Rudram

What is ShriRudram ? :-

- It is a Hindu stotra dedicated to Rudra (an epithet of Shiva).
- It is a vedic hymn taken from Taittiriya Samhita (TS 4.5) of YajurVeda.
- It is also known as Sri Rudraprasna, Satarudriya, and Rudradhyaya.
- It (Namakam) describes the name or epithets of Rudra, which represent his aspects.
- It is of two parts, Namakam and Chamakam. Each consist of eleven anuvakas or hymns. Traditionally Rudra is assigned the number 11, and among the 33 deities of the

Vedic pantheon, 11 are considered forms of Rudra.

Significance :-

- As per the Jabala Upanishad, recitation of the Satarudriya (this hymn) will lead to immortality. (this belief was claimed during the first few centuries of CE)
- The anuvakas (Chapters) of Shri-Rudram correspond to the eleven hymns of Taittiriya Samhita (TS 4.5), where, the final anuvaka extended by an additional eight

verses including the ' Mahamrityunjaya ' Mantra.
- The Mahamrityunjaya Mantra
- ' great death-conquering mantra ', also called the Tryambakam Mantra, is a verse of the Rigveda (RV 7.59.12).
- Chanting the Rudram is said to be of great benefit. The Rudram chanting can be done with or without the accompaniment of a Vedic yagna ritual. When accompanied

with the Vedic fire ritual, it is called the Rudra Yagnam.

Who can Recite this hymn ? :-

*
* " camakaṁ namakaṁ caiva pauruṣasūktaṁ tathaiva ca nityaṁ trayaṁ prayuñjāno brahmaloke mahīyate " **Meaning -
- He whoever recites Namakam and Chamakam along with Purusa Sooktam on a daily basis, will be honoured in Brahmaloka.

- To begin with , it is recommended to start learning Rudram from a Guru, since, it is supposedly the traditional way of learning any Vedic Hymns or Stotras.
- Rudram, unlike other Slokas or Mantras, has great significance, when its notations are recited in the appropriate pitch. The notation for marking the syllables for

chanting is generally known as the swara notation, signifying the pitch variation applicable to the vowel in the syllable.

Great job.. Appreciate the Sri Rudram recitation and the software developers. I have a humble request. Is it possible to have the feature like Teacher teaches once and student repeats the same twice. Currently it is repeating once. If it is made as repeat twice, then it will be perfect for the learners. To make the learning perfect better to make like reciting half sentence, next step is full sentences and finally full Anuvaka. This will serve both learners as well as regular recitation.

Great app for learning Rudra. But the auto scrolling text in recital mode is very irritating. While the recital is in the middle of the line, it just moves up. It is cery difficult to follow. Please provide an option to disable it

It was mesmerizing to hear the chant through the App. Clear pronunciation and wonderful rendering. I am unable to install in another device. It would be great if the issue can be fixed.

Perhaps the best app to learn Rudhram among all the options. But I would request the developers to add just one feature to make it complete. Please introduce next button that could make us move to the next adjacent shloka inside an Anuvakam. Otherwise it is very difficult to go the exact shloka we want as it quite voluminous unlike Adhithya hrudhya, which is quite concise

I'll give 5 stars for the amazing work done. As I was going through the reviews, navigating to specific hymn is an issue, looking forward for the update. Learning mode and recital mode is an excellent feature, loved it! Thanks for such a wonderful app.

Cudos to the developers- this app has three USPs - you can Read Rudram in 6 languages of your choice Sanskrit, English and all four South Indian languages - Tamil, Malayalam, Telegu, Kannada while Listening in two modes (Learning/ Chanting) with two speed (Normal/ Slow). The audio is in Vedic traditional style and developed with the intention of teaching beginners in the gurukul parampara. Congrats and it is my favourite app. Request you to develop apps for Gita/ Suktham & important Upanishads
