Pleasantly surprised to see VBlank is still supporting this version of the game four years later! The DX+ update adds animated cutscenes and character portraits, eschewing the static assets of old. If I were to make one little change, it would be to allow Players to toggle between the classic and revised cutscenes/portraits as they see fit, for those inevitable purists out there.
Love it! Takes me back to the first GTA. 8-bit city-wide mayhem! Simple and intuitive controls and gameplay. I'd love to see you guys bring Shakedown Hawaii to mobile. Absolutely love the empire building aspect to that game and would love to see that level of depth in a future update.
In a nutshell this is GTA demake with plenty of references. Cars drive like in "Jackal". Great game for chromebooks with no touchscreen as Keyboard and gamepads are supported. "zoom out" the display from settings if you are playing this on a large screen.
The soundtrack alone was worth the download. Hilarious side quests and hours of discovery make this one of the best games on Android. There's really nothing else like it. I'm really hoping that they choose to release the sequel.
Great game to pass the time! I own the sequel "Shadown Hawaii" on my Nintendo Switch and I just wish the developers would take the time to port it over to Google Play and IOS as it features better graphics and way more to do! This is still a great game with many easter eggs and gems! I would recommend it to anyone who played the classic GTA games or even chinatown wars! If the developers could respond to this post about any future plans to port over the sequel, I would really appreciate it.
This is an amazing game . I paid for this version to have on my phone. I also paid the $10 to have it on my 3ds as well. As of last night I paid the $15 to have Shakedown Hawii on my 3ds as well. It's awesome to have Retro City & Shakedown both together side by side. If you love old school over top view GTA and 1980s & 1990s pop culture then you'll love this game.
It plays great without any glitches! Controls very well. Looks and sounds great if you like the retro style games. By far the best GTA style game for mobile! 80s cameos are lots of fun!
On screen vehicle controls are awful which makes it unplayable for me. I don't know why they couldn't just use player moment controls for the vehicle too.
Pixel theft auto: Chinatown wars is a remake of waveracer64. Probably the second best money I've ever spent*. An increadable, atmospheric and packed open-world just waiting to be explored. The top down style pays homage to its predesors for example: stealey Wheely automobeely. Thats it. I especially like the art style; bright, colorful and unique. If you want a good game, I don't know how you're here, but buy it. Truly a masterpiece of a game. *The best money Ive ever spent was Gromit Mug
An older game that has been upgraded well over the years and still holds up today. This is the fill package and offers a ton of content with loads of references and nods throughout gaming history. The price is well worth it and I easily would of paid more and not batted an eye.
Make the controls more customized and could to possibly add a online mode. Also make more player customization. Other than that the game is awesome.
Achievements don't often trigger in Google Play Games, and can't be unlocked without deleting your data and trying again. Otherwise, a terrific port of a silly and entertaining GTA-esque game.
I like the references to other videogames, the time-period and the retro graphics style. You have tons of options to customize the looks and it is fun.
I may not have known about this game when it was called by other names but when I mistakingly got this as WiiWare I had no clue what I got, when I sat down and played this I bloody loved it, from the pop culture references to the feel of the game it was just my kind of game. Then I got the 3DS version of RCRDX and my god it was still good, now I have landed upon this glorious port, thank you so much. And stop blueballing us with Shakedown Hawaii it just makes me want to play RCRDX more! XD
A game that will mostly take most of your time. The Story is hilarious, the gameplay is very nostalgic, yet feels very fresh. Overall the game is amazing.
So much fun. I would recommend anyone that likes reto games and the original 2D GTA style type of game. I love how this game pays home age to a number of classic games from back in the day. There is a lot of enjoyment to be had here.
In story mode can't progress past the first tutorial where it asks me to choose between automatic and manual control. Nothing happens no matter what I touch.
For one I want a refund, I was able to get only past the first mission which is to get to the hideout then right after that everything just went to hell, NPCs were more prone to wanting to kill you, car movement started getting slightly buggy, and to add on my phone heated up, and so I had to wait for about an hour before I could try to even play it. to be fair though, the free roam is amazing and the SEGA code cheat is a hilarious homage, I still need my money back though.
This isnt just a GTA clone with retro graphics. It is so much more and has loads of classic references in it which is half the fun for me. If you played NES games, you'll love this.
Pop Theft Culture: Vice City Take the pre-3 GTA top down formula, throw in more 1980's references to feel/video game culture than "Ready Player One", add some nostalgiatastic 8/16 bit pixel graphics and chiptunes, and bake until playable in DOS on an actual 3.5" floppy disc, and you'll have some idea what this game is.
I Fricken Love It! Plus the game was developed in my hometown! It's allot like the original GTA games for the old Playstation, only improved and not to mention very comical too.
I love this game, they have so many references and parody. The gameplay feels so fresh and the control are soo goood. Worth it!!! What are you waiting for? Buy It Now!
This is what a quality game looks like. It doesn't need to be 3D, it doesn't need to have DLC, and it certainly doesn't need a top notch orchestra... no, all it needs is a little chiptune love, good ol' homebrew representation, and most of all... some true dedication and appreciation, and that is exactly what this is. Best of all, even the NES rom was fun to play and worth keeping.
