Root Car Insurance: Good drivers save money

So it was great i started saving tons of money, but out of nowhere and without driving habits changing..... My insurance has more than doubled, its officially the most expensive insurance on the market. Ive been a customer here for 4 years... It went from $24 a month(owned the car) , to $80 when adding my second car which is a finance, now and at everyvrenewal they keep raising $20. Offically im at $158. I have zero tickets, perfect driving credit, please be careful of this honey trap.

I'm annoyed that I have to give them ANY STARS!!!! My car was in the shop for 3 months because of a national recall and I still had to pay insurance for a car I wasn't using. In fact my insurance went up because the person I was riding with isn't the best driver but the you can't let the app know its not you that's driving. Negative ZERO stars. I will NEVER recommend to anybody

Root is a bait and switch car insurance company. Starts you off with a decent insurance rate and then skyrockets the rate even when you have perfect driving etiquette which happens to be the pitch they have for people who are good drivers to choose them for a lower insurance rate. False advertising. My insurance rose by over $100 monthly and when I called the rep couldn't fix their mouth to give me a solid reason. From $200 to $302 is hard to phantom when you are a safe driver w/ clean history

If you want affordable car insurance this is not it. It's pretty easy to set up though, traditional insurance is better in my opinion I don't think I'll be a customer for awhile. The tracking device is not as reliable because it turns on by me just walking at work because I do walk at lot. Other than that nothing special.

Absolutely terrible company. With 9/10 driving score, no accidents, no tickets, etc, my rate went up over double the initial price. Staff would not clarify why the rate was adjusted; only vague answers like "crime in your area". You'd think people would be throwing molotov cocktails like Watch Tower magazines. I can't rank this app or company any lower or I would. Save yourself the headache & frustration. Find a better provider. (I was with Root for over 3 years total) Update: Geico is cheaper!

My experience is about the same as everyone else's. The insurance was really cheap for a few months and then went up. They claim it's based on my driving but that cannot be true. I went from going back and forth to work everyday, in traffic, speeding, and running red lights, to working from home and never driving it all. I don't play games. I'm out!

So far seems great. I needed insurance quick and got Progressive just so I'd be covered but then the next payperiod Progressive increased my bill from 65$ to 178$ which I definitely couldn't pay, so I decided to try Root. The Test Drive was pretty quick (about a week) but I also drive alot so that mightve cut down the time. But yeah im back insured and now I'm paying 74$ a month instead off 178$. Thanks to Root I'm able to pay for insurance. I'll upgrade my Coverage later 100%

Update 05/22 2yrs later for the 1st time in my life I can afford FULL COVERAGE auto insurance!! I've used roadside assistance 3x's and all were great experiences. Root hasn't let me down yet!! Og review from 2020 👇 Root is saving me so much money my policy went from 160 a month to 80 a month and if I get the 6 months im saving almost 400 dollars!! Get this app!!

When i first signed up my rate was only $71, but every 6 months they raised it until my premium was up to $111. . . i got a new vehicle during my last 6 month interval and it was raised to $125, however when my new 6 months came up they bumped it up to $135. I think i am going with another company after this 6 months is up!! I was very pleased in the beginning, but they keep getting more and more expensive and i drive the same i always have.

Amazing app. It's accurate about 90% of the time from my experience. I was using progressive insurance and paying twice as much for far less coverage. Root is a MUCH better choice for young drivers like myself.

A decent enough company. Price is high. Be sure you cancel in the app if you switch to another company. Do not believe the other company when it says that they will notify Root that your policy is being canceled. I believed the other company. Then had to cancel manually several days later when I realized I was going to be charged for 6 months. I was charged for the overlap. So for several days I was being represented by two companies and paying both of them. Lots of communication there.

The app is fine the company not so much. They do the typical bait and switch. They get you in with good rates then pull the sheet out from under you. They double your rates and refuse to give a reason why. I wish insurance companies would just be honest about what they base your rates on, because it's not your driving (it's more your credit score than anything). They have subpar customer service too. Don't bother you won't save money here.

It was good while it lasted. Starting out I was saving ~$55 after a few years with them and their new model I'm not saving anything at all. What I really don't like about them is despite the fact that I rarely drive, there's no way to notify them off whether or not I'm the one driving or if it's my car that's in use. I have switched to Progressive and am saving more with additional benefits. I can no longer recommend this company. I definitely suggest looking elsewhere.

Don't fall for the advertising. They'll suck you in with low rates and then drop you for "unsafe driving habits" for using apps that are MEANT TO BE USED WHILE DRIVING - I'm talking Google Maps, Spotify Car Mode, etc. I just moved six months ago and need navigation to get anywhere in my new city; because my vehicle is older I have no choice but to use my phone. It doesn't matter that I've never caused an accident in my life - still not good enough for Root. Take your $$ elsewhere.

I have used Root for a few months now. I have called costumer service they were extremely rude when I had questions about my policy. I will be switching over to Progressive as they are cheaper and their customer service is much more professional. I am very disappointed.

Started out paying $117 then that bumped to $181 despite no tickets or accidents.. I would only use them for the year before I had to switch to Progressive for better rates.

Paid them $1009.00 for 6 months of insurance in February and they still charge me $72 monthly. The $1009.00 was so that I didn't have to pay them for 6 months. I will not be referring this insurance and I will be cancelling soon. You all can keep the $1009.00 this was a big mistake, ROOT is not a good insurance.

I've been with Root for several years now but it's time for me to say goodbye. They got me with a very low rate starting out and every single renewal, despite no tickets or claims, my rate has gone up. It has gone up so much that Nationwide is a cheaper option. One that I will be switching to on March 1st. I'd work on customer retention and rewarding safe driving from loyal customers, because I don't feel very valued, which is why I'm leaving. Just a tip.

My experience was excitement initially. The price was a deal that matched my actual record of not much driving and absolutely no tickets. Now if someone else is driving a completely different car there was no option for me to alter that I was not the 1 driving and my insurance was adjusted to meet that experience. I originally had full coverage, rental car assistance and that was cut down to minimal liability. Presently price is same as the competition. No benefit to staying

First two years were good. It was cheap at $35 per month. After two years, it increased (a lot) every renewal for no reason. Now it will go to $150, time to say goodbye. My driving score has always been 10 since using Root. I don't have any claims.

Super easy to find all your information that you need, and easy access. But when you are driving it does track your driving which is no problem to me. But when someone else is driving and I'm on my phone because I'm not the one driving it's somewhere affects my driving score and I wish it didn't. No ads in app

Having trouble canceling policy that i no longer need. You cant tell represenatives over the phone that you want to cancel yout policy. They claim they can't do it. You have to do it yourself through a app where i cannot find my policy information to tell them to cancel it.

Same story as many recent reviews on here... started out saving and then over the last couple of years my rate skyrocketed. I even have a better credit score, no accidents or tickets, and was barely driving a freaking Prius C from 2012! There is no way to tell them you're not driving if you're riding with a friend, they do not reward good driving like they say, almost no discount system, and their customer retention is awful... their answer is lower your coverage only. Bye. Fix your model.

My worst mistake. They are charging me $320 to use Root again with a new car PLUS $360 for the coverage. If I had known about the reinstatement charge I would never have purchased Root again. Also, their prices are high compared to other companies.

Unlike most; I'm reviewing the app, not the cost of the insurance. I understand inflation. App works, but could be a little more intuitive. But with minimal effort, you can get done what needs to be done

My insurance rate went from $73 to about $90 with no apparent reason as to why. There were no accidents and in that time I turned over the age that considers you an at risk driver so my rate should have dropped. I didn't move or do anything that typically cause the factors that would increase your rates. Very disappointed in this company and will be switching to a different, more reliable insurance provider

Great insurance for safe drivers! By far the most affordable full coverage I've ever had. I also appreciate more time to pay if I'm behind a few days too. Awesome service! 👌

They dont give you a quote but they want you to install their app on your phone that tracks your location 24/7???? If I ride in other peoples cars my "driving score" goes down. Save yourself a month of waiting for an inaccurate quote and just get car insurance through another provider.

I started $250/month for 2 cars 3 people Which is a good deal of course one car being full coverage and the other minimum liability The next month $260 not bad yeah? Six months later my last payment was $477 with no notice or anything Called them asked why he said there is no reason Basically he said the initial rate was to get you signed and then it would change Go to any other auto insurance company just not this one
