[root] Triangle Away

Many Samsung devices store a flash counter that keeps track of how many times you have flashed *custom
* firmwares to your device. On some devices, a yellow triangle or other sort of visual warning is also displayed during boot if you are running a *custom
* firmware. TriangleAway was built to disable the triangle (if a visual warning is present) and reset the custom ROM flash counter to 0. This app requires root !
You can find out the current status of your flash counter and firmware state (custom or official) by booting into "download mode" on most devices. The usual way of getting into "download mode" is by first turning off your device, then turning it on by pressing and holding VolDown+(Home)+Power. Alternatively, the "adb reboot download" command also often works.

When you run TriangleAway, if your device and firmware are supported, it will show you the detected state of the binary (custom or official) and flash counter value, and the option to "Reset flash counter". Please confirm that the information shown is correct before resetting the values.

On a number of devices, TriangleAway can work, but your firmware may not be supported directly. In that case, the app will tell you it needs to reboot into a special boot mode, which will be happen if you select "Reset flash counter". The device will reboot into a special mode which will allow you to review the current status and reset the binary and flash counter values (or abort and do nothing). On some devices this will actually trigger the counter to 1 if its 0
- so if you're "just checking", do that in download mode!

!!! THIS IS A DANGEROUS OPERATION AND COULD POTENTIALLY BRICK YOUR DEVICE. PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK. A USB JIG IS PREFERRED IF YOU HAVE A WORKING ONE !!!( and by brick I mean brick
- only a board replacement or a JTAG unit will be able to save you, don't mess with boot(loader) stuff unless you *really
* mean it! )

Note#1: using Triangle Away may unmount your SD card. Reboot or manually remount it from Android settings.

Note#2: on new devices status can only be reset on stock firmwares!

* Various models are supported depending on firmware, but only the exact models listed are supported regardless of firmware version.

Whether or not Triangle Away works may depend on your kernel, try flashing a different one if it doesn't work.

Please also note that some devices set the counter to 1 at every boot if you are running a custom kernel or recovery. On these devices, Triangle Away may always display 1
- make sure to check the counter in actual download mode.

Note that this download is also available from that thread completely for free. You can go there and download it for free, or buy me a beer and download it from Play. It is the same program.

I'm not sure about future updates

I wasted my money in this

I don't know about the counter because o haven't gone to stock. The app thinks it has it reset but it also thinks it had my device reading official. It's too be expect as my device is not supported yet. The sooner you get to the new galaxy devices the better Mr Chainfire. Since the lollipop update is like the old days. We all have to root through recovery again.

Needs to work for N910T. Loved it when I was using m919t. Hope it gets fixed. I also try to email the keys but it won't input the address to email but inputs my own email address to send to. I will be upgrading to Note 6 for t-mobile once its released. Hope it gets updated for note 6. Will gladly send note 4 keys and note 6 keys to get it working again. Developer is great with other apps but I think he/she is letting this specific app slide.

This worked for me on my Samsung Galaxy Exhibit SGH-T599N MetroPCS about 2 weeks ago, then suddenly it stops working. Sure it resets count to 0, but when I go to download mode it says 1 and both status at custom. Status in settings is still custom. Please fix for my phone and I'll rate 5 stars.

Doesn't work anymore, worked fine on my Moto G4S plus previously, wanted to re apply it after a clean install of the exact same system it was working on and now suddenly it can't find the magic header even though I have full root. Fails to creat dump file.

Tried to reset counter on SM-T805W LTE but device status says "scanning" and never changes. Using Triangle Away v.3.26. Originally used CF autoroot and wanted to restore to original state as tablet goes into shutdown mode intermittently. Too bad!

Restored a few of my old Galaxy Tab 2 tablets to complete stock setups to sell them. Triangle Away cleaned up when I was done. Now, of course, an old Tab 2 wouldn't be under warranty anyway, but I know it's possible it might bother the next owner that there was a count. No harm was ever done to the tablets. There's no reason for anyone in the future to be alarmed by Samsung's counter showing evidence of past root access. It's just as good as before root existed. Thanks Chainfire!

It will brick your phone! It will give you a soft brick triangle and a message that will cost you money. If Knox is installed on your phone, even if disabled by safe root and super su. Works great for t mobile but never ever verizon. I love chain fire apps however and the fact of the matter is its not the app. Verizon is

I have 2 sammy devices. Both are rooted and at&t. You know what that means. Both I have managed to avoid ota. One is a cheapo smt217a tablet. It just got upgraded to kk. I didnt take it. But I had to accept a sammy upgrade. Thats when the custom screen came. All I did was run this app and it went away. I have also used it on my note 2. It worked on both,. Was worth every penny.

This app has helped me keep warranty on all of my galaxy series phones over the years. Starting with my galaxy s2, then s3, and now s4. If you are on t-mobile s4 it may not work above 4.3. This is also unable to reset knox counter. If on tmobile s4 keep baseband 4.2 and flash 4.2 android for this to reset the flash count properly though. Has trouble while using 4.3 and 4.4 with stock kernels.

This program writes in itself that system official, binary official and everything should be OK. BUT my Note2 itself shows status it is "changed" and does not allow me to update. My system itself is official(i have never changed it) and I replaced only bootloader and installed SuperSU.

i still get the "Device Modified" error when attempting to update firmware on my device. as this was really the only reason why i purchased the app, i cannot really give it a higher rating. all i can say is that while it didn't work for me, it MIGHT work on your device. tested on: Samsung Galaxy SIII (I9305T) with Android v4.1.1 (I9305XXALI5).

Such an awesome concept, although I recived zero results, I could be using it wrong but it seemed dummy proof to me. Two stars for user friendly.

I've tried a few different flashes just to investigate variety. This app helps me hide how many times I have tried. I haven't had to take my phone into an actual dealer, but it makes me feel confident that I could. CHAINFIRE, I salute you, my Thanks.

Got a message saying it saved a file i should attach in triangle away thread. Cant find thread. If this is thread cannot attach anything. Also no refund option popped up but who knows might get refund later since i sent email to google play

If your brave enough to root your Samsung phone and put custom ROMs on it, then you'll be fine with this App. I put CWM6 and CM11 on my Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-I9100 and ended up with the stupid yellow triangle. I installed SuperSU and Triangle Away, and I got rid of the yellow triangle with very little fuss!

Ric. C. Mar 21, 2014

This did clear my triangle, didn't check the counter but I presume its 0 . However, it did screw my loader running CM11 which put me onto a boot screen halt. Was fine with a reflash via cwm , still no triangle :)

Jus. H. Sep 25, 2014

Had a rooted Sprint Galaxy S3 stuck on 4.1.2 with CMW Bootloader. Triangle Away worked fine, but I couldn't run the OTA update because of the custom bootloader. Found a different solution.

Paid for the full app on play. Didn't work on my I9505 on 5.0.1 nor on my new S6 edge. Kind of useless now

My device is not supported, but as I dont use pay-pal, thought I'd throw my £2 in to support dev as I've used his stuff on many occasions. Cracking Coding Celebrity.

Does not work on samsung galaxy note 10 2014 edition 3g (sm-p601)

Nat. S. Jan 29, 2017

Well there goes $2.50. I tried running it on 3 different roms. The last one was a stock rooted OD2 rom on rooted Sprint Samsung Galaxy S4.

Was very sceptical of soft bricking my device but followed all instructions on my i9100 and worked a charm. Highly recommended

Mar. Sep 21, 2014

Seemed to work at first but couldn't get phone out of "modified" status. Tried a few suggestions found in forums but got worried I'd brick my phone. Guess I'm stuck with 4.1.1.

Mil. F. Mar 12, 2015

Tried this to reset flash counter but download screen shows that its not reset. Using stock lollipop upgrade. Please help.

And. G. Dec 18, 2014

This is the best app for reseting the flash counter. But with the GS4 4.4.4 it is not as great as the system remains custom saying flashed 30 with no change.

wil. u. Nov 19, 2014

Resetting counter flash is the easiest way for fixing screen mirroring issue on my rooted stock kitkat note 2. Superb!
