Resham Bandhu

In the year 1943, the premier & prestigious institute of the country for research on sericulture activities was established at Berhampore, Murshidabad district of the then undivided Bengal in the name of Central Sericultural Research Station (CSRS) under the proficient leadership of Shri. C. C. Ghosh, Special officer (Silk), Govt. of Bengal, as a part time officer/In-charge. In the year 1948 Central Silk Board was established by an Act of Parliament. In December, 1956, Dr. D.P. Roy Chowdhury was appointed as a temporary Director of Research of Central Sericultural Research Station (CSRS), Berhampore. Later on, in 1957, an abridge report on the working of CSRS from 1943 to1948 was reviewed by the then Textile Commissioner and Chairman, Central Silk Board and Dr. D.P. Roy Chowdhury was appointed as the permanent Director of Research. Afterwards, reorganization & expansion of the institute was recommended in line with the Japanese Sericulture Research Station. In the year 1969, CSRS was brought under the technical and administrative control of CSB. In 1980, CSRS was renamed as Central Sericultural Research & Training Institute (CSR&TI). Since then this institute has been rendering outstanding services to cater to the need of the sericulture farmers of 13 states located in eastern & northeastern regions of the country viz., West Bengal, Orissa, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura and Arunachal Pradesh. The institute, since inception, has developed many technologies and disseminated those technologies time-to-time to the farmers’ field for its adoption. With the advancement of technology CSR&TI, Berhampore has been trying to reach the stakeholders for communicating the research & technological developments in further better manner with the help of IT initiative. In this view, a Mobile App named as Resham Bandhu has been designed & developed with a view to provide useful information to the farmers, sericulturists and any interested persons as an user-friendly reliable tool for Android Version. It is able to provide information on different aspects of sericulture technologies that includes moriculture (mulberry plant), sericulture (silkworm Bombyx mori L.), Reeling, Human Resource Development and Extension activities pertaining to this zone. It also provides a facility of a ready reckoner for estimation of quantum of different pesticides, fertilisers & chemicals, raw silk output and cocoon price etc. This is the first version (1.1) of Resham Bandhu works on static mode. In future, it is likely to be upgraded to dynamic mode through which a direct interaction with the farmers/beneficiaries will be ensured which is expectedly more helpful for the stakeholders. Hopefully this app will provide instant hand-on information to the beneficiaries with its present form and for any further queries they may contact the subject matter specialists of this institute through the email id [email protected].
