RTÉ Player

It just gets worse and worse. It is slow, casting rarely works, the smart TV apps don't work either. I really like RTE content, but these days I only see Netflix and channel 4 shows due to RTEs inability to deliver the content they produce. Perhaps they should consider a partnership with YouTube or Netflix. The now TV app doesn't work either. Has anyone ever successfully used RTE player to watch a show?

lags alot, some shows just don't work, terrible interface, good enough for when you have absolutely other option to watch something live but it will not work well

videos lag alot but my device might not be strong enough still watchable and it's great for when you miss something, you can just watch it here also I would say too many ads, I understand that they have to make money but 6 un- skipable seems a bit much

So just want to watch one interview at the end of the late late show and I have to watch 15 adverts before I get to it. Absolutely backwards tech. Sure what do you expect from Ireland IT.

if people are watching it the app crashes. it's great when no one is using it. some really good TV shows.

slow, pauses and the entertainers aren't very entertaining. very biased on subjects around government issues/agendas. rte should spend more money on the spp and less on the entertainers.

I have no TV at the moment so I need to look at TV on my phone and I would recommend it to anyone 🙂 there spot on. just brilliant

Riddled with ads. Greedy RTE already makes enough from the lisence fee and ad revenue . No need to riddle this app with so many ads.

Great getting to view lots of great shows but functionality is all over the place. Can't pick up where you left off. Sometimes jumps to next episode before last one has finished. If you're trying to find where you left off you have to watch the ads 3 time over. It's makes you want to give up and try find episodes elsewhere.

No internet connection error on multiple phones. The app will not run on my phone on my broadband connection or on the phones of neighbours on their broadband. All other apps working on all phones and both good broadband connections. On booting you get an initial RTE page then the error message "No internet connection" and a Retry button to select. Selection of this option does nothing. Can't even check settings or get into anything at all on the app.

Pretty good overall, especially considering it's free. A few things I would like to see fixed: 1) Sometimes I have to watch 4 straight ads when starting an episode, then I skip to where I left off watching last time and have to watch 4 more ads. 2) It seems like it's not possible to save where you left off in a series. Instead you have to remember. 3) Could be easier to find the search box.

This is absolute rubbish. It only plays the ads and when it gets to the point of playing the selected program, it reverts back to browse keyboard, which I cancel, select the watch now button, only to get the same ads played again. There seems to be no way out of this loop. In the case of a live program, the ads get played followed by a video playback error when it gets to playing the live program. Basically the app is a platform for playing ads. I have uninstalled an installed the app to try to correct the problem but no joy.

Chromecast is utterly broken. Can't even get my shows to stream from mirroring my phone anymore. The screen goes black on the tv whilst allowing the video on the phone. Watch a minute and a half of commercials only to find out the video won't play. Nearly everything is 18+ and none of it plays on the TV. Glitchy as hell. I've been waiting so long for this and was so excited to come home and watch RTE. We don't have an antenna so this is our only way to watch it and it's still unwatchable! Back to the drawing board, guys.

If I could give 0 stars, I would. This app is diabolical. It's extremely frustrating watching anything on it as it's constantly freezing. Couldn't watch the All Ireland Final replay on it, while in Portugal. Is there even an international RTE Player app? If you want to make GAA sports more available to masses of viewers around the globe, then please prioritise the app. The current version, as it is, is just a waste of time. Even closing the app is problematic. It's not user friendly.

Has potential. Annoying points - when you close a programme and reopen the app it doesnt take you back to where you left off. Had this issue recently and watched the same reel of almost 3 minute ads three times before I could pick up where I left off. Had potential to be a decent app. Would be nice to have the option of downloading the programme (three player can download shows for 48 hours) I look forward to the improvements. thanks

Very frustrating app. Crashes like clockwork, have to rewatch long ads every time this happens. Does not save your place in a show if you want to finish it another time (or it crashes). Also, in a list of episodes of a particular season, doesn't give any indication of which ones you've already seen. Wouldnt be such a problem if you didnt have to watch really long ads in order to find out you've already watched the episode!

painful is the only way to describe it. Back from hols and tried to catch up on Fair City. 2 minutes of adverts one of which was a black screen with advert sound. Programme started and 8 mins in, it crashed. Had to go back to the start and more adverts before same experience. Never got past 15 mins approx. Have uninstalled and reinstalled. Makes no difference. What I did notice, it never crashed during the adverts. Ironic. Don't waste your time.

In the history of app updates, this is possibly the worst I have ever experienced. Being forced to watch the add before and during the program is tolerable but when the app crashes before and during the program, you are made to watch the ads multiple times. this occurs on every single program, no exception! A 40 minute program easily turns into a 1 hour 10 minutes program at a minimum. It's worth asking the question, are RTE getting compensated per ad play?

Absolutely the WORST App ever! If I could leave review with no stars I would. I had heard it was an improvement on previous version and decided to give it a go. Unbelievably it is worse! I timed it and it took 55 mins to watch a 30 minute programme. What with ad breaks every 5 mins or so and app freezing and having to restart, it is a total joke. Don't waste your time on this one.

Update! 4 hours it has taken to watch the final two episodes of a box set. That's it! Never using this app again - appalling. Frustrating! Constantly crashes particularly in the last segment so you have to wait for all the ads to play for the umpteenth time before you can get to the end of the episode. Has put me off ever watching a box set again.

Frustrating!!! Every time I use this app I end up fuming - it's great that RTE has invested in some top Irish & international programming, but when I use the app to catch up on the latest episodes, I usually end up having to open and close the app several times - just in the hope that it might work next time and not stall before it even starts playing, or stalling halfway through when it goes to play the ads. What are you using are TV licence fees for? Is it too much to ask to have an app that works consistently? One that is easy to search? An app where I can save my favourite shows and not have to save individual episodes? Or when I do a search, where the result doesn't come up in minuscule size in the top left corner, but I have to enlarge it to be able to find the right episode? An app that records which episodes I have already viewed so that I don't have to check again? If you must use advertising to fund your service ( despite receiving a €160 from me for the year for the 10 times annually that I actually watch RTE) please make sure that the ads do not stop the shows from running on the player!
