Samurai of Hyuga

Its ok. The story idea is pretty straightforward Japanese structure with a warrior of destiny. The characters are fine. They have individual voices which is a bonus for these kinds of stories. EDIT: all books in this game series are completely ruined by the "attunement" stat. What seems like an interesting mechanic, functionally controls what you choose, so not a choose "your own" adventure at all. Disappointing

It has a learning curve. The attunement system is sort of a pain at first because it gives you zero chance to not sound like a robot going down what ever attunement you choose. The story is worth it though. Just wish I didnt have to spend time worrying about attunement. Attunement got in the way with all the books. At least they were consistent with forcing readers down a path. It removes the feel of feeling like you control the story. The story is epic so it makes up for it.

Great but annoying game. Played 1 through 3 replaying so I can do 4. Wish that the books had a save point in between chapters. Attunement is driving me insane. Every choice I make takes away from the story because there is no clear way know what your choice is testing. Is this choice for protection, is it for calculation, you never know. It would be nice to have either save points in between chapters or have the choices have a clear indicator of what skill set they are testing for.

I'm unsure why this game is praised to the heavens. I've enjoyed similar titles in the past, but this game doesn't really let you feel in control. The choices are often unclear, and the main character will often make very defining actions without any input in order to advance the story. The story itself seems...fine, although the author can be quite repetitive and poor with description. For example: your young companion is repeatedly described as doing things 'cutely'.

Wow. In the beginning you are a little confused because you are basically dumped into what quickly becomes the action, almost like a video game.. but immediately you start to get a sense of the story and the plot because it is so well written and easy to get used to. The characters are definitely interesting and no doubt they will co tune to develop in the future (hopefully many) books!

1st of all I just wanted to say, the story is great, different setting then a lot of other CYOAs, I found it really enjoyable. The pacing is a little fast but other than that I was really liking it. Find out about this whole huge quest, get involved, pay $4 to unlock the "rest of the game"- which ends up being maybe 5 incredibly short chapters, if that! Literally took me 15mins. You barely even get to START the quest in the first place. Feels way too short & like a ripoff for the price.

It has a great story and enjoyable characters, but the one major drawback for me is the personality system, there are tests based on your personality that you can pass but getting these traits may as well be random. The only way you can know what increases these traits is if your the creator, it's just so annoying having to restart the game because I interpreted it in a different way then the creator.

If you like smart, elegant writing, memorable characters and simple yet meaningful stats, be sure to give this one a go. I didn't enjoy it the first time I played but as of the second try it grew on me. I must again emphasize on how I love the writing style and characters; I'm one hell of a critic when it comes to text games as games with weaker narrative styles often make my eyes roll, but I enjoyed this Ronin's adventure like I did many literary work.

The best example of an interactive novel that I could ever play. I've played through all the games in this series already yet here I am, back for more haha. I absolutely love the amount of customization available where you not only get to choose your own character's details, but that of your closest friends/love interests. The world and story are extremely compelling and immersive making you truly feel as though you are your character and you're part of this story. I love this game.

Great value for money. Had me on the edge of my seat at every page. Great writing and story that kept me engaged for hours at a time. Lots of content and choices to be made. I like how your charm or stoic stat may come into play randomly, definitely adds to the development of the main character and reflects who you've made them out to be.

For years I've had these stories and I couldn't be happier after getting them all back and with the new addition to the series! I love this story, the characters, the choices, and the challenge. I will get every single one of these and keep them, share them, and of course play and read them! Thank you for the time and effort you put into this story, I will enjoy it always.

A great game overall. Though i can't tell if the Attunement hits at the start of chapters 10, 12 & 14 are automatic or not. I've played the game before and have been able to get perfect attunement but i can't with these hits right now.

I absolutely love this game. Simply the best interactive novel I've played. This one just sucked me right inside and made me feel like I am the living persona of the main character. I fell in love with each of them, and it feels like every choice I make matters, leading to different scenarios. Strongly recommended.

I love this book so far, the characters are interesting and have their funny monents, and keep the story interesting with their troubles and arguments. I like the kind of personality your character can have too, it can make for some really good scenes and reading.

One of the best of the best text-based games ever... Script and dialogue are masterpiece even more in 2,3 and 4! Strongly recommend to play the next chapters. I've finished 4 a month ago. Looking forward to SOH 5 excitedly. Thanks a bunch for a wonderful story!

Just a heads up, this game only lets you play through the first five chapters for free. You need to buy the full version if you want to continue playing/reading. I think its worth paying if you want to support the dev and author. The main premise puts you in the shoes of a ronin, working as hired bodyguards for various clients with their own quirks. If you're into that stuff then you'll like it.

The writing and characters are both good, but calling it an "interactive novel" doesn't feel right. Sure, you do get choices, but they tend to get punished if you pick anything but the "right" choice. The fact that your personality traits are also locked in after you pick your spirit animal is also odd, and the personality choices don't really seem to matter. It's a good game, as long as your okay with having low-impact decisions and don't mind choices that seem to only exist to punish you

The game is outstanding, i couldn't stop playing ,it was like I'm living the life of my character . I just can't express how much I loved the game . Its fun, adventurous, but less action but ok , and the story is amazing. There should be a Anime or an Anime type movie on this story . Just keep up the good work and lots of love man , it was amazing.

The only gripe I have is the words. The use of Japanese words is fine for things like names, or even titles, like sama or chan as those give you an idea of intent without a real English counterpart. The problem I have is the use of common words. I get it's trying to invoke an anime vibe but reading baka, nani, or whatever else just takes me out of it. I'm aware it's fairly minor, but it was something that kept me from appreciating it as a story because it wants to be an anime not it's own story

I'm going to start this review by warning you ahead of time that this novel and its sequals are not for the feint of heart. It is graphic. Turn back now if that bothers you. As someone who has gone through all the available books up until this point, I must say now that this series is absolutely enthralling in all the right ways. This first book is a good start to the series, and it is a very enjoyable read. The general personality of the protagonist is probably my favorite part of this series.

So much love for this series. I've read all 4 so far and cannot wait for book 5. Any idea of when the 5th book might come out? Also, it doesn't seem to be available for the Google play family library and I'd love to share this incredible story with my family. Regardless, that is a small detail and buying this series is worth every penny.

This is hands down the most captivating choice game I've ever played. Ive already finished books 1-3 and Im eagerly awaiting book 4. The characters are deep, the choices have real consequences... I've never been more enthralled.

I absolutely adored the immersion I felt playing through this. The writing is very descriptive and really places you directly in the setting where you genuinely feel like you are the character and have a fully fleshed out personality. Brilliant

i tried to play this game 2 years ago but got turned off by the mc's personality not even 10 minutes into the story and uninstalled it. but this time i was determined to give it a chance because i've heard so many praises about this game and man it's really worth it!

I throughly enjoyed the first 3 books..Well written and overall amazing.. However I can't say the say for the 4th book..Just my opinion, (won't spoil anything) but I'm not a fan of the forced decisions and direction of the story went feels cheated/wrong after the previous books...Hopefully there's a a 5th book that'll allow the story to return to where I should be.

A good and fun story that I recommend though I only have one major issue. How some Japanese words are still used like Baka, Kuso, and Gomenasai. It's like a fan dumb and I am just waiting for someone to scream about how they don't leave their Nakama behind While the Japanese names are ok please keep it English so I dont have to relive those dark days of fan translations

Charming, and immersive story. I will remember this one for a long time. The only gripe I had about this one is that it had a few typos, but nothing that would take me out of the story entirely :)
