Had to refund. The additional monetization after you buy the game is just atrocious.
Love this game story and format. I have had it for years and still play it over and over.
Major lag did first quest and literally inched through dungeon so could not play
Need more exp points and items. Thank you.
Doesn't always work I'll use potion several turns later nothing happens
Old school RPG. I simply enjoyed it
Old school jrpg! A must have!
It would have gotten a higher rating but the game glitched. I got to the part where you have to destroy the dark gates in the silver mine etc. and I went to each of the four levels and destroyed the gates and it says to go back to headquarters. I did so and it won't say anything different but to destroy the gates but they're already all destroyed. If anyone can help please do.
The fast-paced battle system really keeps you on your toes, and the strengths and weaknesses of enemies encourage you to experiment with different skills. You can't play favorites with job classes, each one brings major benefits. Normally, In-App Purchases are unnecessary to beat a game, but in this one you may be hard-pressed to make use of them because most enemies will give you a really hard time from the start (like the Dark Grasshoppers mentioned by previous reviewers), plus most of the equipment in stores, even the weaker ones, are expensive for about the first half of the game. If you hate making IAPs, beware. Also, considering that every party member can master every job (save for gender-specific ones) and learn every skill and ability from them, I didn't really see much use in having more than 4 of them. And the Quests were too redundant, like every town had the same-sounding quests (i.e. "defeat x amount of these monsters; they have been causing problems lately" or "deliver this item to the soldier making his rounds in this dungeon").
It is actually good for an old game, but why you do not make it just free? I had played Machine Knight, Chronus arc and other kemco RPG's that are free and is a lot better than Dark Gate, but provably they are just newer versions. But still thanks kemco for making amazing classic style RPG's , I love it.
Not much to say. Class system is interesting, battles were OK. Only real problem is there wasn't much to the characters or story.
Deeply flawed controls, little explanation of jobs, boring grinding and job points are flawed. $.99 was so too much
Need to allow screen rotation. Cant save due to broken screen.
I love this game!!!
Gold was difficult to achieve at the first half of the game, the last half you ended up with way too much gold and nothing to spend it on! The jobs should have been exclusive to certain characters, not just gender. Level 99 was achieved about two thirds of the way through, and all the jobs were learned before that. I didn't get to enjoy the special jobs! Some of the dungeons towards the end were too long to complete and was a time waster because of the facts mentioned before. Needs more balance!
Four towns with completely identical quests. Status ailments you can do nothing about, since it's easy to get the entire party to fall asleep at the same time. Even while incapacitated the enemies don't do damage, so you get to just sit there. I'm not getting the feeling the story goes anywhere, so it's all just kind of sad.
I really like a lot about this game, but the balance is messed up with the in app purchases. It is possible to play without a purchase, but it is really slow to progress in anything compared to any RPGs I've played. There are also tons of bugs to and against your advantage like running away when your entire party is asleep. The touch controls are a hit and miss. Moving is a breeze but combat renders some abilities a chore to do like confusion.
Then this is for you. I find the menus somewhat quirky (in particular the combat controls) but they are functional and work as advertised. For a modest IAP/DLC purchase one can get powerful items to simplify combat considerably (i like that option). Lots of jobs and skills, there is plenty to do, and one can save the game at any time. i was expecting it to have an unduly "stretched" look on my tablet, but it looks great on a 10" tablet screen.
I love the story, the idea, the quests and battles. I had trouble at first with the complexity of jobs, abilities, skills, etc., -- It was not clear to me how to equip abilities for automatic use in combat, or how to figure out what the best job asssignments were (to assign roles as soldier, supporter, etc.), how to get spells, and so forth. Why so difficult? I don't know. But it wasn't obvious to me how to get things done at first, and I'm still unsure how to do some of the simplest things. BUT it's a great game once you're in a dungeon and battling and getting things done. So I give it 4. Once I figure it all out, it'll probably be a 4.9 game in my view, but if an RPG veteran like myself is having trouble figuring out some of the simple stuff, I wonder how non-rpg folk will like struggling. Buy it, is my recommendation. The IAP issue doesn't bug me that much because I usually just refuse to buy in-app things as a personal point of conduct. I never make IAPs, so I won't, so it isn't a problem for me.
Characters are way too small and bad controls - the character constantly stops moving while my thumb is on the pad.
So far this is just as fun as all of the other rpg's kemco has released. I love the touch movement like in SoE... it makes it possible to just relax and not have to constantly hold my device while I'm playing. I was disappointed to see the addition of in-game-purchases to the kemco line but at least they are not forced on the player in an obnoxious way...I don't think that is any reason to take away a star because the game is still a lot of fun to play. looks great on my Nexus 7
Turns out that Android was pulling a Microsoft by giving a cryptic error that was not even related to the applications package file being invalid or corrupted. Anyways great game but shame on Google. And shame on me for thinking a partially proprietary operating system would actually throw an error that explained what was wrong
It is good, worth the price. The class system is ok (nothing too special, but it suffices), the combat can be tricky in certain fights, and the story is alright, being cool the idea of finding out more by playing multiple times with different party members. TIP: Make use of what the villagers on the houses tell you about classes strategies and how to deal with monsters.
