to another app or turn my phone's screen off, I have to reconnect to the camera again. Feels like an app from another decade.
I am very happy with this app. It does everything it claims. I was a bit skeptical after seeing all of the bad reviews but after using it, I give it 5 stars. I use a Google pixel 4a phone and a Sony FDR-AX43 camera. The pairing process went very well and after the suggestion of turning off blue tooth, the remote display was very smooth. It seems a little light on features, but all of the basics are there and they all work. The menu grid looks like there's a lot of room for expansion.
I have love/hate relationship with this app. Ultimately however, it provides a lot of functionality for my work. Can't really complain about a free product that expands my shooting possibilities. Yes - I wish the photo preview would be faster after triggering the shutter, as I find myself ocassioanly waiting for this to appear for several seconds. Since I take multiple exposures - these can add up quickly to your total time spent at the photoshoot. But since its a free app...
Used to work, now all I get is "starting the function failed. Please check if your smartphone has been connect to the intended camera" error, which is has via the QR code, and acknowledged prior to the transfer. Mind you, I've been using this app with this camera for almost a year and all of a sudden it doesn't work anymore. Also, it keep loses connection to the server so I can't log in on the device.
Great app saved me from purchasing a cable shutter release. however I agree with other reviews in that it should allow for raw file transfer. Please please please allow RAW file transfer. I am pretty sure it has nothing to with the size of the file as the app already allows for large video files to be transferred.
I have the A7Riii and it keeps saying disconnected. I found on a Samsung forum that you have to turn off mobile data. After i did that i could connect one time. Problem solved so i thought. Well, now i can't connect anymore. My camera is known in the app but no connection. Tried everything, wifi, nfc, QR. Nothing! If you have to jump through all these hoops to make something work it's useless. Why does it have to be so complicated??
This app was bad before, but now it's even worse! Extremely slow and tedious process for transferring images from camera to phone via Wi-Fi. If it even connects... Only works about 1% of the time .. If you're lucky. Unable to connect phone to camera to use as a remote through app. Confusing UI. Sony needs to spend some resources on developing this app because it's horrible!!!
I feel like this app was designed to be incredibly frustrating. It doesn't work. There's no way to get it to work as a remote control for the camera, even following the instructions and making sure the camera (which was not cheap!) is for sure compatible. The camera shows up on the app, but there's no buttons or tabs or settings or anything to access the part of the app that functions as the remote control for the camera. I can only view images I already took on my camera.
When this app works it is at best average. It transfers photos and does minimal remote control functions. When it doesn't work, which is often, it makes you want to gouge your eyeballs out. This version is advertised as working the A7iv. This a lie. It does not pair with the A7iv. An hour of chat with Sony tech support, changing all the settings seemingly randomly, did not make my new (Sony!) Xpedia phone pair the A7iv with the app. Garbage! Pure garbage.
Just far too much setup and steps and questions to start importing. Why so much complexity for a simple app? Photography requires reliability and speed when on the go and this app failed at both. Crashed on first WiFi transfer attempt. Need to rethink the UX flow. Should be one scan of a QR code and ready. That's it. No account. No steps. One action.
Honestly, this app has tons of potential. I have to delete and reconnect devices every time, which is very tedious. I have come from another app that lets you focus the camera by touching the screen, something that this app CAN NOT DO. Otherwise, the file transfer is nice, except for having to reconnect the device every time. If you fix these Sony, this is a five star app. If not, it's pretty useless.
Doesn't work. I wasted 20 minutes trying to connect to the camera, until another review mentioned to connect the phone to the camera's wlan. When it finally connected and showed the camera's view, none of the pictures were actually taken! I pressed the shutter over 10 times and nothing happened, even though the app made it look like the pictures were taken!
Updated December 2021. App is still awful. Just terrible. Using for photo transfer, my biggest gripe is that photos get sent across to my phone in a completely random order. Took those photos in a specific order as an event unfolded? Well now you can enjoy figuring out the order from the ridiculous sequence the app makes. There are numerous other issues too but I don't have the word count. If I could transfer my photos straight from my camera in another way I'd delete this in an instant.
Very slow, so annoying that you have to pair every time you want to connect. I cant find in my gallery the imported photos, and i still didn't figure out how is possible to connect with Bluetooth. Is just so difficult everything to find. Sorry Sony, i love you but you could do this much better. I can compare with Quik, the app of GoPro, and that's working amazing.
A poorly made app that hardly manages to deliver its primary functions. Unfortunately, there are no alternatives available. During image transfer: - it stops transfer if you blocked or just left the app - it doesn't understand which photos are already loaded. It just starts another transfer - can't do this via cable to speed up the process Overall, it just lacks basic UX. Pretty clear that there was no UX/user flows research.
The audacity to have us invest thousands in Sony gear just to be slapped in the face with this pathetic excuse of a broken app is nothing short of insulting. One day it works, the next you spend 2 hours trying to transfer 1 single image and be met with nothing but back to back connection errors. Infuriating. The features of this app are extremely limited. A sliver of settings can be adjusted from the phone. It's been broken for years. Sony has done nothing about it. Time to switch systems.
A definite improvement! I used to struggle getting photos transferred, and setting up the remote control feature. Works much more smoothly with fewer failed attempts. Suggestion for next update? Allow me to take continuous photos while in remote mode, rather than only being allowed single shots. (RX10M4)
Could do so much more for such a brand like Sony. It is a pity that we cannot transfer raw files and original video files. The stability of the WIFI connexion is not optimal. The interface is not intuitive. And it would be great if we could delete picture from the app to the SD card to cull pictures on your mobile device.
