Great content but poor development. The guided audio tours on this app are amazing. Too the point, entertaining and the directions to navigate are perfect. Only thing is that the development makes it a bit clunky. Still, had a good experience and would highly recommend.
We visited Venice, Florence, and Rome. I am sure we would have figured things out on our own, but Rick saved us a ton of time! I highly recommend getting his books for wherever you plan to visit. These guides are a perfect supplement to those books. The only negative I have (not worth docking a star) was for the Uffizi Gallery. Several rooms have been remodeled, so the audio guide will get you lost. It would help if the chapters started with the room number or gallery you are supposed to be in.
Helped me a lot on my quick visit to London. He skips intricate details and gives the essentials. Just the right level humor without distraction. He should offer paid packages tailored to user's needs. Map is not perfect and you need to swap between a map application. GPS positioning and more detailed direction could be added. 20s rewind button let's you go back when you miss something they said but unfortunately there is no 20s forward button. Audio download does not work in the background.
Crashes frequently in airplane mode. Swapping from map to audio causes lack of response in app as well as window shade. OH! And I can't figure out how to exit gracefully, I had to force close it from the app details page. I'll go back to the free mp3s I guess.
Fantastic app! Saved a small fortune in audio guides at major attractions across Europe using this app. From my experience, Rick's guides are better than the paid audio guides many sights offer, with much more humour and history interlaced. The City Walking Tours became a must on our recent trip to Europe and acted as a great way to orient ourselves in each new city while picking up travel tips and history along the way.
Beautifully presented and well thought out. This app and its audio walking tours are a MUST have companion which allowed us to fully appreciate the great cities of Rome and Venice. It is truly amazing that the app is free given the amazing content within!
Awesome and free application, it saves a lot of money because you don't need to buy special tickets with audio guide! Perfect for visiting Rome, we use it for that purpose!
The app is very helpful. Two suggestions: 1. Let us read the script AS we're viewing the photos (split screen or auto-scrolling text), and 2. Put LOTS more photos. Every time you describe a different building or park, show a picture of it. This helps me BEFORE I travel to get acclimated and do my planning.
Mixed results so far. Good in most sites in Florence. Really enjoyed the walking tour of Rennaisance Florence. As of late October 2018, the Uffizi tour was worthless. Not Rick's fault, the exhibits had moved, but regardless of fault, I recommend not relying on this for the Uffizi.
Just got back from Spain and Italy and I can't believe this app is free. It literally saves you a ton of money and time and gives you a lot of great insight into the places you are visiting. When I went to visit the Sistine Chapel my guide was not allowed to talk to me but I got a great explanation of Michaelangelo's paintings. I loved the heart of Madrid, Rome, and Naples walks, they made the areas come alive with just the right mixture of humor and history. Wish there was a fast forward button
good but it drives me crazy that it won't close fully and that I have to force stop it each time to remove it from my notifications bar. content is interesting, but you can't tell when they were published/how up to.date things are.
love the city walking tours! concise, hokily-humorous, full of local color, and easy to follow. good maps for the walking tours. the audio pieves are also v interesting, and a good way to spend travel time.
Rick Steves's audio tours are a fantastic way to get a deeper understanding of places you may visit. They are easily as good as the commercial on-site options (if they even exist), and they're free! The local interviews also offer interesting insights
I rarely write reviews on PlayStore but this app is just outstanding! Thank you for making our Rome trip magnificent! Your guides are the best thing we could bring with us! Heart of Rome, Trastevere, Roman Forum, Colosseum, Pantheon... all so stunningly great! We regret paying for Vatican official audio guide because yours was better, we've listened to it when we got back home. Thank you Rick so much! We can't wait to explore more cities with you!
Great information in an app that is horrible. No notification bar for quick pause/resume/20 sec back. The app will quit while you take photos (a popular task while at museums).
Found this guide much better than any other audio guide available at every place in Europe. Steve's narration brings in a different charm. One possible addition could be integration with GPS for real time guidance along the routes and orientation.
It really helped with my first trip to the Colloseum, the Roman Forum, the Vatican Museum incl Sistine chapel, the Jewish Ghetto, St Peter's Basilica, the Pantheon and more. This saved us money and was very informative and allowed us to have our own experience visiting the historical sites. Keep doing this great work as I will be using it on my next trip!
Great Audio tours. Better than many others and gives you a focus when you are wandering around. Also love the podcasts that help you get into the ambiance of a new country or culture.
Excellent! It has different options for the amount of time one has to enjoy each city. I recommend it, no matter what experience level you have as a traveler
Love the Rick Steeves' Travel App!! I have used it travelling Europe: Scotland, England, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Greece, Turkey etc - it's by far my favorite tech travel companion!! Love the city walks, they provide an excellent orientation: London, Lisbon, Rome, Athens, Istanbul... Love exploring ancient sites: Stone Circles, Colosseum, Pompeii Acropolis, Ephesus Love the insights: Scotch,Fado, Jinjinia... My only wish we had a Rick Steeves App for travelling Asia, Americana and Oceania!!
Great for visiting a new place or learning about a familiar place. The app is easy to use and the ability to load the audio tours individually is good.
This app is great and but could use a little TLC. My wife and I use it to get a toe hold in whatever country we are visiting but it is showing its age - especially the Android version. For example, it does not play well with bluetooth controls, it will often need to be force closed when not in use, and bluetooth audio can crackle and skip, etc. Still a great service that pretty much unrivaled.
