I definitely love the way the app looks and functions, but that's based entirely on the previews. When I try to open the app, it asks for 4 permissions. Microphone, ability to locate nearby devices, call app, and memory. The 2nd seemed weird so I tried to find out what it's used for, but the info page only lists the 3 other permissions as things the app needs to function, completely ignoring the weird need to locate nearby devices. I'd install if I had some info on that.
I love this app, I use it to record music and it does great whether its acoustic, electric, bass, drums, ect. It even picks up well at live music shows. My only quirk with it is in the list mode I like to hit play without seeing the soundwave because its easier to skip through. But the small round play button makes this hit and miss. It would be nice if the button was squared off so I don't accidentally click into the soundwave playback.
It's baffling how I can't use the function unless I agree to submit access to my photos, files, phone. Basically everything more than the microphone function. Which for obvious reasons was granted 🤣 I'd like to know why only permission to our Mic is not enough. And why access to, for example, photos is needed for a voice recorder? I'll wait.
This app formerly only required permissions to access microphone and files which is all that it should require. A recent update added a requirement for permissions to let the app access nearby devices and phone which should not be necessary for a simple voice recorder. This app actually won't launch unless you give it these very privacy invasive permissions! That's sketchy. 1 star until the devs change the app back so that it opens again without requiring access to nearby devices and phone.
Have installed, uninstalled, and reinstalled the app. It will not record and appears to lock up. I am using a Samsung S22 Ultra. I previously was very happy with this app and used it with no problems on an S10+. ------ Updated the phone software on 19 April 2022 and the Samsung Voice Recorder software is now working properly. Star rating changed from 1 star to 4 stars.
Requires unjustified permissions. The app was updated and now requires control of phone calls and the ability to detect nearby devices. It's a voice recorder... I understand that there might be niche situations where it requires those permissions but not opening the app until they're granted is not warranted. Android allows apps to request permissions on the fly, so not opening the app until it has every permission is also unfair, as it should request the permissions only when necessary.
I've been using this app for around half a year. Sure, the permissions are a bit odd, but it's created by Samsung, so I don't think much about it. The sound quality is phenomenal, and it allows me to pick up great quality audio for whatever I see fit, whether it be an instrument or random thoughts I want to document. Excellent.
It asks for phone permission. I can't use the app if I choose to not allow the permission. Why does it need Phone permission if I just want it to record audio? Looking at the app description, it does mention that the telephone permission (assuming that it meant phone permission) as OPTIONAL, not mandatory. I do like its clean UI.
Love using voice recorder. At least I use to until it required so many permissions. Why do you need Bluetooth access? And it says in the description that phone call access is optional, but I couldn't get into the app until I agreed. Same with "nearby devices". I just wanna record my thoughts.
Absolutely amazing, speech to text is kinda jank. Buggest problem is it doesnt runnin the background very well, sometimes it works other times it isntantly cuts out so if you are trying to record audio while also doing a phone orientated video it crashes over n over again
App not opening if access to nearby devices via bluetooth is not granted. Why? All other permissions were allowed, but I see no reason to access other devices via bluetooth when recoding audio. I will uninstall. It used to be nice - I've recorded church bells in Rome, but now is too nasty!!!!!
Freezes. Great concept with a terrible delivery. It's easy to use and the first few times it worked great but now it's frozen and will not record. Very frustrating.
Why does this need access to anything other than my microphone and possibly my storage in order to work? Denying access to the app altogether because I don't want to give access to nearby devices is just terrible app design. You've effectively created an intrusive and unnecessary barrier for entry and will drive a lot of users to download alternatives. I hope the money wasted on developing this will lead you to take a more considered approach when designing future apps.
Once again Samsung overreaches with unrelated permissions and completely disables an application if you don't allow its invasive and unecessary permissions. Voice Recorder should only need microphone and storage. What is this need for making calls and finding nearby devives with bluetooth b.s. I said it before.... next phone will not be a Samsung!!
I don't know but the app don't work since April month. It doesn't record anything knowing that I dispose of enough memory space in my phone. In fact, it record just a voice without sound. The voice stored has for example 3 minutes recorded but it has just 4 seconds of audio recorded. I have the last version of the application, I had update it correctly. Could you resolve the issue as soon as possible? Thank in advance for your reply.
