The perfect app for those who value privacy and dont want their conversations being datamined. If I sign out of the app and sign back in, for instance to change identity servers, the device ID is regenerated, the E2E keys are all lost and all other devices in encrypted rooms have to be verified again. Is this behaviour expected? Also, the device can respond to modern verification requests from other platforms (eg riot desktop) but cannot initiate a modern verification request of it's own?
Great concept, promising but not fully fleshed out. Continually having to "verify" a ton of devices of other people's to be able to see the text is highly annoying and I dont even understand what it does. Suggestions: granular notification control (i.e., only username mentions, only certain convos).
I have been searching for a stable and secure messaging and video calling app for a long time but there has always been flaws with every app that makes me give up. This app is one of the better. I would give you five stars if the video calling wasn't mirrored and turns upside down when you tilt it.
People might still want to have different identities for different reasons so it's hard for me to see how you can state generally that there is no need for more than a single identity. Multi user support on one device would be great. Quote: "One single identity and place for all your teams: no need to switch accounts, work and chat with people from different organisations in public or private rooms: from professional projects to school trips,"
So we're supposed to export keys and then reinstall, but after the final update we can't export: the launch screen allows only reinstall, with no access to any other functionally. Am I missing something? (Kudos for the proactive security btw.)
I believe this is the future of internet comms. It's not a silo run by one company like whatsapp, facebook, etc. Instead this is an Open system: just as with email, everybody can sign up to different service providers, use different apps, and still talk to each other. Like with telephones. Like the Internet itself. The system is called Matrix, and Riot is just one (currently the best) of many apps that talk on Matrix.
Riot has helped unify several disparate chat systems into a single client for me. I have been using for many years now, and honestly theres little more I can say than it has been delightful, and the devs have come a long way. Some E2E stuff is finicky (like device verification) and people who arent ceypto nerds jave a hard time handling that, but overall it fills my need and I'm happy to support the project in the future.
A nice app, with lots of potential. It could use an option to blindly trust/verify krys/contacts, that an account has already verified once. Hope to see the developer stabilising & enhancing the encryption. Otherwise - nice job! Look forward to future updates.
The whole Idea of Matrix is very good. This app however need a lot of work. GUI is not so user friendly. Do not have "blind trust before verification". Settings are strange and complicated. The app is too heavy by size compared with presented services. Especially the last update bump the installed size from 57 MB to 83 MB. My opinion is that one normal IM app should not have size more than 25-30 MB like Threema, Conversations, Xabber. Otherwise will soon look like Viber, Messanger, Skype ...
Love love love this app. It is easy to use and allows us to quickly keep in contact with our loved ones via text or photo or video or video chat. It is very self intuitive so even those of us who are not so good at electronics can figure it out.
This is privacy-focused, which is surely a great and very important feature. The user interface is also excellent. This could actually replace WhatsApp and other Messengers!
My one complaint is that I can't figure out how to turn off "synchronizing" notifications, and sometimes they can't be swiped away.
This app also missing that we need to be able to create categories or headlines for our rooms. (that can be collapsed). having all rooms will be a huge mess with duplicate rooms for different projects. im looking for so ething like Discord but with a design for business not gaming.
Very slow with unreliable/broken encryption. This app needs a LOT of work before it is ready for prime time.
I never installed this [Old] Riot.im app, so i don't know what it is. I've installed and run Riot.im on all of my devices, including the hosting of several homeservers, but this app looks bogus, since I've only ever installed or used the regular client and continue to update it regularly.
I had to reinstall this app because i wasn't getting notifications from it .... and NOW i cannot open the settings without it crashing.. very disappointed.
The latest update signed me out, I couldn't use an email or phone number last time I registered now I can not log back in. I tried to reregister but I keep getting "registration has been disabled." I tried to google search the problem but was unsuccessful.
After the last update there is a notification "Initializing service", it won't go away no matter what you do. Please fix this.
Excellent matrix ecosystem chat client app! Stable, quick flexible with plenty of features.
An additional feature that allows to record and then send the recorded voice message would be appreciated.
Excellent open-source solution to a growing problem re: the privacy of our communications. Robust system architecture through the Matrix protocol!
Can't install the app. Google play says "Downloading..." forever. Other apps install OK.
a program that can not be used. I tried to make the record, but it did any password tells me that passwords do not coincide.
Feb 2, 2019 source works! everything. LED, notifications, everything!
app crashes immediately on start... i can provide extensive info on my device and os version
it gives this message " registration has been disabled ". I can't sign up.
Would love to see a more robust invite system. IE having it launch the store to install the device app
Had issues before but the update from earlier this week fixed them and improved other things. Well done!
Initial setup with multiple people + multiple devices was a bit daunting, but now works well. One huge benefit is that you don't need to provide a phone number or and email address -- finally! Disappointed that encryption is not enabled by default, but I assume this may come later. Calls have been working fine for me. I've not tried video calls. Keep up the great work!
