RideSocial

Enjoy world's only mixed reality biking app to ride real-world video routes.

RideSocial is a free app that lets you select and install a selection of mixed-reality video routes from around the world.

A number of routes are regular view videos you can see on your phone tablet or TV screen (using HDMI + the Apple AV adapter, or Apple TV).

Certain routes are also in 360 VR so you can view them on a headset like cardboard.

IMPORTANT: Please note that the VR and 360 degree video functionality is recommended ONLY on newer devices (iPhone 7 and iPad Air 2 and newer).

For tracking, RideSocial can connect via Bluetooth to compatible Schwinn indoor bikes. Additional compatible trackers coming very soon. Manual speed input also available - just swipe up or down on the screen.

RideSocial is part of the same family that created RunSocial, a sister app dedicated to running. For more on RideSocial visit www.RunSocial.com. Whether you are a user, potential user, partner or just want to chat with us about mixed reality tech, feel free to email us at [email protected]

Nothing is intuitive in this app. I created an account. I connected my bike to Bluetooth. Then, under "Routes," I scrolled down to find the routes that aren't 360 or VR and clicked on one of them. I found my screen filled scenery, but also with data tables. I went to Settings and got rid of them so that I have data only at the bottom of the screen. It works well enough. I'd be happy with it, in fact, if it didn't have all these animated figures of bicyclists constantly going down the road with me. The squares of data over their heads doesn't make them any more pleasant. I guess that's where the "social" part comes in, but really I would really prefer to have the option to get rid of these other "bicyclists."

PLEASE READ. IMPORTANT A lot of the bad reviews are because of the VR routes. Use with a REGULAR VIDEO route. VR routes are mostly useless. There's a lot of bad reviews. If you try a VR route, they are justified. Once I found the REGULAR VIDEO route, the app was really nice. It's nice to see other riders around you. This is a perspective that no other program has. I'm not sure how they appear, and I have not been able to ride with them (they other disappear ahead, or they drop off when I catch back up to them), but it's cool when they appear. I think the VR is stupid. I would never wear a VR headset when I ride. I would sweat profusely under it, and would constantly have to remove it to wipe the sweat. It would probably look really cool, but until they come up with an air conditioned headset, it's not going to happen. As (at least) one reviewer said, the app does not let you recover a forgotten password. Nor does the RIDEsocial web page. But you can do it using the RUNsocial web page. I mentioned that to the developer so hopefully that gets fixed. The RPM on the stats is way off, but the speed is correct. It also displays the grade of the road. Since it doesn't adjust your resistance, it's a pretty useless stat. Overall, it's nice to watch the scenery as I ride, but it gets boring. Seeing the other riders is very inspiring (but see my update below). I HIGHLY recommend you try the program. It needs some work, but if you use the REGULAR VIDEO routes, I think you will enjoy it. Update: As far as the other riders go, they are spotty. Two riders are always there at the beginning of the ride. One passes me quickly. I chase them down, then they drop back and off. I slowed to stay with the other rider. I had to pedal about 80-90 rpm to catch them. Then I was doing 20-30 to have them stay. Kind of useless. I have written to the developer. They need to have riders who stay with you. This is such a cool program when you can see the other rider(s), but it gets a little boring just watching the scenery with no one else around. I'd rather read the paper.

Sorta cute, but a bit of a nuisance to use. Does not reflect your actual speed, so your avatar cannot pass other riders. Also, downloads take forever, and seem to delete themselves between rides sometimes. Worst is that you get stuck behind another rider and their avatar and profile box block your view. Better than staring at a wall, but does not live up to it's potential.

Cannot get this app to connect to the R616 Bluetooth with Android phone (Galaxy 9+, Note) or Apple iPad Gen5. No manuals, no tutorials. No way to recover a lost password. UPDATE ... After fooling around with the app, I finally figured out that you have to go through a series of steps to get this to work. Most "routes" need to be downloaded to a device (the server is rather slow). You must connect to the bike's Bluetooth each ride through the app ("connect BLE"), not the device. Videos are good.

Loads and you can look around at the start but video never advances. I email them about the issue and they responded asking me to see if it moved without connecting to the bike, but that did not work. They suggested it may be the devices computing power,, but I have an S9 that is fully updated so doubt that. I am currently awaiting their next reply. I will update review after they answer. Only reason I chose this Schwin 270 over others was the apps.

I was really looking forward to this app, when buying my Nautilus U616 bike. Unfortunately it doesn't work. The bluetooth connects and displays my speed, but it does not go anywhere. You just stare at the same spot while getting your mph. I ended up just watching Youtube videos.

Works great with the Galaxy 10e...smooth video even while streaming to flat screen via Fire TV Stick's screen mirroring setting! However, I don't understand why the downloaded videos mysteriously disappear without rhyme or reason...without warning! Can anyone explain this?

I have galaxy s9 and schwinn 170. At first I thought I had the same issue many had that it would not register my speed and the video would not move. After some messing around I found that if I hit the quick start button on the bike. It start to register my speed and start moving. Need to mess around more since I only had it for a day.

It's really cool in principle. I have a Pixel 3 and Google cardboard VR. And it is wonderful. Until it locks the moment someone passes me. Every time. Really frustrating because I can't exit. And Venice Beach/Santa Monica doesn't work unless I use VR.

Useless app that does not work if you do not have a VR setup? (Unknown, cannot test as i do not have a VR headset). VR routes does not run, the rest is just a variable rate video that does nothing to the bike. Just like a startup, a lot of promises, but nothing delivered.

synced with my schwinn 270. This app works great. I only use the regular view routes. I hope ridesocial expands the list of trails in regular view. I would even consider to pay for special event routes. Keep up the good work Ridesocial.

I made the account you tried it is 6 up with the biking everything. It registers my speed so it's picking up the computer, but what is the issue that it doesn't actually move. I've read many other people have this issue

fuc$ng sign up. no go. really expensive, Nautilus bike told me to sign up for this. will not let me even create an account. I gave you my email address and a username and a password but you won't let me hit the next button... tried for 15 minutes. I fulfilled everything you asked me to. super buggy. maybe fix this because it's 2019 already. geez. I think I'll just go outside.

I think this app is really cool, but it would be way better if the speed you were pedaling on your bike in real life would reflect in the app itself. The app works with the Samsung Gear VR if you download the Google cardboard app and use it through that.

It keeps telling me that I'm putting in the wrong password. YET, there's no way to retrieve your password if you do! It just gives you the option of clicking "Next", nothing for when you don't put in the right password?? What idiot wrote this app?

Jer. G. Jan 25, 2019

Fun app, but a royal PITA in that it won't allow users to store more than two courses and (somehow) it deletes courses between workouts.

Yan. M. Oct 16, 2018

Although it could connect to bike it (Schwinn 270), it doesn't read mph so is useless. The iPad app does work correctly (but can't use VR with iPad)

Fak. M. Oct 11, 2018

Very cool idea. Would be great if there was a 'download all' option for the routes, but otherwise a solid app.

Fie. I. Mar 28, 2020

Just started using this app. It is great. Only issue I have is with the 360 bike ride. As they do not work if you say you done have the headset

Ste. B. Feb 13, 2020

Connects to Nautilus U616, but like others have said, videos don't move, whether streamed or downloaded. Should have an option to store videos on SD card.

EMI. M. Feb 10, 2019

It worked for a few minutes an then got lost the Bluetooth. I may need a newer/better phone. Does notwork on tablets

Lyl. H. Dec 5, 2018

It seems after you hit the download map button you have to wait a very long time for the map to download and show up in the app

Nat. J. Jun 12, 2020

Unfortunately, after syncing, pedaling my Schwinn 170 does not cause any movement on the screen.

Dav. R. Mar 8, 2020

Took a bit to get working but is pretty ok. Shows some scenery, speed and time
