Only works on "royal wifi". Good for checking the cruise compass. Useful in booking things on your schedule. The additional charge to call and message is useless. Problem is that the app needs to be running and connected for the feature to work. Meaning, if the app goes to sleep or you jump between wifi hotspots, the app will not work. The only time it worked was when I was testing next to the other party. Also works to call rooms and other hardlined phones. Don't waste your money for this.

Exceptionally terrible. This app should be decommissioned, it gives users a false hope that it will be useful. Deleting the app completely would be a better user experience. The WiFi on board is also terrible. I appreciate their effort of trying to use satellites but again, not having Internet at all would be less frustrating than the current situation.

This app is terribly unreliable and uses more resources (battery). It crashes every 2 minutes on my note 8 whilst on board Ovation of the Seas as I type this. Won't even run on my wifes slightly older phone. Could be very good but needs serious debugging as the crashing is at a point I want to uninstall it and get information other ways. The opposite of convenient and reliable as apps are meant to be.

Ovation. All it was useful for was a mobile daily planner and some bookings... constant crashing and disconnection. Messaging delays and 'intercom phone' didn't work. I wouldn't pay again for it unless substantially improved... however they did refund the upgrade. Great idea, needs bugs fixed and then would be excellent. The internet seemed ok.

Good app, when you can get it to connect properly to the ships wifi. The app tells you to connect to the royal wifi to use it. However, you cant connect to the royal wifi unless you purchase the Voom internet package. After continuing to mess around I finally got it to connect to the wifi without purchasing the package, but the connection is unreliable. Sometimes it will connect, sometimes not. Also it is locked into using a ship wifi; you cannot use it with your existing mobile data plan.

Frequently crashes, whether you're actively in it or not. iPhone folks had same problem. Messages can take anywhere from 2 seconds to several hours to arrive. My party started adding timestamps to the messages. iPhone folks had same problem. Phone app never worked. Zero times was I able to connect to anybody in the party. The call would start and I'd get general error. Had Zoom wifi (always worked fine). Text and calls via google voice worked fine. Anthem Feb 2019

This is the first one-star review I have ever left, but it has to be done. I paid 7.95 on board Ovation of the Seas July 2019 to use this app. I was traveling with 40 other friends and family. We needed a way to communicate. Frequent crashes. No alerts. Constant disconnects. Messages only come in if you can get connected and get the app open. Prompts to connect to a wireless network that doesn't exist on the ship. Royal should abandon this app and buy Carnival's app. it is as bad as the reviews

The app crashes or freezes on my moto Z3 constantly. You can view the cruise compass so you don't need to bring it with you. You can book dinner, show, and activity reservations. You can view your calendar of all your bookings. Unfortunately, you cannot view your dinner reservations ANYWHERE and you have to ask someone to print off a paper copy for you. You also can't buy anything (other than reservations), so if you want to get a drink or photo package, you have to find a crew member to buy.

Crashed constantly. Cant make onboard phone calls. Does not alert when you get a text. All in all a horribly programmed app. Do not pay for the in app service as it is not worth it since half the functions they advertise dont work. Also does not show full ships itinerary or arrival/depart times, or work at all when off the ship.

You have to turn on airplane mode and then turn on wifi it worked great you could add to your daily calendar and it showed you all the activities and show times that was going on on the ship on a daily bases. Worked great loved it. On Anthem of the Seas. We didn't use the chat option.

The app crashes or disconnects a lot and when it does work it's slow to load info that should be cached in memory. It has been unreliable for important texts. Internet keeps asking to sign into voom even though all I want is to use the Royal IQ app to message and chat. Very unhappy with app and service on Anthem of the Seas!

Very useful on the ships mentioned. (Why would you try to use it on another since it says 'only works on ...'). We paid for the text feature which came in very handy. Only negatives would be, sometimes text service got glitches, and it could use deck plans.

This app was disappointing. It was useful for making reservations, but that's about it. There were no times on the events, few descriptions, no ship map. The overall lack of information was very frustrating.

App crashed frequently. Couldn't receive or make calls onboard the Ovation. IMs didn't come through and notify me unless I was in the app at the time. Drained battery daily and was #1 consumer of the battery. WORST app I have ever used. It's not worth the headaches while on vacation. $8 charge to IM and call during my cruise.....wasted. Both my android and my in-laws iPhone had issues.

App crashes constantly. Phone and chat functions (paid) are a joke. Can only call when both people have app open (assuming it hasn't crashed). No notifications when someone texts or calls; need to manually check constantly. Calendar and account seem to work.

The iPhone version is pretty good, and this app certainly is necessary for a Royal cruise, but the Android version crashes ~20 times a day on my Samsung S8, and the call feature didnt work at all. Also despwrately needs a notifications feature.

There is no "royal-wifi" to connect to, only the wifi that you have to pay for, which makes this app utterly useless unless you are willing to pay for wifi. If you need the services this app provides, then I suggest finding one of the computers on the ship. On the Ovation of the Seas, deck five had multiple right next to the Biomic Bar that you could use. There were also ones by the dining rooms and scattered about the ship. Honestly, the Carnival app working 100 times better which is surprising.

Dav. S. May 31, 2019

Needs work! Don't bother paying for the messaging service through this app. You only receive notifications when the app is kept open. As soon as it's closed, you will have no clue if someone has texted you.

Royal IQ appears to have a subnormal IQ. It shows bookings for on-board events, but it can't update or cancel dining times, so passengers need to maintain their own calendar to stay up to date. We also discovered that it can't show updates for on-board activities that are cancelled or postponed. Passengers cannot add their own events but must choose pre-programmed events in the app menus.

Gay. S. May 25, 2019

Won't stay connected. Crashes when you use phone functionality and messages never trigger notifications. Good for viewing activities on Compass. Avoid paying for phone and messaging service.

Sel. S. Jan 1, 2019

A totally useless app that took way too long to download and disconnects continuously and occasionally connects with your fellow contact passengers. It needs a total overall in the way it connects. A waste of money that was charged by Royal Caribbean

Chr. Y. May 21, 2019

Constantly crashes, often account + calender won't work and slow loading. At least the cruise compass feature works but wish it had descriptions for the event's. Terrible app!

Cha. G. Jun 25, 2019

messaging is horrible (not at all real time), in-app phone crashes app every time (Pixel 3XL), no ship maps or navigation, takes incredibly long to switch pages. almost worthless.

Nic. F. Nov 26, 2018

Extremely buggy. Needs to be restarted every time you open it, cannot reserve activities, no message notifications. Don't buy the messaging package, not worth it.

Rav. M. Jun 22, 2019

When it works, it's ok. I just got off Anthem, and ALL signage pointed to this app which means RCI isn't switching to the new app anytime soon. Charging to message family members is very cheap for a company that spends $200m on a water slide but spends nothing to get a decent app.

Tin. L. Oct 1, 2018

This app is OK. Connection drops out frequently requiring closing and reopening the app. Could be improved by adding reminder notifications.

A. G. u. Jan 2, 2019

dont waste your money have to keep closing app completely otherwise it shows your not connected, takes hours for messages to come through, app has to stay open to receive a call, hard to find things through the app
