Every other time I try to open this app, it does not work. Or it asks for my TV login, which I am happy to provide, and it still does not work. When it does work, it is glitchy and constantly stopping to buffer the video. I have plenty of streaming apps that I use on a daily basis with no problems, so I know it is not my phone service or device causing this issue. Just ridiculous, that's all I can say.
Useless app if you have Xfinity, Comcast. Even if you have Roots as part of your TV package you can't log in with it. Some fight between these two billion dollar companies over a couple of bucks means no joy for you.
App works ok but screen will freeze every 40 seconds for about 5 seconds. Glad I could at least watch the channel but the freezing issue is very annoying. Chromecast feature is a must for all these types of apps but this one does not support it. Not sure if it's some licensing issue but disappointed it's not available.
Even if you have Root Sports as part of your cable package this App may not work. I have Comcast/Xfinity and that is not listed among the limited number of cable or direct TV providers that would give me access to the Root Sports program. Pretty disappointing.
Stream freezes for about 5-7 seconds every 3rd(ish) at bat during a Mariners game. Sound still plays, but the video freezes.....missing some key plays. And no, it's not my signal. This doesn't happen on YouTube, Netflix, FB, Twitter, etc. Anyway you can fix this?
Update the App! Clearly it's not working for users. If you're going to have an app, you need to be responsible and keep it functional! After selecting an event, the spinning circle of death shows up and nothing ever plays.
I'm unable to use the app 98% of the time. It makes me sign in to my T.V. provider every time and when I login it just sits on a blank white screen with no access to anything. I've tried restarting my phone and uninstalling and reinstalling the app and it's the same thing every time.
It's pretty simple. It's a useless app even with a comcast subscription! It's all about the money which is why you haven't offered streaming on all platforms. You're not going to last much longer Root sports when you can't keep up with cord cutters.
Trying to steam games KINDA works. It stays on but the video consistently freezes for 4 seconds or so about every minute while the audio continues. I've tried this on 3 different phones. Didn't run into this issue last season.
What exactly is the point of Root Sport, other than to try and get you to subscribe to a traditional, outdated cable subscription? To top it off, the app crashes about half the time when attempting to log in.
Absolutely no streaming services listed as viewing options. Way to stay with the times! Cable subscription numbers continue to plummet and more folks are just turning to the internet to watch their teams.
Tried this app a couple years ago. Came back to see if improvements were made. Nope. No Dish, no Spectrum along with a lot of other big TV providers. I bet they want me to contact my TV provider to tell them to make a deal with Root, because that's my job as a customer. I just want to watch a dang Mariners game. And I was hoping to watch Kraken games as well. I guess not.
unusable. the provider authentication mechanism needs to be changed, i cant authorize on my phone but works just fine on the computer, amongst other things, this app feels like its wrapped in a webview, buggy and laggy. 1 star.
Out of town and trying to watch the Timbers match. Logged in using my DirecTV credentials only to be told I need to be in my billing zip code. What the heck? I've had several apps to stream sports and this is the only one you have to be "home" to use. Ridiculous.
The app will not allow me into my satellite service and stream the service even though I pay for the service through my provider.
3/10/19: PONY UP THE $ ROOT! Dish, Comcast, Spectrum...the major 3 besides DirecTV and YOU won't help people who would like to watch their teams on the go, in their local market? DON'T INSTALL THIS APP! UPDATE 5/9/21: It's 2 years later, and you STILL haven't updated the list of providers. Quit trying to bilk them out of cash and provide the cable/satellite companies with this app free of charge. This is YOUR PROBLEM, now fix it!
nothing but blank screen after providing direct tv credentials I'd love to give a better review but that's as far as I get.. Suggestion that I contact support. So my motivation to spend time and energy fixing this, post the game I wanted to watch, is rather low. I'm also dubious as to how support would be able to help given that I know my DTV credentials were correct (password managers are your friend) and I tried entering them multiple times, including full restart of the app. Clearly the problem exists between root and DTV, and some API call is failing for some reason. No amount of handholding for my entering of my username and password for directv is going to change that. What I REALLY want is to just stream this via directtv, and not have to load YET ANOTHER SERVICE SPECIFIC APP in order to watch something I'm already paying directv for but can't watch in directv app because of squabbles over IP rights. Clearly the user experience here takes a back seat to the concerns of the dammed IP lawyers.
it useless until it accepts Comcast. update to developers. i contacted Comcast to tell them to allow steaming an their response was to diwnload your app. but I cant stream on your app as comcast is not listed. can you contact them and explain it
Doesn't work anymore. Used to work last year when I installed it but quit over the winter during college basketball season. I can login to DirecTV but all I get is a spinning red circle.
If I could I'd give 0 stars. They do not have streaming partnership with the majority of cable providers (AT&T made sure of that) and also blackout streaming if you live in the PNW. Streaming blackouts for people living in the northwest market is atrocious for a company claiming to be "rooted" in the northwest. Root sports is awful. Blacking out fans for not having cable subscriptions and not providing other options is embarrassing. I would hate myself if I worked for them.
No support for Comcast... Edit in response to developer: thanks for your response, but it is not my job to put in work to make your app better. Edit 2: a year later, still so support for Comcast customers. Still trash.
Fubo is not a provider option for some reason, so this app is useless to me. Uninstalling.
If the developers add the cable providers users actually have, the app would be functional. This fix must be added as soon as possible. The app literally has people begging for comcast support, me alike. Please do not respond to this, Ooyala, with asking me, the consumer, to contact comcast myself and beg that they legitimize YOUR app. please respond to this with legitimate reasoning on why Xfinity and other big providers are unable to give access to your app please.
I have Comcast and DirectvNOW - neither work through this app. Their list of supported cable providers only had one name I even recognized. ROOT is awful for the Mariners - I guarantee there would be more fans watching M's games (and then more interest in actually going to the games) if it wasn't for ROOT's deathgrip on our team.
What a joke. No support for xfinity or really any large name provider. Site and app look like they were thrown together on a potatoe in '99. No idea what the thinking is behind limiting game viewing so much between root sports and mlb, they are actively trying to stop fans from watching their games and with that their ads as well.
no longer works. worked great first year now it just does not work ever. barley can get root streaming on laptop but that works sometimes. this app has not worked this year.
Video pauses for a few seconds at least every minute or two. No cast to tv option. The app needs a lot of work.
This app is a joke. I live about 10 min away from the Moda Center but can't ever watch a Blazers game unless it is on national TV. I pay for different cable and streaming services but roots won't allow them to let me watch it so I download this app and it has tons of providers that I have never heard of.. stupid small business trying to compete with other monopolies and ruining the die hard fans chances of watching their home town team play night in and out. SMH.
Wont even let me long in to my provider on one device and frequently errors on another. Many bugs need to be fixed.
Garbage. I have DirecTV and live in the Seattle area. Get a meaningless error every time I try to play a local game, which the Root Sports website said is the only thing it streams - local games, assuming you are streaming from the local area. Save your time. Plus have you ever seen an app rated this low in your life? The Product Owner must be so proud.
