RideControl e-bike app

RideControl
e-bike app

The world of connectivity opens up for your Giant E-bike with the launch of our RideControl E-bike App. The RideControl app makes it possible to connect your phone with your E-bike. It differentiates itself from other cycling apps with three core functions including tuning possibilities, fitness interaction and notifications to your RideControl EVO screen. The Giant E-bike app is compatible with all our 2019 Giant E-bikes.

Tuning
With the Giant E-bike App, it is now possible to tune your motor settings and choose a support ratio most suitable for your riding style and terrain. You can choose between stronger, more aggressive performance, or tune it for a more comfortable ride. It’s up to you. The motor comes set with default settings and is adjustable with the App.

Navigation
Use the RideControl App for turn-by-turn navigation specifically designed for on the bike. If your bike is equipped with a compatible RideControl EVO display it will also show turn-by-turn navigation, so no need to keep your phone at hand.

Fitness
E-bikes offer a whole spectrum of riding possibilities—from making it easier to pedal and ride farther, to riding for fitness. The Giant E-bike App features new fitness functionalities so the rider can maximize their fitness gains and set goals by time, distance, calories or heartrate. By using the smart auto adjust support function, the system measures the amount of effort you have to put in to reach your heartrate goals. Feedback is displayed by the RideControl EVO display or directly on the App. After your ride, the App shows your accomplishments and performance including the human and motor consumption.

Hi. This was working fine until two weeks ago. I could fine tune the power distribution to my own preferences and would know how much battery capacity was left for long rides here in South Africa and Lesotho. There was a recent update and now the whole system has become unreliable .The app is not measuring anything any more and has become useless. I regret, because it was a good design a year ago...... PLEASE !!!!!!!

I like the idea of this, however like most people are saying its a hit and miss when it comes to connecting. When it does actually connect the only thing that works consistently for me is the ride map and the distance. Battery level if not showing 0 has varied on ride but then seems to lock and not change same with speed. As a person that like to do long distance trails, battery life is a big part for me. It would be great for Giant to get this fixed.

Just lost my ride because it failed to upload again. Also had connectivity issues with the bike which has actually been working quite well up to now. Seems there's still a few bugs to sort out. Keep having to delete and reinstall the app to get it to connect to the bike again. I've emailed the developer. If you're having connection issues please do the same so they sort it out

Works really well with Giant bike. After install, update your profile in the app to convert from metric to imperial units. Connected on first try. I've done 5 long rides already, and navigated successfully, and also used the "just ride" option to record my other journeys. When navigating, it doesn't speak directions, but gives plenty of notice when the next turn is coming. I also intentionally altered my route and it quickly rerouted. Don't yet know how many trips it will save.

"Activity upload failed" meaning i can't view (or upload) ANY commute data. This app bug means this software completely useless to me. Furthermore, running system "diagnosis" says there is no problem with my Quick-e+ 2019... however my bike electric assist randomly cuts out at various speeds, and the trip computer says my top speed is 665kmph, which is a speed I'm pretty sure i don't get up to ;) Diagnosis fail, trip data record fail. Just an overall fail.

As per other reviews here, the app drops connection with the bike and you lose your stats. Same errors with cloud icon and failing to upload data. Very annoying. Would be good to see the motor output Watts captured too, or perhaps total Watt, to do comparisons with non e bikes on strava. Despite latest updates the app still loses your ride data. Very disappointing app that cannot be trusted to do the job.

Potential to be better. Can only see stats and not the actual ride route map after a ride completes. App won't connect if bike is powered on after the app is opened. Cannot see battery remaining while a ride is in progress. App did successfully update my bike to the latest firmware without a problem. Edit:. Changed from three to one star. The app is now completely broken. It refused to upload my last two rides and now I cannot log in or connect to my bike to do or see anything. Frustrating.

OK when it's functioning. Needs more map detail. Tried to connect it to the bike today and it insisted on a ride control firmware update. This failed and froze the bike leaving the middle three lights flashing. I tried disabling the app and this unfroze the bike so it could be ridden without the app. I've tried deleting and re-installing the app which appears to have solved the issue... Not working again on Android, but app works on my partners iPhone. Useless. Good luck!

Absolutely garbage. I have tested with android 10, iOS. Got both to connect fine. As for android version, it doesn't do anything, doesn't even display battery percent. can't do anything other than change display setting. Best part is... once it is connect... my RideControl EVO locks up and non of the buttons respond. I had to remove battery. What a failure this is. Uninstalled.

Total fail. Says needs to update Bluetooth firmware, spends a bunch of time doing that, then starts over again. Says try replacing the battery: fail, needs to update. When I tell it to cancel, nothing happens, the bike computer stays on, but on "service," and I can't turn it off without taking battery out. Less that worthless. Deserves 0 stars, or -1.

Not only does it constantly lose connection with the bike even though they're right next to each other, I usually have to unpair and re- pair everytime I use it, it won't let me alter the motor assist levels (it just says 0% unknow and I cant adjust) and it seems extremely resource heavy. It doesn't seem to log the total km's done on this particular bike without having to add it all up. I paid 5.5k for this Liv Intrigue E Pro bike and got no LCD screen, just a useless app. Come on Giant.

It's not bad . It needs a few more features. like the ability to overlap and compare rides. A long term ride trends would be great, with the ability to add or remove data sets from the graph. would also be nice to just look at the routes in more detail on the map and add elevation watts etc to the map.

App doesn't save rides and using Diagnosis feature disables the lights on the handlebar control unit. Also says it is connected to the bike but then says it needs to connect and doesn't give you detailed options. Got the makings if a great aop but thus Android 9 version is worse than a beta test version. Needs urgent fixing to avoid bad rep and lost sales. Get on it Giant. Youve got to keep up. Looking fwd to improved version though, will be awesome.

I installed the app and ran the 'System Doctor', it stated "An error was detected please contact your Giant dealer". It found problems with the Ride Control Display and Energy Pack Battery (the Sync Drive Motor was ok). I phoned the dealership and then took the bike into the shop (a 40 mile round trip). They connected it to a PC based diagnostics tool, which found no problems at all. I then ran the System Doctor again, in case a firmware update had been installed during the PC base test, but it still found the same errors. I have rated the app as one star to draw attention to the aforementioned problem (I certainly don't 'hate it') . It looks really useful and might be worth more, but I have not had chance to use any of the other features yet.

Broke my ebike! Now it doesnt work! Just "spinning/loading wheels" on display. Connected to my bike with the charge display. Could not access settings to tune the bike. Would not show battery charge level. Toggled through settings in app. Sae I could change display settings only. The bike display just started spinning two zeros around in circles after that and it hasn't stopped. Bike no longer works. Need to take in for warranty or repair now.

Updated my review as my app updated tonight and rode control is no longer crashing when I start a ride. worked perfectly and logged the entire ride! As with others this app is currently broken. When you start a ride it instantly loses connection to the bike and it repeats this every time. Hopefully and update comes soon as so far it has never worked for me apart from being able to adjust power modes if need be.

Dav. J. Apr 2, 2020

I would give 0 if I could. The app worked well until the recent update and now it insists on installing firmware updates for RideControl, SyncDrive and Bluetooth. It then fails. Have tried several times and re-installing the app. Giant Sheffield quoted, £70 to sort it. So basically useless and I hope it has not screwed up the bike although it still seems ok.

The software update from 18/2/2020 does not work on Giant Explore e1 using Galaxy note10+. Bluetooth issues, locks the system and asks to call the Dealer. UPDATE 1: Success using older smartphone Galaxy S7. After the update it works now on Galaxy Note10+, updating is progressing slowly and it is hard to see it on the screen. UPDATE 2: Check power savings permissions for applications operating in background !!! for BLUETOOTH !!! and Ride Control, after adjustment, all ok now.

Android version. Had problems updating firmware with the app. Major headaches, as bike is new and I didn't know if I would keep the bike. Had someone else connect with an iOS device, updated, and Android app works fine. It seems pretty good once working, but should not have such problems updating - that's basic functionality.

The app has got even worse it's now in an update loop and won't connect, I now use my wife's IPHONE as that seems to work. "This app is awful, it doesn't connect first time and you have to play about switching the bike on and off and disconnecting the app to get it to connect. Once connected you can adjust the motor settings but as soon as you go into ride it crashes. With the amount of money you pay for an E Bike you would have thought Giant could have got the app right!!!"

2021 Trance X, was told app would connect to RideControl. It does NOT and I have no idea how far I've ridden, how fast I've gone, nor any of the other info I was told I would be able to get wirelessly. Very disappointed and I feel cheated. The wireless connectivity is one of the MAIN features that sold me on my VERY expensive purchase. Worthless and VERY upsetting. Considering fighting for a full refund and damages because of 'false advertising' and 'misleading claims'.

Just purchased a £3500 Giant Fathom E+1 Pro 29er. Expected the associated app to be as premium as their bikes. WRONG. This app is beyond useless. Constantly flips between saying bike isn't connected, then it is connected. Only use I can see is to adjust level settings in the 5 power settings. Got fed up waiting for 1st time connection to finish so I cancelled it, only to then be told it had connected. Really poor user interface, usability and feature poor. I won't be using this app.

W. M. Jun 6, 2020

Spent the best part of the day trying to get this to work, I've lost count of how many times I've installed and uninstalled the app. I just want to be able to change the power settings, don't care about the mapping as I use a Garmin for that. Giant Trance SX E+0 Pro costing over £5k and this app is ruining the experience of owning it! THIS IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH, GET IT SORTED!!!

Sup. V. Dec 8, 2019

1. App takes forever to connect (when it wants to connect too, as sometimes it doesn't connect at all). 2. The app goes to sleep while it's running. Completely useless. 3. It should be able to save the last data it has synced. i.e. bike stats, battery life, etc.

Thanks Mariusz. You solved my "Bluetooth software update" fail. Bike is a 2019 Road-E+. Installed app on Sony XZ2 Android 10 and made 3 successful updates but the 4th kept failing over and over. After reading your post I tried it on a 5 year old OnePlus Two Android 6.0.1 and it worked a charm :) Apart from this my only wish is for the app to let users more freely adjust power levels. I wish I could have Eco at 50% and Basic at 100% etc but this can't be done.

Just bought a new Giant ebike, I was told there was no point purchasing a competitors bike which had the fancy screen which showed speed distance etc, this was because there is a giant app which uses your phone. Absolute rubbish the app is buggy and crashes and was unusable, I tried to re download and it won't even do that. Absolutely appalling Giant this issue has been going for months with no action! Your customers are purchasing your products under promises that you are not delivering!
