Needs TLC I give 4 in the hopes some minor bugs be addressed. Game looks great and works. I get that it's got a small player base (most people have never heard of it) and saw a reply about different rules and not wanting to split the player base. - just add it for solo then with an explanation perhaps? Curious to see the rule variations Bug I experience is with the ads, looks slightly zoomed in and I can't actually close it lol. Forces me to restart. Samsung galaxy S20 Thanks for the game!
*EDIT* I never noticed the rule change before. This is definitely a 6 star app! This is great! Love this game! I bought a physical copy but it is great to be able to play on my phone. If there was a way to play with some of the other rule proposals that would make it a six star in my opinion:D
Ur is good, but the latest update wiped out my stars (indicative of campaign wins against random players) leaving me with only EXP points and a Level score towards a campaign I can't play yet... Also the dice throw needs improvement, better logic for randomness or something.
Very cool -- one request: in tavern, it would be awesome if my buddy and I could play without having to both be online at the same time. Like if I could play my turn then hop off and when he gets a chance he hops on and plays his turn, and so on.
Fun and entertaining game, played 1 by myself, and then one with my roommate. Had at least 4 instances where my name is highlighted, indicating my turn, I roll, and then the only peices that can move are hers. Hard to play when my turns are all going to my opponent.
Good representation of the game and good communication with author who continues improvements and fixes.
Sadly, ruined by the update. There was no way to retrieve my history and profile from the prior version (which should have been automatic), and the alternate rules were eliminated. One thing that continues from the older version is the insane idea that a "new" game board or pieces are relevant in any way. Probably the least beneficial update I've ever experienced with an app. I'll play it every once in a while to see if the developer comes to his senses, but otherwise it'll have to go.
The app is designed well and the game is interesting, and frustrating, as a lead can fall apart with a few good rolls of the dice. I'm subtracting a star because the advertisement after each game begins to be quite annoying. It's worth noting that if you play the game enough, there is a feature to remove the ads but it will take a long time to unlock it. Unless you spend cash to unlock it.
I really love this game. The app looks visually appealing, and there is gentle background music which is not at all overbearing or annoying. The game play is smooth and easy whether playing against another person or the computer. The game itself is quite fun and captivating. You can be winning one throw, losing the next and winning again on the third, it's not over until the last stone is off the board. I highly recommend this game.
It's an attractive game and does well to teach the rules. I've marked it down for the somewhat convoluted in app purchases. I just want to remove the adds but that costs 50 'coins'. I can only buy coins in multiples of 5, 30, 75, 225 and 725. I'm not interested in the rest of the coin game but I understand the publisher needs to make money but I just want to remove the adds with a simple single payment! Edit: Ended up just biting the bullet and buying the 75 coins. It's a solid app.
I'm so glad to have the opportunity to play this ancient game, and this version is fantastic. Because the game blends skill and chance, you never know who will win until the end. The optional challenges truly are challenging and provide a different kind of game experience. Crates can contain rare versions of the board, pawns, dice, and your avatar, which allows for customization. I highly recommend this app.
It is a good game so far. I have tried another Ur game from the Play Store and It had different rules where your pawn must return to the left side of the board and then leave, instead of going forward all the way. But these rules are fine too. There can be few visual improvements to the UI. It is too crowded with buttons and texts.
I love the games of Ur & Senet, for quite some time now. Like Backgammon it combines skill, strategy, luck of the draw to play, very much like life skills. FOR me just pure delight. I suggest it to others younger than me, I'm 67, to build their logic & problem solving skills. TO my age bracket, I feel it's almost life essential to retaining what we want to keep. The body may fail, but the brain doesn't have TOO. But aside from all that it's just plain fun. ENJOY !!!
At first I loved this but as I play more and more it is getting very frustrating. In the last time games the AI has been getting an inoridinate number of 4. Theoretically the 4 and 0 should come up the same but lately the AI doubles the 4 I role (last 3 for 1 and time before 4 for 2 - and that was 2 in the first three rolls and the other was a 3). It is very frustrating. I realize you need to cheat to make it competitive, but como on we need a fighting chance.
I'm convinced that at least within AI matches, the tetrahedron rolls are not perfectly random. I am able to predict rolls way too often. The AI too often conveniently rolls enough to knock my pieces off or get to the flowers. It's also exceptionally rare for me to go first in a game. I like the game a lot, but sometimes it feels rigged. I should not be able to predict what the AI rolls so much as I do.
I cannot fault this app. A beautiful aesthetic, simple to navigate, it allows you to select between the 2 most prominent rule sets with a few additional challenges (which I'm not a fan of but I'm sure there are people who will like them. Thank you for bringing this game into the digital world. Yes, the ads are annoying but you don't need to finish watching them and it does help the developer to keep it going.
Wonderful theme and atmosphere in this app. The game itself is fun and easy to learn but gets repetitive after too much playtime, not as deep as some other board games, but still feels fresh by the next day. There are some bugs regarding the unlockable content - twice after completing a game it's told me that I unlocked the Aphrodisias board, which I didn't actually unlock. It also appears you cannot buy other dice sets at all; I wasted 1500 coins trying. It's only cosmetics, but still...
Superb, with two setup options, challenging
I enjoy playing old style bored game. This one is orginal versions of "Sorry"
I like the game, it is really awesome. What I really miss is that the dices don't change color/position (or anything) that could help visually distinguish who is on the turn. Also I miss that I cannot see what has been thrown by my opponent until the move is made.
Ur is a great game, as are Senet and XII Scripta, which I'll also review. It's probably the most well known of all ancient board games rules-wise. The difficulty choice is good. The layout and graphics are very well done. I definitely think that this is the best version of Ur on the app market. It's a racing game, of course, and there's definitely tactics involved, but luck matters a lot too, especially near the end. Highly recommended!
UPDATE: I emailed Sullivan and he fixed it right away for me. Very nice dude and really cares about his work and to make it right. Awesome! I absolutely loved this app but when I uninstalled it and reinstalled it (wanted a new user name and start from scratch) the title screen was blank with just the FAQ and Private Policy showing. I uninstalled and reinstalled dozens of times and the same thing happened when I downloaded Senet. Only XII Scripta worked. Such a bummer because it was great!
This game is easy to learn but hard to master, and rhis app is great to het there. The graphics are beautiful, ganeplay is fluid, has several objectives to work towards which give you a sense of accomplishment and keeps the game fresh. Various difficulty leves so you can get better on your own, pvp online, and my personal favourite, local pvp so you can play with a friend on a single device. It does have adds but they are non intrusive as they only show at the end of every match and the dev even rewards you for watching them. This is a great example of how a free game should be done.
A fun, relaxing time. I appreciate being to customise the size / position of the board and game interface.
Although I've got Tom Scott to thank to for introducing me to this game, I cannot thank the developers enough for successfully digitising it. In spite of its crisp graphics, and smooth gameplay, the app truly shines due to its relatively error free online match-up system. Since the rules of the original game are pretty straightforward, I particularly enjoy playing the game with altered rules. Overall, good job!
Pretty good! Sometimes the difficulties are a bit too extreme. Like under the normal difficulty, the AI got like 4 perfect rolls in a row, and I kept getting zeros so I couldn't do a turn.
The best app on the Google Play Store for Ur! And they are still updating it in 2022. Splendid!
AI has an unreasonable advantage in dice rolls. In my last three games the AI rolled dozens of 3's and 4's while I could only get 1 and 0. In tight situations the computer gets EXACTLY what it wants. Whenever I knock a piece off the computer (almost) always gets a 3 to rebound whereas I usually get a 1. Very disappointing because I was very excited to see Ur in an app. Developer seems very involved with reviews so I'm hopeful I will get an explanation for this.
