RoadRewards

Road Rewards gives you feedback about your driving, helping you to become a safer driver and earn great rewards.

Road Rewards observes and measures your driving activity and scores you on your driving. When you download the app you will be able to earn points for your safe driving that you can redeem for rewards. Road Rewards automatically detects when driving starts and stops, and uses the phone’s sensors to measure your vehicle’s driving dynamics. It uses low-power sensing methods to reduce battery consumption. The app shows you trip summaries, details on maneuvers, and gives you useful feedback to become a better driver. It also acts a low-power logger of all of your driving trips.

Your driving score is a weighted average of your trip scores. Individual trips are scored on a variety of driving measures, including acceleration, speeding, hard braking, phone handling while driving, and hard cornering/turning. Although these factors aren’t counted equally, each contributes to your final score. When you earn enough points you can redeem them for great rewards on everyday items like free coffee, discounted gas and free movie tickets. In addition to great rewards, you’ll also get tips and advice for safer driving.

Road Rewards runs in the background and uses GPS. Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.

You must be a Plymouth Rock Assurance Corporation Massachusetts private passenger auto insurance policyholder with the Road Rewards endorsement on your policy to be eligible to earn rewards.

I had the app for a short while, but then I realized it automatically picks up anytime you're in the car. App would work better if you had to turn it on or if it somehow knew you weren't driving. I wouldn't want this information to showhow impact my insurance rate. Ended up uninstalling the app. You also always have to keep the app working for it to work. Sounded like a cool idea though, but not for me.n

Mixed results. First, I drive slowly and carefully and always have. So, I feel that only good drivers will be motivated to use the app. What bothers me is that it does chew up batteries and will tell me that my location or wifi aren't working, when both are fine based on other usage. Needs a bit of work.

I think is a good app, but overall I don't think is accurate with all the results. I use the GPS on my phone and tracks it as a distraction. Also I was tracking my speed in one of my trips and it recorded a higher speed. I think this can affect how your insurance company sees the way you really drive.

What started out as a good monitoring app has gone downhill a lot. Speed limits are wrong or change up to 1 mile before the road signs change. A road I drive daily has a 3 mile section that is marked 45 mph, yet the app says it drops to 35 for a 1/2 mile in 2 areas, causing me to lose "points" daily. Worse yet my insurance company sees this info. I've shown them some of the errors and they are looking into other apps, but until then...

App was great at first. Worked as described and earned rewards. The app then disabled recording due to low battery but it never recorded again after. It's been 3 months, emailed support twice. No response from support. I uninstalled/reinstalled, app recording is still disabled. I've missed out on a lot of points now.

I have a photo of the Speed limit! I like the app; I'm driving better since I installed it and I'm earning points to spend at Amazon. However, it has the wrong speed limits in for Route 3. It should be 55, not 50. Very frustrating seeing "Speeding" and I'm not! Please fix that! Thank you.

Has been good for a while, but seems to be failing fast. In the last month, this is often days behind in the last recorded trip, and doesn't seem to have as many miles at a time recorded as before. Also, when I go to redeem, none of the rewards are shown. If I tap where one might normally be, it asks if I want to redeem - but I have no idea what it is, so I cancel.

Good idea, not good in rural areas. It must not have good speed limit data in rural areas. Got dinged for many places where it obviously doesnt know the speed limit. It will also kill your phone battery fast. Even plugged in my phone can't charge fast enough to keep up. Have to uninstall for battery alone.

I have used this app for about a week now Today I opened it to find that my point balances had dropped to zero. I didn't change anything, and I didn't receive any kind of notification. The points were just gone. Apparently this is nothing more than a tracking app, and a waste of my battery. I will be uninstalling.

Great app but my only complaint is that you get dinged for hard braking more so than you should. They need to ease up a bit on the setting. I'm updating my rate of this app. I dropped it to 1 star. I earned points for a Amazon gift card and the code is invalid. Starting to believe this app is a scam to watch us and penalize drivers who are "not perfect drivers"

Stay away from this app. It will invade your privacy on your phone. Once it gathers data it submits it to your insurance company and they can adjust your rates however they want. I denied to run this app at all times just curious on how it runs and it was still running in the background even though I closed it. I didn't agree to always allow the app out of curiosity and it still recorded. Stay away from this app.

It's good, but it really need to play a big part in local speed. They are wrong, and I'm always needing to send the updates of the correct speed limits.. Plus on highways everyone is doing 70+ as I'm doing 60+ just so I'm not a hazard to others on the rode.. I should not be penalized for that..

I'm not absolutely sure how this app works, but I hardly drive my car at all. I probably haven't put 1,000 miles on it in the past year. Until I understand it better, I think I'm going to delete the app, or at the very least, not activate it yet. From what I've read, it always assumes you're driving and you can't tell it otherwise. I don't want my driving record to be based on someone else's driving habits. I'd like very much for a developer to respond and confirm or deny this please.

Making it available to tract how you really drive is pretty useful. I got to work on and watch my braking. Just wish you can use being a good/great driver somehow to use the points to also take rewardable dollars off our months bill. That would be very useful and effective to encourge safe driving. For the sake of the driver, passangers and pedestrians. Thank you.

Great app. Sometimes having hiccups, like I can't change trip from driver to passenger. Sometimes penalize me for axeleration when I am getting out to highway, but how else you suppose to take exit and move in to a traffic. I am very conservative driver and usually drive by rules, so it makes me sad when I am loosing credits for that. Other than that pretty fare and very cool. I had my daughter on it and we compete who will get better score which force her to drive more responsibly. 👍

No one ever responds to "help". Phone had a low battery one time and now the app says recording is disabled because of low battery and I can't login activity. This is so stupid. Also any time you get a call and your screen lights up it counts as if you picked up the phone and used it even if you don't answer. That is stupid

Don't bother with this app. Got great scores for not speeding or hard braking/cornering but because I drive mostly on bumpy twisty roads I scored very poorly for FALSE readings of phone use/distraction because my phone charges while I drive. There was no phone use! Didn't even open Waze because of other reviews stating the app reads nav programs as distractions. I don't want bogus readings of my driving to eventually negatively affect my insurance premiums, so I dumped this crappy app.

Something of a battery hog but works ok for stated purpose. App requires phone to be in center console of car for proper use - otherwise too sensitive to turns. I'm not willing to change a twenty year habit of carrying the phone in a pants pocket just for this app so out it goes.

This app is great for earning rewards for driving I already do. The push notification reminder to turn on location services goes off several times a day and is severely annoying and unable to be turned off.

Chr. D. Jan 12, 2021

It's a good concept, but the speed limit data is questionable. There are way too many speed zones where there's no such speed posted on the road. If the App actually showed me the speed limit then I could follow it.

Jam. C. Jan 26, 2021

Will change rating if I get a response. Redeemed rewards and only received 1 out of 3 of them. Contacted support about this issue with no response. Also contacted support, as they request in the app, about many incorrect speed limits with still no corrections or response.

I'm already driving, so why not make extra money for it? In 7 months I've made $110 in Amazon gift cards. My location is on anyway, and it's money I didn't have before that I'm doing literally nothing for. I just wish I had known about this sooner! Can sometimes be buggy and think I'm driving when I'm not, but it usually sorts itself out and of not you can adjust everything.

A. G. u. Oct 24, 2019

Gave me a lot of hard braking (didn't do, I came to rolling stops) , hard acceleration (at a rate my fuel efficient car cannot even do), and hard cornering at 16mph (16mph was well below the posted 25mph corner speed on a 40mph road) All these are bs. Do not bother with this app. As a developer myself, they did a poor job on detection. This app also uses a ton of battery.

A. G. u. May 22, 2019

The gift cards are nice but the app cannot tell the difference between hard braking for safety and hard braking because you are tailgating. Lost points for distracted driving when i was parked in a parking lot. Lost points for taking a legal u-turn at 15mph.

The. S. Oct 22, 2020

love this app. i love earning rewards. but I'm constantly having to reinstall the app. My point keep freezing. It's very frustrating. Once i consistently get my points i will amend my review

Kev. G. Sep 24, 2021

When I upgraded my phone and then reinstalled the app I received an error message that my account did not exist. So I tried to recreate an account and I received another error message telling me my account already existed. There is no help desk contact so basically I can now no longer use this app.

A. G. u. Oct 22, 2019

I like the app it's good the only thing I don't like is that I'm constantly getting phone distractions. Either you're not allowed to use your Bluetooth and be hands-free or this app is not picking up on my Bluetooth

CJ. O. Dec 7, 2020

It definitely encourages one to drive more safely, staying within the ambit of traffic rules. Again, there's a token financial benefit for driving safe. It's great!

I am a contractor and there are time I need to travel out to different, UNFAMILIAR towns for work.. I need my GPS to get to those said towns. The little arrow is moving on my screen and also verbally telling me my turns via my navigation app. Can someone explain to me why my recent trips whenever I have gone out of town have given me a red star for phone distraction??? Playing on my phone is the last thing I am doing when I dont even know where I am going. Please fix this and my earned points.

Tod. W. Apr 26, 2022

Used my points earned for a $10 Amazon gift card and never received the email with the redemption. No way to open a ticket or contact support to find it.
