Rijksmuseum

RijksmuseumThe Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam has many of the world’s finest masterpieces and tells the most exciting stories. Over 8,000 treasures are displayed across 80 exhibition rooms, telling the tale of 800 years of art and history. A journey through time, spanning 1.5 kilometres, runs from the Middle Ages to the present day. Guided by this official Rijksmuseum multimedia tour, you can browse through the Rijksmuseum in any particular order, getting to know the artworks at your leisure. Or opt to follow one of the carefully selected tours of a selection of the museum’s highlights. The app is specially developed for use in the museum itself.
See More & Learn MoreThe Rijksmuseum app has a simple principle: See More and Learn More. The app works as a magic window, revealing remarkable stories and surprising details about the Rijksmuseum's collection as well as its architecture. Experts share their personal perspective on the Rijksmuseum objects.

Family QuestThe Rijksmuseum app includes a special Family Quest, which is a unique item within the app. This game can be played by a minimum of two and maximum of four players, each on their own smartphone.

The Family Quest takes families on a tour past eight objects in the museum, and at each one they are challenged to unravel its secret. The participants receive different kinds of tasks: sometimes an individual task on their own device, and sometimes group tasks on one of the devices. When all eight secrets have been revealed, there is a secret surprise ending. The Family Quest is suitable for adults and children from 6 to 12 years.

Special featuresThe Rijksmuseum app includes 3D-audio compositions. The soundscapes sweep you along in the atmosphere of each tour. You can easily save your favorites by clicking in the heart in the corner of the work of art that you like. You can find them afterwards in your own Rijksstudio on the website of the Rijksmuseum (www.rijksmuseum.nl). With your Rijksstudio you can collect artworks, order a reproduction of the artwork, or download an image so you make something yourself.

PracticalThe Rijksmuseum app also contains practical visitor's information, and schedule of the current activities in the Rijksmuseum.

How does it workYou can download the app before you even set foot in the Rijksmuseum and browse through the tour to prepare your visit. You can also download the app on arrival, using the free wifi network at the Rijksmuseum. It is recommended to bring your own headphones, to enjoy the full 3D audio experience. You can also purchase headphones in the museum for €1.50.

Visitors can also hire an iPod touch in the Rijksmuseum for €5.

While the app works fine at home, when I was in the museum yesterday, opening it just gave an error message that something went wrong. No matter how many times I tried - both while connected to the museum's WiFi and not - it refused to work. One I got home, it was fine.

Best museum app I have used anywhere in the world!!! This app sets the standard. It leads you effortlessly from one Masterpiece to the next where it provides interesting, insightful information . There is NO NEED to rent an audio-guide at the Museum since this app mirrors the guide exactly. (NOTE: While it is not required --- for the best experience bring your own headset.)

This guide is for people that have good orientation, otherwise you will get lost. It is not intuitive at all. My recommendation is to put numbers on each painting and then to put list on this guide.

I used it some moths ago just fine and now they just "stopped supporting" my device... come on, is just an android that works perfectly do not limit your app devices to the most recent so everything is flawles and you won't get bad reviews. Bad move!

a museum map would be useful

Confusing when you decide to syart the app once you're already moving in the museum. If each room was assigned a number and then type the number in the app, would be easier.

This is a great app for navigating the museum! So many useful features - I like how it shows you where the particular painting or object is in the room, for example. The detailed explanations were fantastic and informative. It really makes the experience complete. I would suggest that they review the map and navigation instructions. Typically, I am not map-challenged and I found it a little confusing. But, still, a great app. Thank you.

Very useful app but it is necessary to check foreign languages settings. Italian grammar is often incorrect.

The app is a disaster. I had only 3 hours for a tour, spent more time interpreting the maps. Saw one Rembrandt and one Vermeer and loads of medieval fluff of no interest. Maybe the museum is just badly organised like the app, but skip it and go to London our Paris or Rome for art.

It's a really useful app, it really enhanced my visit. Also I'm very excited about the well functioning state of the art technology used in the app

Really great app, a must for visiting the museum. This was the best museum app I've used, very easy to use, I enjoyed using the guided audio tour and individual piece lookup.

Can not exit the app!!!!

It contains narrated audio guidance, with tours across main exhibits. Beware the battery drain, though, it doesn't allow the screen to be turned off during narration, so after going through 2.5 hours I was left without power.

A must have if you are visiting. Great audio tour in English (and many other languages). Allow several hours for the visit, I recommend starting on the third floor (floor 2 since ground floor is 0) and working your way down

The Mauritshuis app is much better. Without headphones the Rijks app is useless as it's impossible to hear in the crowded gallery without annoying others. I would prefer reading text or have the option.

See more -Only audio. No video

I only gave 4 out of 5, because I found that it only gave a great performance IF you went into Settings/Apps and clear the cache for the app after each period/exhibition, otherwise the cache keeps growing and crashes the app.

App is great and usefull. Be aware though, uses about 120mb when used for a tour of about 1,5 hour
