Why is this app trying to be like Tinder, it has a terrible reputation. Why pay a biweekly subscription fee for background checks? Are you doing a new background check every 2 weeks? We know you aren't. We are looking for roommates, we don't have money to throw around to make your horribly dishonest stickers go away. My city isn't even listed! Why are you organized by city anyway? An absolute chore to navigate. Messages you are writing get wiped out if you turn your phone 90 degrees. Disgusted.
Used to be really good, they tried improving it which is a good idea but they implemented it badly. App stutters, lags, and freezes sporadically.
They are now trying to force you into a $10 background check. Theres no way to decline onky once. It pops up TWICE when you try to message people. 2018 Review: I like all of the options to explain your lifestyle and what you're looking for. But why bother asking if the filter doesn't work. When searching it doesn't filter the move in date or budget precisely. Our preferences are not suggestions. Only show us what we want.
Last year I had an excellent experience on the app - I actually found a room and sublet for a while! But after this new update, the app is extremely buggy. I cant edit my uploaded photos, sometimes I cant sign in for hours, and some buttons on the app don't work. I havent used it since last April, but I've just updated as well as redownloaded, and my experience is totally different. Borderline unusable app, and useless customer service.
So incredibly frustrating. The app experience has just degraded over time since I initially downloaded a year or so ago. It's a shame because Roomi has been my go-to for finding roommates since I started using it. Great concept and great roommates, but the app just doesn't function. The only way I see that I have a message request is if I log in on a desktop or if I happen to see it in my email. I have mobile, email, and text notifications turned on. None of them work (except for email).
I don't normally review apps, but Roomi is actually quite terrible. Constantly crashes, freezes while in-app, has a clunky user experience, and the messaging is practically non-existent since it doesn't work. Definitely look elsewhere when searching for a room. Edit: my review says what is wrong. I can't message people, the app constantly freezes, and the UI barely works.
This app is a good idea and has many great features. But frustrating to use the best feature - the map - because the dollar amnt icon for each listing stays white after you look at them. And there is no way to know which listings you have already looked at. So every time you search the map you have to click on every single icon to find out which listings you haven't seen yet. BR filter doesn't work. I put 2 or 3 BR and the map includes 4, 5 and 6 BR apts. Price range slider is difficult to use
Great service but the app is a broken mess. New verification services don't always refresh correctly in the app, requiring a force stop and reload of the app to appear. The "MESSAGE" button on listings DOESN'T WORK, you have to click the person's profile and hope they only have one listing, otherwise the app makes it so you're inquiring about whatever listing they have listed first. Setting filters for budget, etc. is a pain - you have to use tiny sliders instead of typing. USE THE SITE INSTEAD.
Bugs, bugs everywhere. For starters, the messaging menu sometimes appears blank even if there are messages. It sometimes does not notify of new messages. Then, in the map mode, every time one enters and goes out the price range changes (seems to drop $100 every time). Sometimes it shows rents that do not meet the criteria set for the search. Authentication warns of incomplete profile even if you have confirmation by email. And the list goes on...
I don't know what update you guys did recently, but the app is terrible. Filter is not working and the map, well, horrible. Bad UX.
Um, you're screwed if your city isn't already listed in the app. I went to click, "vote for your city", filled it out (several times, trying city name and state, then adding country as well, then tried spelling everything out in full rather than abbreviating state and country) and nothing worked. Every time, I got an error message saying city or state name was missing. So in short, if your city isn't there, this app isn't gonna work for you.
I paid for a boosted listing and now I cannot log in via the app at all. No message notifications being pushed, and no chance of even getting to the sign in screen because it just crashes and only allows you to create a new account. The website for mobile and desktop are pretty glitchy as well. What exactly am I paying for? I had similar issues with the app back in January 2022. Roomi just steered me to their super glitchy web site. Please fix!
Bugs were NOT fixed. Whatever updates were done just made it worse. Not sure what's happening with this app. I was just using it a month ago and it was great. The algorithm is all messed up now. You can't select the neighborhood(s) anymore within the city you live in, which makes this app fairly useless now. This app was SOO good a month ago. I've had great luck with Roomi in the past. PLEASE fix this issue ASAP.
Roomi is a fine service. The app is very bad. Tons of glitches, errors, and crashes. UPDATE All issues remain after updating. I spoke to a very nice person from the support team and was advised by Roomi to use the website. I second that opinion as the relying on the app may cause you to miss important messages. Essentially worse than no app at all.
Can't sign in at all and before i couldn't edit my listing without crashing. One of the worst apps I've ever used i have to use the website to use roomi at all.
I like it, but has many bugs. Feels like a prehistoric app back then in 2013...the messages doesn't load when are meant to load, you have to return to the previous page and then open again messages, later within the chat I can't click on the person's picture to see their full profile...the UX it's just poor. I am a verified user because the community is good. I expect future improvements, as it is right now it feel like a beta version 😉. Direct messages is not working I can't contact host!
Unable to open any mover's profile. I set up a listing and am getting notifications that people want to chat about the room, but clicking on them gives me an error message. If I click on anyone in the browse screen, it similarly glitches and cannot open their profile. No point if I can't communicate with potential roommates!
App no longer functions, keeps telling me that my email isnt registered, or my account details aren't correct, even though I keep successfully using the desktop version. Yet both are inadequate in different ways by not having good filtering and an ability to sort messages or even delete them. I keep having an issue on both platforms that my messages aren't coming through as notifications. Please for the love of god fix it
I had to jump through all the hoops to sign up only to realize they don't have my metro area. Which is insane, because over 70% of the metros they do have are smaller. The "contact" button didn't do anything so I couldn't let them know. Even LA didn't seem to have too many listings so I doubt I missed out on very much. They do seem to take verifying people are real very seriously so that's good.
The app functions, but barely. Freezes a lot, unresponsive, and no way to delete messages. Notifications don't work *at all*, so I have to check the app constantly. It was incredibly difficult to sign up using the Global ID process; I stuck it out because I was desperate, but the app is kind of not even worth it.
They do not have many people or rooms in DFW area. In spite of that I check some of them out and I felt I should try to contact one of them. Obviously they have to make to their money somehow so they charge 7.99 so you can go further and for the background check included. The problem is when they ask for your id to verify :The system freezes. The charge goes in 1 sec but the step after it freezes. I dis not contact the only one person I felt had a good room but I paid 7.99 for nothing. Do not waste your time and money here.
The app doesn't work right now. It's been over a week and im not the only one who cant use it effectively. How do you miss not being able send messages during testing. Edit: They responded that tge glitch was fixed but the last listed update is 6 days before this posting. It did not fix the issue.
Bug, bug, and more bugs. I wonder if the development team suffered layoffs cause of Covid or if they decided to abandon this project. Either way, none of the filters work and when they do work one refresh of the maps search area or backspace after checking a listing reverts the filters. Photos are also bugged where you can't edit, upload, delete. Also, Checkr as a background check solution is meh. Ive had bad experiences with them in the past.
Doesn't really function, can't upload photos, hangs a lot, only half of the fields are editable, such as minimum budget, but maximum budget locked at $100,000 lol. Requires paying a fee for a background check that just gives them all youe life's info, and a separate fee to check your own uploaded ID card lol. They want you to pay your rent on the app too. Shady overall, basement dev.
worked really well when I first started using this app, but the latest update wont let me see any message requests or look at any profiles and this has been going on for a month. even with the latest update, Ive lost all my message requests and editing my listing retirns an error on upload. luckily i was on the free tier bit i can imagine what it'd be like to pay $7+ for boosting during thos period. it's a real shame because it has so much potential
It was great until it logged me out and now I can't get back in unless I want to, recreate the lisiting. So I have no access to any incoming messages.
This is the worst app i used. I was getting so many glitches on the web and mobile app that i thought maybe upgrading my plan would make it better. I paid $29.99 for Roomi Gold and realized it was a bait and switch. A rep called "Karen" (coincidence) said the app is no longer supported on Android. So why is it available on the Google Play??? After i paid the $29.99 i was not able to access my account on the web or the app. I want a refund but they refuse. 0 support and customer service.
